  • Did Not Protect My Surface Duo 2 But Not A Total Failure
I purchased two of these very expensive cases for my wife and I because it was an Otterbox and despite the negative reviews. Our experience has not been good as in the past with other devices. The plastic film screen covers are the wrong materials for this device. The film begins to curl over time and collects dust & dirt randomly. The film also begins to separate from the frame. The screen protector also hinders touch function and requires greater pressure and in my wife's case blocks her ability to use the phone. After a few months the film came off completely on one of the ínside panels and ultimately needed to be removed from both inside panels. The front panel also separated and I ended up cutting it in half in order to have some sort of protection on my phone and completely removed them from my wife's phone. The good news is that at least I did have a traditional stick on cover on the outer panels front and back since this cover has no real rear protection other than for the camera bump. But even that is not much. As disappointing as the film is the inside is not that necessary except in phone mode. By far for me, the most disappointing part is the hinge protector. Not only did it wear out and fall off on the top of my wife's phone, but it also broke off on the bottom. My phone fell off of a table and bounced on the floor hitting the plastic corner of the top hinge and chipped the glass in the corner. Within a few days there was a web crack spreading across the front of the device. That was a painful experience that lives on to this very day! I understand the difficulty of developing a good cover for this device design but for the price the quality of the materials should have been better. Otterbox has the right idea with the rigid framing but everything else fails from there. I would recommend using multiple forms of protection with this prescious device. Both the traditional glass or vinal cover along with something that provides bumper and hinge corner protection and has a solid fit. Microsoft's bumpers are a great idea that works. It just didn't cover enough of the edges around the entire device. If Otterbox and others had of incorporated this idea into their design along with using the 3M tape to hold the bumper edges in place willing with a better hinge joint design to better protect the glass at the hinge corners this cover would be a win for this device. Even at this higher price point. Just adding the 3M tape to this current design to hold it tight to prevent wobbling due to the very loose fit improves the limited level of protection the current design offers. It also improves the overall feel of the cover fit while using the device. My primary point is that this Otterbox device did not protect my device as Otterbox as a company promotes among it's product line and based on what we as long term customers have come to expect. Phones will eventually be replaced despite how expensive they've become. But Otterbox has broken trust here and that's a hard thing to repair. The Surface Duo is an amazing device that I plan to stick with for a long time. My challenge is coming up with a solution that will protect my long term investment. ... show more

  • Not terrible but too expensive!
This case is definitely not worth the asking price. At the very most it should be somewhere around $40. I was very hesitant to purchase this case because of the terrible reviews, but I went ahead and did it anyway because there really is no other alternative out there except buying the criminally expensive Microsoft bumpers, and/or buying screen protectors that are just going to be a mess to put on. The case itself went on easily, the bumpers feel really good and seem like they provide some sort of protection, but the screen protector plastic is not the greatest. It doesn't really hinder your typing or the touch sensitivity, but when you fold the Duo back to use one screen, the plastic part of the protector that you slide the device in gets caught on your hand when you type, so you constantly lift up the plastic screen from time to time. However, it's the only case out there that provides full protection from front back and both screens, so that's nice. I've used OtterBox in the past on other devices and they've always been great. I'm not worried that this won't hold up, and yes, I do agree that some of the components do feel a little cheap, not 99 cent store cheap but not the quality I would expect from a company like OtterBox. Overall if you just bought the Surface Duo and you're in search of some sort of protection, don't buy the $40 overpriced bumpers Microsoft is trying to sell you. I know the price for this is kind of unfair, but for right now choices are slim and this may be your best alternative for full protection on a really expensive device. ... show more

  • Feels quite flimsy, but it's better than nothing!
I would really love to give this a much higher rating but the protection feels weak and flimsy as soon as I pulled it out of the box. When installed (which is a tad bit complicated at first glance it turned out quite well. Feels sturdier with the device inside but I personally believe the hinge will break in a single drop IMO. But overall it is a $1K+ device and it's worth spending to protect it by any means necessary. Especially since I I really my new SD2 and would not want it to get damaged like my previous SD1. The price is really high for the (IMO) flimsy, cheap feel and quality of the item but I do trust that it'll stop serious damage if it took 1 bad fall. Anything to protect this beautiful device. Maybe make a sturdier one for the same price and I would buy the newer riveter team Otterbox! Perhaps also just plain old avoid the cheap film screen protector because it just doesn't really work out in this case. The job I want from is shock absorption please! I will gladly get separate protection for the screens. Think tough case! Even $100 if it meant it was much sturdier. ... show more

  • Great concept, works well on paper, flimsy plastic screen saver and back plane covering is an insult
Bought this thing based on the product name, the 360 features and screen saver, paid a hefty price for it. Boy was I disappointed when it got here, first thing is the flimsy plastic screen protector has a bead of glue like butyl similar to windshield seal. The plastic helps to add structure and strength to the frame, as it is assembled it is fairly stout, will not spread and slide off BUT the plastic gives away and you cannot keep it on, I guess they do what they must but I believe it should be a 10 dollar item IF that? The plastic pulled off at both corners maybe from putting it in my pocket but that where I put it! The plastic also sits on the face of the screen loosely, you can get dirt between it and the screen and hear it scrape, its all around a tough thing to put on an expensive phone, very disappointed but if I were looking for short term protection I guess it would be fine but it needs a saver more than the phone, make up your own mind but not at this price oh my golly! ... show more
