Oshlun SBNF-120120 12-Inch 120 Tooth TCG Saw Blade with 1-Inch Arbor for Aluminum and Non Ferrous Metals From the Manufacturer The Oshlun SBNF-120120 12-Inch 120 Tooth TCG Saw Blade with 1-Inch Arbor (for Aluminum and Non Ferrous Metals) was designed with precision ground micro grain tungsten carbide tips and a triple chip tooth configuration. The specially formulated carbide lasts longer and leaves clean, burr free cuts in all types of non ferrous metals such as aluminum, copper, brass, bronze and even some plastics. The 10-inch and larger also feature copper plugged expansion slots for reduced noise and vibration while the 7-1/4-inch features heat vents for cooler operation. WARNING: Never attempt to cut ferrous metals with these blades. It is recommended that you use a coolant when cutting non ferrous metals. Proper clamping devices should be employed.

Look closely at the shape of the teeth on this used Oshlun 80 tooth blade. An aluminum blade is for sale on eBay for over 1/2 the cost, but its teeth are cut wrong. Oshlun cuts their teeth properly. Look closely and notice that every other tooth is beveled in on both sides. Also notice that every other tooth is straight. I call it the flat/pointed shovel. Aluminum likes to melt and stick to the pointy edges of the teeth. Once sticking begins, it gets worse. Cleaning stuck aluminum from each tooth between every cut greatly elongates blade life. Oshlun recognized the problem and removed the pointy edges from the teeth as much as possible. The flat shovel/pointed shovel tooth cut used by Oshlun goes a long long way toward preventing sticking. The left/right leaning flat shovel teeth shape used by many competitors promotes the dreaded sticking. I apply straight 30 weight oil to the stock before cutting. Oil helps keep shavings from sticking to the teeth. Normal straight weight is much cheaper than supposedly better lubricants and sprays that are much to thin to leave a residue on the material after being blown by air movement caused by the blade. I am afraid when I cut aluminum on a chop saw. A fully raised blade on a table saw will not lift the material. The thinner the aluminum, the less likely it will generate the shaving size and/or the heat required to cause the aluminum to stick to the teeth where all problems begin. A perpendicular blade minimizes material thickness as seen by the blade. Cutting a hard item, like aluminum and especially metal, should have a lower RPM. The decrease in blade speed decreases generated heat. Torque is far better than speed when cutting aluminum. I purchased a low RPM cutter in the form of a circular saw. But nothing cuts straight like a table saw with a sliding table, so I usually cut aluminum on it. Due to attack angle, be afraid to cut aluminum on your chop saw. A spacer between the chop saw fence and the material can help a lot. Always inspect teeth and remove all stuck material. It is time to get a new blade when sticking becomes a problem. Thank You. Been using this specific blade for many years to cut aluminum. They've never failed me until recently. I bought 2 this time. One to use and one as a spare. One of them vibrates and appears to have a poorly cut arbor that is likely off center. Fortunately that was the first one I opened and I had another one. Otherwise the spare blade could have been sitting around for a year. Quality control was not so good this time and now I am looking for alternatives. I don't normally buy them 2 at a time. My project was to cut a 4-foot by 10-foot sheet of 1/16th-inch aluminum into pieces 4x4 and 6x6 inches. I bought the 10-inch for my table saw and the 12-inch for my miter chop saw. 12-inch: On the chop saw, the cuts were quite good, with some cut marks that I could easily remove with 120- and 180-grit sandpaper. A kiss with a file removed any edge burrs. This cut is the top one in the photo. 10-inch: On the table saw the results were less than acceptable. This cut is the bottom one in the photo. You can see how the blade ripped and damaged the edges and causes a lot more cut marks. I tried the blade at different heights and different speeds to no avail. I decided to slightly over-cut the rips on the table saw and then make the finish cuts on the miter saw. Lots of extra work! I might buy the 12-inch again, but for the table saw, I'll go with another brand. ... show more

Have done a lot of wood working projects over the years. Have done carpentry on houses. Have done fiberglass work for boats. This was my first foray into Aluminum/Metal cutting. Purchased a 16' X 16' Mechanical Pergola kit for my home and needed to trim the beams, louvers, posts for the install. Purchased a 12" Compound Miter saw from Northern tool and upgraded the blade to this 120tooth metal cutting blade and OMG it was good! Cut 1000lbs of aluminum and it was cutting just as good on the last cut as the first cut. Well worth the money for the quality of the cutting. Beware though cutting metal is nothing like cutting wood! Clamp everything and be sure to keep the items you R cutting firm otherwise you'll get into trouble. I quickly learned as several items kicked and I broke a 2 teeth from this blade but for the rest of the project it kept cutting like they were not even missing. ... show more

I found this blade to be superior in making cuts to AL T-Track for my mobile woodworking table upgrade. Straight cross cuts or 45ยบ angle cuts for intersections, they were all clean and sharp with minimal burrs. This is my 4th Oshlun blade product, which includes their 8" Dado Set, and everyone has performed exceptional. (I will add a picture later today if possible.) ... show more

An absolutely great saw blade for cutting aluminum. Definitely spend the extra money and get some lube for the saw blade I know it sounds weird but it will keep the aluminum from gumming up in between the teeth and make each cut really easy. Without it you'll be cleaning out your saw blade with a screwdriver and the cuts will not be clean and smooth. So do yourself a favor and get the lube for the saw blade when you purchase. It will also extend the life of your blade dramatically. ... show more
