    • Otterbox just doesn't work on iPhone 8 Plus unless you replace plastic screen protector
Review updated on 5/23/2018 - original review follows: I am updating my review after having removed the OtterBox plastic screen cover.The OtterBox just did not work on the 8 Plus. The plastic was not flush with the screen and I found myself punching keys repeatedly in order for the key to respond. I went to the Apple store and had them install a glass protector. I removed the plastic protector which was part of the OtterBox. It now works perfectly. My husband had the same problem with his iPhone 8 and I replaced his also. Original review: This is my fifth otterbox - all were top notch - except this one. This is for my iPhone 8 Plus. The screen protector is too far away from the screen to be effective. I find myself repeatedly punching the screen in order for my touch to register. Perhaps my fingers are just not strong enough. I went to the Apple store and had them put a glass screen protector on the screen. I put the otterbox on, over the screen protector. A very tight fit - it took a while to get it to fit. It is a bit better. I may have to remove the otterbox plastic cover for it to be truly effective. Dear otterbox, these plastic screen are not effective on larger screens. Please work harder to make them fit better or use a better material. I have been an ardent supporter for many years since I bought my iPad 2. At one point I broke the hard plastic on my first otterbox and you replaced it. I wrote glowing reviews about your product and your service. ... show more

I have always loved Otter Box phone cases. They do have a built in clear screen which I use a razor and remove. Itโ€™s hard to text and use the phone with their built in screen protector and your own protectors on. If you donโ€™t have a screen protector on your phone than the built in protector in the otter box will work perfectly. jrb ... show more

The best overall phone protector IMO. Has a plastic endo-skeleton that bolsters the phone rigidity, and then the rubber part is carefully constructed to give the corners, edges, and back of the phone extra shock protection. The front has a thin plastic cover for the screen protector. Huge difference when setting the phone down in the car on something smooth and not having it slide around. The one modification I did was cut the little flip tab that covers the charging port. Understood this leaves the port open to water damage, but the last otterbox I had I kept the tab on, and the tab would press into whatever cable I was using to charge the phone. Over time (3 years) I noticed that I would have contact failures when trying to charge the phone. I think it might've had something to do with having the cables being pressed down and possibly causing the internals of the charging port to bend. Price for this one was good too ($40). It is exactly as advertised. Appears to provide more than needed protection. I find the screen responsive even through the plastic screen protector so I'm not sure why people are complaining about that. I also think it looks good as I couldn't even tell it was there by looking until later scratching the plastic. The only space I see is between the protector and the home button. The case was extremely easy to put on. It is big. No question. But I was able to slip it into my suit pant pocket and I don't wear my pants baggy so I think that people are kind of overstating things when they say you can't put it into a pocket. Now skinny jeans, or even tight jeans or pants, sure. I also was able to fit a 3rd party amazon branded charging cable through the hole in the case just fine. At $31.10 I think this case is well worth the price. Only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is that I agree with some of the other reviewers on things that can be improved upon in the future in terms of design. Chief among those complaints is ditching the cover that blocks the charging port. Simply not needed and annoying. ... show more

I have had this case for only a day so I'll try to make an update to this review at a later date. As of now, I really like this case. You can't really go wrong with an Otterbox. The only 2 cons I see at this moment are the plastic screen protector and the plastic inner part. If you have a tempered glass screen on your phone, be prepared to take it off. There's also some kind of air gap between the plastic screen and your phones screen. This makes you have to press harder on your buttons (if your touch actually makes contact). To fix this problem, I actually just kept my tempered screen protector on and removed the whole plastic screen that was originally on the case and now it's so much better. If you do this, be ready to get some glue gone. ๐Ÿ˜‚ The plastic inner part that snaps together is pretty flimsy and thin. I'm scared of breaking it even though the rubber outside is covering it. First otterbox. I usually go with soft cases. Heard good things & wanted the new phone to be safe. Sold & fulfilled by amazon. Cheaper than the store version. It was easy to take apart & put together. There is a thin screen cover. The plastic over the home button is even thinner. There is a bit of a gap between screen & protector, but works fine. Front and back speaker are open. The front piece is flimsy but assembled the rest feels sturdy. Buttons are a bit harder to push. Bottom speakers are open. The silent control and lithning ports are covered by tabs but are easy to open and align properly. I like that the belt clip doubles as an easel. Haven't dropped it yet so don't know how well it works. 8-25-17 I've dropped it a few times and it's okay, not even a scratch or chip. With the heat and taking it off a few times, the soft shell isn't tight and doesn't cling on the bottom. Still seemed to protect fine. ... show more
