I was looking for a large duffel bag to replace one my husband had for many years. His beloved old duffel bag had finally taken its last vacation to the lake and the zipper was just not salvageable. I began my search for the perfect duffel bag for his birthday to replace the unicorn bag we had to send to the big dumpster in the sky. My searching kept resulting in a Goldilocks situation - except it was a constant trend of every “XL duffel” bag was actually more proportional to a midget packing for the gym. After multiple returns for duffel bags clearly measured by a man whose interpretation of “Extra Large” is in the eye of the beholder, I finally found it. The one. The unicorn of modern day duffel bags. The bag that can fit my vacation clothes as well as my my husband’s, and maybe even stash a body if one needs such an item. Kids can use this as a hide and seek spot, forget hiring the movers - just throw it all in the bag! The size and girth were a smidge overwhelming initially and I had to adjust to handing such a large item, particularly when walking down hallways and getting through the door. This is one item that was true to its extra large claims! Not only can I bring all of my hunting gear layers, but I can probably fit my entire elk in there with it. Multifunctional and practical. My one and only critique is that I wish I had a tiny bit of structure on the bottom. All that fabric gets a little floppy and saggy. No one likes saggy bags. ... show more

Good news -- you can in fact fit an entire human body in the XL. Multiple family members took turns crawling entirely inside the bag. Bad news -- the XL is so large, it exceeds United Airlines limits for standard luggage. If we take this on the plane, they are saying they can/will/may charge us an additional $200 as "oversized luggage". So, we will be repacking into a smaller duffle. Wishing I'd reviewed the United Airlines luggage size limits before purchasing this bag. ... show more

    • Light/medium duty bag w a design flaw

Based on the materials, sewing and the construction methods, I wouldn’t use this for checked baggage, but for car travel it’s perfect. I made an insert out of corrugated plastic for the bottom of the bag so that it stays flat during use. I bought a used vgc one, basically new in this case, so it was agreat value & I’m glad to have a single bag that fits all that I need to pack. UPDATE: took away one star for a design flaw. The shoulder straps primary structural support is the thin fabric that divides the end pockets from the main compartment on the inside. When the bag is loaded, the fabric pulls out of the stitching at the top, so you don’t have a separate pocket anymore. Not a deal killer for me but definitely irritating. All they had to do was attach the strap mounts to the outside of the pockets or just have some kind of webbing between them and the bottom of the bag on the inside. ... show more

    • Bag seems good but the rain cover failed at first time use.

Took about 400 mile ride, and we got caught in some rain so I stopped to put the rain cover over the bag and when I went to sinch the straps they came off the cover easily like they were barely sewn on. Ended up stapping the cover down with bungy cords.

Overall the duffle bag seems pretty sturdy, but after only one use (and by that I mean filling it with clothes, checking the bag on an airplane, then unpacking when I got to where I was staying) the inside lining that separates the outer pouch on one end had frayed and ripped completely open.     • Opening is as wide as the bag

I needed a bag that could hold many items including an actual 36” 2x4. It slid in without any issues. The opening is actually 36”. No need to stretch or pull to fit the beam in. I wish the bottom had some kind of support. But overall great bag.
