I recently purchased a second SUP so my spouse can go out on the water with me, and I got this anchor to keep the SUP from drifting when we stop to take a break. Part of the fun of getting out on the lake is being able to stop to relax and enjoy the sounds of nature, as well as a multitude of other things such as tanning, meditating, yoga, etc. Anyway, I digress. In order to stay in place, it is necessary to drop an anchor unless the water is perfectly still, which is rarely the case. The 40 foot rope has been long enough for the anchor to reach the bottom of all the lakes I've used it in. Some locations are shallow, but others have been up to 30 feet deep; this anchor has kept me from drifting each time I have use it. The carabiner clips onto a D-ring on the SUP. The anchor is similar to many other anchors out there, including the anchor for my other SUP. The four flukes fold up and are held in place for storage by a twist lock collar. The anchor, rope and float fit neatly in the compact storage bag that is included. There are a couple of things that seem odd about this particular anchor. The main thing is that the rope is attached at the bottom of the anchor instead of at the top; it is tethered to the top as well with a wire tie. With my other anchor, the rope is knotted at the top only. This configuration takes more coordination when folding up the flukes and fitting the twist lock collar around them. Maybe they figure the knot is less likely to come undone this way. Also, the knot ends up in the mud and needs to be rinsed out when the anchor is retrieved. The carabiner also seems a little odd with its threads. I think it's to allow the carabiner to be locked to the ring, but I don't have any concern about it coming off while in use without being locked.

I have been using this folding grapnel anchor kit on my small watercraft, and it has turned out to be a very practical setup. The anchor feels sturdy for its size, and the folding design makes it easy to store without taking up much space. It fits neatly in my storage compartment, and the included bag keeps everything organized when I am not using it. On the water, the anchor holds well in sand and mud, which is exactly what I need when I want to stop and fish or take a break. The four flukes grab the bottom reliably, and the locking collar keeps everything in place until I am ready to fold it back up. Overall, this is a compact and dependable anchor kit that works well for calm lakes, slow rivers, and general recreational use.
