Sturdy, and makes shredding a breeze

I dread shredding cheese, and usually buy pre-shredded to save time and wrist/hand pain, as I have carpal tunnel in both hands/wrists. But then I kept seeing this same giant block of cheese on sale at my local grocery store, and couldn't pass it up anymore. I bought the block of cheese, but needed to solve my problem of shredding it. I was afraid it would end up staring back at me in the fridge every time I opened it up, and eventually go bad. I was looking for something similar to what they use at Olive Garden to shred the fresh cheese on your food, and then..... I found this amazing product! What I like about this product: It's nice and sturdy! The parts are all plastic, but they don't feel like they're going to shatter if I look at them the wrong way. The unit snaps together very cleanly with little effort, and comes apart just as easy to toss in the dishwasher for cleaning. I LOVE the suction feature on the bottom of the unit, which keeps the whole thing in place while you're rotating the arm and shredding the cheese. I shredded the giant 6lb block of cheese in around 10 minutes. The hand crank is very easy to rotate and drastically reduces the time it takes to shred your favorite blocks of cheese. What I don't like about this product: The suction cup doesn't always stick. You have to make sure that the bottom of the unit is completely clear of any particles, because any surface difference between the bottom of the shredder and your countertop will break that seal and cause it to come loose. Also, you will need to shred slower than you'd like if you don't want the barrel to get clogged with cheese. If you rotate it at a slower pace, you can still clear it out manually fairly easy, but also the cheese tends to roll out much more often when you go slower. If you rotate it too fast, the cheese goes into the barrel too fast, and gets stuck. That's when you have to take it apart and clear the clog before you can reassemble the unit and keep shredding. Overall I recommend this over any standard flat or box cheese grater, especially if you have wrist or hand strength issues. Score: 4.5/5 ... show more

Better than expected

I was pleased with the sturdiness of this shredder. The handle was very easy to turn and works quickly. It easy to assemble and hold its suction to the counter. There are three blades to choose from and the all work great. Bonus was a brush to clean the grater! There is also a peeler, I have not tried that yet. Pretty cool to shred cheese instead of metal grater

Finally bought one. The suction really WORKS! But the cheese gets outside the grater and sticks there so you have to take a knife and scrap it off. Otherwise the grating work good and is so much easier. I do like it.

Easy to assemble and use

Grates very well, the attachments are an ease to use and cleaning is very easy. I like most how the drum holder attaches from the base for easy clean up as well. The base is pretty study on the countertop.
