Now listen here, folks: if there was ever a project to make you feel like a woodworking mage - I'm talkin' sawdust sorcerer-level stuff - this folding Adirondack chair from SoliWood is it. My wife, who's an interior designer with a borderline addiction to Adirondack furniture, has circled our pool in these chairs so thoroughly that I’m starting to think we’ve achieved a perfect 1:1 ratio - linear inches of Adirondack to pool circumference. So, when this kit popped up, it fit the bill for me just right. Besides, I'd recently feathered my woodworking nest (ahem, shop) with some shiny new "accessories," so I figured it was high time to justify that expense with an easy victory. And easy it was! Seriously - no muss, no fuss. Just a couple of hand tools and about 30 minutes took me from cardboard box to poolside beauty. The backrest came pre-assembled (a blessing for my weekend), leaving me only with minor assembly tasks. Pro Tips: - Skip the temptation to use a power screwdriver - hemlock is lovely wood, but it's soft. - Dial your drill down to around 10–12 inch-pounds of torque and go slow. - Ditch the included wrench (though it was surprisingly decent as included tools go) and reach for a proper socket wrench. Trust me; your fingers will thank you. - Give the instructions a double look before diving in - you don't want to screw things up (literally). But fear not! If you do, this kit is forgiving, and recovery is easy. - Instructions suggest two people for assembly, but honestly, if you’ve got a spacious workbench, you'll be fine solo. If assembling out on the deck, grab a buddy - this chair is generously sized. - The finished product is fantastic. The sea-green color complements our black chairs perfectly, keeping the wife happy and our poolside chic. In short: woodworking pride, justified! This chair arrives in a semi-assembled flatpack which requires a bit of work with a screwdriver to assemble. I would rate this assembly to be among the easiest furniture I have put together; a beginner should have zero problems. The material appears to be yellow pine wood. This wood is very inexpensive, lightweight, and is the same type of lumber that most American houses are built out of. The properties of this wood makes sense to use for this chair because it is meant to be portable. You absolutely want a portable wooden chair to be built from strong, lightweight lumber. The issue with yellow pine is that it can be more prone to splintering than other woods. The majority of this chair's surfaces are sanded smooth, however in between the wooden slats is not as well sanded. If I were to run my hands through the slats, I guarantee I would get multiple splinters from a single stroke. This lack of sanding is a bit unfortunate because if you were to sand it, the lovely plum color would be ruined. But if you can manage to keep you fingers, toes, and other extremities away from areas of the chair where they shouldn't be in the first place, you will find that this chair is quite comfortable to sit in.

The media could not be loaded. Very comfortable chair! The wood was good quality. I love the color. Mine was painted a light yellow. All of the detail was really nice. The edges are grooved so nothing was sharp or splintery anywhere. The only thing I needed was a screwdriver to put it together. Putting it together is explained well in the instructions as far as the images go, but there are a couple of tricks to make it easier to understand what's happening. There are bolt labeled a, b and c. The bolts labeled "b" do not need to be tightened all of the way because these bolts are in the areas where the chair can move to fold up. Make sure to put the washers on where indicated because that will make the chair last longer since water won't usually be able to get into the areas where the screws are. I did a little video of unfolding it to try to show where those bolts are. They include a little tool that you used to hold one end of these bolts and then you can just use a Phillips head screwdriver to hold the other end so that you can adjust it. The chair that I received had everything nicely lined up. I didn't have to struggle to put this together because all of the holes for the various bolts matched up with the pieces of wood they were supposed to go to. It only took me about 20 minutes from start to finish that's even though I am not an experienced furniture assembler. The chair is very comfortable. The wood has been sanded and the edges are grooved and have been smoothed so there are no sharp corners. I really appreciate the little details here and there that give this a nice feel. Oh and I'm not sure what finish or wood exactly was used but it also smelled nice! They recommend a water repellent stain of some sort every year to keep it looking new. My hesitation with Adirondack chairs in the past was about storing them when not in use. Well, this chair is really the ideal way to solve the problem because when you flatten it, it can easily be stored afterwards. Another benefit is then you won't have to worry about keeping it covered outside when you're not using it during fall and winter. It also saves space if you can put it in a storage building or shed. Once I had it put together I carried it outside and it was impressive how much it appeared to really really change the space for the better! The light yellow color complemented my yard and plants really well! Very happy with the finish on it. I can't wait to sit in it with some sort of drink on the armrest staring at my plants as they start to come in! I think the ability to fold the nice routing on the pieces of wood, the curves in the brackets, etc. are what sets this particular chair apart from other Adirondack chairs I have seen. It's what you would expect at this price point.
