We received our first bag of the "new recipe" Kentucky made and it made out cats very ill! Vomiting, Diarrhea and just very listless. One of our cats has CKD and she had to go to the emergency vet. The vets were puzzled so she (our cat) went to the vet school and we spoke with several veterinary nutritionists and this food was determined to be the cause. We bought this brand 3 times, trying to get our 3 cats on a better diet. One of our cats health declined slowly over the 3 bags. We never put 2 and 2 together. Long story short, after ER visit, peeing blood, many regular vet visits, peeing all over our stuff, not being able to poop for a week, many-many tests, stress for everyone in our house, we figured out it was the food. As soon as his vet changed him to Royal Canin, within days our boy started getting better. I didn’t want to believe a food with such good reviews and 70.00 a big bag would be bad for some cats. We threw out about 50.00 worth of what we had left. Be careful, read all reviews, maybe don’t buy your pets food from unknown sources and remember cats are very sensitive and any little change can be life or death. ... show more

My cat ate this food for over a year just fine. They recently moved production to Kentucky. When we switched her to the new bag of food, she started getting struvite crystals. If you're a continuous user and want to buy a new bag, don't go for the 12lb right away; make sure your cat is OK with the new product by testing a smaller, cheaper size first. ... show more

I didn't realize they changed the location this was being made at. My Savannah cat is throwing up constantly now and his coat is drying out. Do not buy this food unless it's the original one made in Canada.

My cat has been eating the 5 star Canadian Orijen formula for 2 years. She loves it and I have nothing to say but great things about the Orijen product made in Canada. My local distributor told me that ALL U.S. retailers are now required to purchase the NEW formula made in Louisville, Kentucky I bought one 4 Lb. bag of the new Kentucky stuff. My cat began vomiting the new stuff and her stools were something different. Her coat became dull and dry. I mentioned this to the retailer and he gave me a talk about how great the new Kentucky plant was. I was able to obtain more of the Canadian product and within a week the cat was back to her old self. No more vomiting, same old stools and her coat is like shiny velvet again. When she's happy, I'm happy. I compared the ingredients on the bags and you can see where the difference is. I'd give the new food minus one star if I could. I will NEVER buy the U.S. formula again and I'm not the only one. You'll see more bad reviews for the new stuff if you look around a little. ... show more

I have fed my cat this food for over a year, and I too am upset over the "people in the United States have to buy Orijen in the U.S. now" thing. I have seen a marked change in my cat, his coat used to be so shiny and he had tons of energy. But after feeding him a bag of food this last time, after I saw his coat go dull, the fact that he vomited at couple times after eating, and less energy. THAT is when I checked the bag and it said, "Made in the USA in our Kentucky kitchens!" What? No anouncement to tell us that they switched, we had to find out for OURSELVES. And we DID check the bag after our pets started having problems they did not have before eating this U.S. made Orijen. I emailed the company and was told that people in the United States HAVE to buy from the U.S. facility. NOT ME, I will ask sellers if the food is from Canada or not. If yes, I will buy it (I don't care about a higher price) then and if not, I won't. My cat's health is more important than a rule (How can they enforce that??) that I can't buy from Canada anymore. . If you tell me I can't do something, you best believe that I will find a way around it. ... show more
