Good, but does not fit Augason Farms 55 Gallon without Barrel Modification. THREADS are just fine - but pump threads are not long enough to clear the protective ridge around the Augason Farms Bung. Solution: I used wiring cutters to trim down the protective Augason Farms Bung ridge.

Unexpectedly impressive smooth, nearly laminar flow of fluid as you pump if the fluid is thin enough. Relatively easy to pump even really thick concentrated detergent that's quite cold. I hopefully can clean it out after this first use as I want to eventually transition it to transfer just gray or utility water. I initially got this accidentally as the product title says "Fits 5 to 55 Gallon Drums & Barrels" but after receipt and looking it over I see that it's actually 15 gal to 55gal. I don't have the 55 gal drum I want to use it on yet, so I can't verify thread fit to those containers, but just testing it on fluid in a 5 gal bucket it worked swimmingly well. It feels quite well made and despite being plastic, it's a good Polypropylene material that feels like it could be fiber reinforced. It's one of those unexpectedly solid feeling plastic tools as it's sufficiently thick and well reinforced in the right areas. All the parts fit together quite well and snugly and the inclusion of Teflon tape increases my confidence in it remaining leak free in the long term. The castle-like end of the bottom of the feed tube is a great touch that helps stand it off the bottom of the container and will prevent vacuum sealing the feed tube against the bottom and cutting off or slowing down the flow. I think it's a relatively solid quality product and based on the adjustment variability I would say it's a good value for the price. I'm a fan of the Orion Motor Tech products and own a whole bunch of stuff from them. Glad to have this in the tool arsenal.

The media could not be loaded. Living on a slow moving river has its occasional benefits. I sometimes score free plastic 55 gallon drums floating down the river that were usually previously used as floats for docks. Upon being thoroughly cleaned, I then use them for collecting rain water and other projects. This drum pump is a great addition to use on one of the barrels for pumping rain water when I don't want to drill any holes or cut the top off to access the collected water. My initial impression was that this pump is made almost entirely out of plastic except for the piston and a few bolts that hold the handle on, so I am not sure about longevity from frequent use in the summer. However, this is made from polypropylene, which is supposedly a durable plastic that stands up to wear and tear and is strong yet flexible. It does NOT however, stand up well to UV exposure from the sun, which can make it fade and become brittle. So I intend to cover it with a bag of some sort to block out the sun when not in use. Another thing to note about this is the fit. I saw a previous reviewer say that it doesn't fit their barrel they intend to take camping for water. There are two bungs, and each bung is a different size with different threads. One has coarse threads, which this pump does not fit. The other bung has fine threads, which this pump fits. The pump was easy to assemble following the pictures in the instructions and it threaded onto my test barrel easily and was easy to line up how I wanted it. I was pleasantly surprised how easily it suctioned and pumped out water in just a few pumps of the handle! It works great! The siphon tube is long and reaches all the way to the bottom, but also telescopes and is adjustable to different sizes and heights of barrels 55 gallons and smaller. The strainer isn't much of one and has large holes, so if you don't want the pump sucking up large particles in your rain water, put a finer mesh strainer on, preferably where the water comes into the barrel from the gutter to eliminate buildup. I deducted one star because of this being all plastic and the $35+/- price for this pump, so I hope it lasts many years to pay for itself. Be gentle with the handle when using and keep the pump out of the sun. Remove the pump before winter to prevent cracking from freezing.
