Unit died in a year and took my drive's MBR with it. Wrote one email to them - no response. Just wrote a second email to them. Their website hotline phone number is area code 400. I think that is somewhere near the Antares Nebula (at least that is what it sounded like when I called it). Buy this unit and it may work for a week, maybe a month, possibly a year then answer this... Riddle: What good is a warranty if no one communicates with you to honor it?     • Killed both HDDs
This product seemed great for the first 30 days or so, but somehow when I had two 4TB HDDs connected to it, it killed both of them. The data wasn't critical, but it did contain my Plex library of TV shows and movies that I've accumulated over the years. One drive was completely corrupted, and the other was unmountable. After unsuccessfully trying all the recovery tools I've used in the past (Disk Management, various Windows/MS-DOS programs, SpinRite, Linux Gparted, SeaGate recovery suite, TestDisk) I finally had to purchase a commercial solution at $79.99 (R-Studio) to recover the files. The HDDs were so damaged that it couldn't recover the filenames nor the folder directories, so I'm still out a ton of time to figure out how to fix thousands of files.     • Absolutely the worst product I have ever used
I'm a computer technician and purchased this product to use when called to service clients. It's a standalone device so, in theory, it would be very useful when I'm out in the field. However, this was not the case. The device did not function as advertised. The status lights on the device never gave any indication of drive activity. The status lights would never stop blinking and thus I never knew if the system had finished the cloning process. The device would buzz indicating that it had finished the cloning however the lights would keep blinking indicating activity. I left a 1TB drive cloning overnight and the device corrupted both drives, the source, and target drives were corrupted. The device never shut down as advertise and never gave any indication that the cloning was complete. I never like writing about products but this was horrible and embarrassing. ... show more

Power shortage..........sad.. I was really hoping this would work.. but well , just wasn't to be. I have asked for a refund and Amazon gave me a return sticker so well.. back to the drawing board.. ......UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE. Since review ,company contacted me ,initiated a refund for full amount and shipping and sent me a sticker for sending unit back. They wrote to me almost everyday asking me what the issue was and helped me work out to see if the unit was defective or I was doing something wrong. The unit was defective with a off and on power shortage of where the plug was inserted into the base. It would work sometime and not sometime. The company is very on top of making sure their customers are happy and satisfied . They not only gave me a full refund and took the old unit back free of charge they also gave me a brand new unit at no cost to me which I got today and it works like a dream. I am so happy and feel very good about their caring about the image of their products. They were very kind and communicated very well with me and made sure I was happy. I needed this unit very badly and and grateful to have such a wonderful product that works. I would highly recommend them for your shopping needs and I will definitely buy again... ... show more

I purchased this a couple years ago (2017, specifically) and used it infrequently in the intervening years, typically only hooking it up when I needed to read a drive pulled from another system on my main PC without opening the case, hooking up power and SATA, etc.. I recently needed to use it again only to find that, while Windows detected a drive mount location, no drive appeared to be mounted. I thought it might be an issue with the drive itself so I tried three other known-good drives (one 3.5 and one 2.5 HDD and one 2.5 SSD) and the same issue happened with each one. I also tried a different USB cable and, though I didn't have an alternative compatible power supply available I did test the output voltage and it's putting out the expected 12v. Clearly some component (or multiple components) on the interface board itself have failed even though it's been sitting in an unpowered state on my desk for almost a year. I ended up purchasing a different USB to SATA adapter which has worked fine so far (and was cheaper than this was originally as well). Save yourself a headache and some money and buy a different product. ... show more

    • Any plan expecting high performance from SDD device might need to be adjusted
The ORICO 4 Bay External Hard Drive Docking Station is the best thing since sliced bread. It permits USB 3.0 fast access to 4 physical devices from my PC. A small problem may happen when participating hard drives are partitioned. Window 10 can get confused during mounting and users get confused when using. A very well defined naming convention helps to reduce this confusion. The duplicator/cloning feature is a bonus. I have not tested the cloning feature. I have tested many magnetic disk (HDD) drives but only one SSD drive. The testing of the mounted SSD device was both surprising and disappointing. I found that the read/write performance characteristics were no better than an HDD device. Repeated testing and formatting changed nothing and I became concerned about the new SDD device. However, after the SDD disk was installed into the intended PC target, the performance characteristics were better than expected. Windows 10 reported more than double the values experienced in ORICO dock. I do not have another SDD to continue testing the ORICO Docking Station but my intention of use for this device may need to be altered. The advertised 5 Gbps Transfer Speeds may be physically divided into the 4 bays leaving little more than 1 Gbps per bay. I like what I have purchased and I think it has much value. I cannot explain the limitations demonstrated by the SDD disk. ... show more
