My expectations for this candle were as low as the price, but I figured why not see what I get. I was pleasantly surprised to discover that it looked and worked great! The remote works well up to about 10 feet, so perfect for placement in hard to reach areas. The candle looks good, and even feels like wax. I have mine in a stained glass lantern and the remote keeps me from having to open and close the door each time I want to turn it on and off. I was pleasantly surprised by this candle set. The pillars are slightly narrow, but that’s exactly what I wanted. They have a waxy coating, giving them a real candle look and feel. The varying heights allow you to create a beautiful display. It comes with two remotes, which was a great surprise, and also extra battery compartment covers. I have been using mine on the 4hr. timer for about a week now and they are still bright and strong. If you are using the entire set, it takes 18 batteries, so battery life will be important. You can set the candles to “light” which gives you a steady warm glow or to “candle” which is meant to create a flickering natural candle look. Unfortunately the flickering effect doesn’t give the look of a real candle flame. It is more flashing than flickering, quick bright to low action rather than a slow, smooth flickering. When they are all turned on to “candle” mode they tend to “flicker” at the same time, or very close, creating an artificial feel. I left mine on light and I like it much better. I think flickering would be best with one or two candles together, but with all 9 it’s too much and too fake looking. Overall I think these are a very good set and reasonably priced. ... show more

The wax exterior is nice, very realistic. All candles worked, but the "flame" isn't very bright even at max. The flickering effect is okay. 2 remotes supplied. Both remotes turned candles on & off, changed brightness, changed effect from flicker to steady light - as long as you hold it within a foot or so of the candles. The 6 hour timer didn't work on either remote for any of the candles. Too bad, as that's what I'd use for preference. Contacted seller, who responded asking if I'd tried both remotes. I wrote back, saying yes, I had, with the same result, and did they have any other suggestions? Never heard from seller again. Battery life is mostly as stated (~300 hours), but 2 of the candles seem to use up the battery in about 1/2 that time. For the price these are okay. Not fabulous, but they are pretty and safe to leave unattended, unlike a real candle. ... show more
