So when I initially opened the package, I found that the grater or "mincer" was actually a separate piece that moved. From a cleaning standpoint, I understood the reasoning and can appreciate it, but I feel like it could be a weak point for possible damage later... The handles were slightly off center, and so this could be another possible weak point for the future. After using it to process 1.5 pods of garlic, I found that the product was not deformed in any way. I was previously using a cheap $8 press, and it broke within the processing of a single pod. It was plastic with a metal grate, and the metal grate was mushed through the plastic... That became a huge pain and I immediately decided to buy a completely metal unit. The performance of this product was exceptional. It took much less force than my previous press, most likely due to the give of the plastic or the grate not being as sharp on my last product... I did not have to clear any excess from the press before crushing another clove, and was able to do this with more than an entire pod at once. Then, as mentioned previously, it took a fairly short time to clean relative to other presses as the grate could be accessed more easily. It is not removable, but you can isolate it in a form that allows a knife to easily clear any remains. The cleaning took... roughly 30 seconds or so... 45 at most. Not bad for a garlic press. If the product does not deform over time, then I will say this product is definitely a great buy. I did buy this on special. I am a newly graduated college student, and if it had not been on special, I would not have even thought of purchasing it. However, if you have the money, I would say it is worth it. I am pleased with the product so far, and I hope it is still pleasing in the future.

I eat a main meal out 6 days a week and at least two of them are a fish dinner complete with a slice of lemon. I always liked to squeeze a bit of the lemon on the fish but frequently ended up with a messy situation and sticky fingers. Once while trying to compress the slice between a soup spoon and a fork the lemon managed to somehow slip out and fly over my shoulder and land in the middle of the occupied table behind me. I jumped up and grabbed my napkin and recaptured the slice and wiped up the spot. Fortunately the diners were quite nice about it but I decided not to try that maneuver again. I happened to think a garlic press might just be the answer and tried 2 different ones. One had no size description and though cheaper, was just not handy to use. The one I'm reviewing is smaller and has a basket to be squeezed of about an inch deep and not quite an inch long and about 5/8 or so wide. I cut the slice in two and fork the two pieces into the press. A larger than expected amount of juice is available. I now drip a few drops into my water glass also. The solid sides of the container keep the juice coming out the perforated bottom only. I now have a total of four of these presses since I keep one in both vehicles and can have one or two in the dishwasher also. I keep them in zippered sandwich bags in the vehicles and carry the used one back home in the same bag. The one that didn't work out was actually labeled as a lemon squeezer but obviously designed to deal with a whole or half of a lemon at once. It really doesn't do well with a single slice at all. I put a lot of effort into the trial squeeze and got almost nothing and part of that went sideways onto my shirt. That tool is brightly colored and made out of aluminum with a thick coloring layer. The one here is made out of stainless steel and is just nice and shiny. Yup, I'm quite happy with it cuzz it does work well.

I like this press. Seems very well built and I don't think I'll destroy it at the hinge like I did my old one (which was a different model). Some comments based on other reviews: Basket size - Yes, it's on the smallish size. I'd say 1 large clove or maybe 2 smaller cloves at a time. With this unit overloading will result in you being dissatisfied because it will result in a mess (garlic squeezing up the sides or overlapping the edges of the basket). Cleaning - They supply a brush but you still need a toothpick to clean. The problem is with the basket. The basket is made of folded metal and 2 of the edges are not welded together. This results in a seam where garlic can get stuck during pressing. To clear garlic out of the seam you will have to use a toothpick to pick any remnants out of the seam. Not a huge problem but could be fixed by the manufacturer by simply welding the 2 open seams in the basket. Size - I have medium hands and don't have any problem using this press. However people with small hands may have a problem at the beginning of the press cycle. Otherwise this unit seems to function without any problems. To me construction quality and the resulting pressed garlic are the 2 main things I worry about. A little inconvenience cleaning is a non issue (but should be addressed by the manufacturer). Based on this I would recommend this unit.

This is hands down the BEST garlic press!!!! It is a little beast! It makes mean work of garlic cloves! I have only used two others in my lifetime and never felt they were much easier than just chopping up the garlic myself. I decided it was time to try another garlic press and was between two - I chose this one mostly b/c of the little basket in the middle that is useful for rinsing it clean. No longer am I peeling garlic first or chopping off the ends and standing at my cutting board chopping up garlic trying not to chop my fingers. Simply pull a clove off the head and put the entire clove (I have used very large cloves) and squeeze! It pops (kind of like a pimple sometimes - I know - eww gross) - so make sure it is aimed where you want it to go. A lot of the garlic is still on the bottom - I just take a knife or whatever utensil is nearby and scrape it off. Voila! Done! For cleaning - I open it up and pull the paper covering out of the basket - sometimes it is very stuck on the bottom and you have to use a utensil for help - but I can't complain b/c it seriously got all of the garlic out! I have seen a little garlic come out of the sides but I just grab it with my finger and flick it in the pot. I have found rinsing to be sufficient - especially b/c I only use it for garlic so far. I clean it by hand with soap and water every few uses. It is very comfortable in my hand - I am 5'4" and have some arthritis in my hands but I can do this just fine - sometimes it takes both hands. This thing is one of my favorite kitchen utensils! Saves time and hassle. You should love this and can't go wrong with it. I know I rely heavily on reviews. Two years in, this press works well. No complaints on its ability to press garlic. But the design/construction has an annoying flaw. The basket that the garlic is compressed in has gaps at the seams — they’ve grown over time — and you can count on shreds of garlic getting stuck in them. And they’re a pain to get out. The holes in the basket aren’t bad to clean, but the seams can be tough to clean out — the gaps are tiny towards the bottom. It doesn’t keep this press from performing well, but the flaw is irritating enough that I wouldn’t buy this again.
