    • a fun, versatile set
My nine year old has really been enjoying it. I really like how open-ended the materials are, and the challenges are engaging. A lot of "STEM" kits just involve following construction instructions, whereas this kit challenges kids to come up with their own solutions, which makes it much more educational and means the kids don't tire of it nearly as quickly. A few quibbles -- the screw eyes are very difficult to fully screw into the provided nuts without a tool, and the points where the wires are attached to the motors are somewhat vulnerable (but easy to fix if you have a soldering iron). I will also say that the markup on these materials is considerable; you're paying for the idea/design/curriculum more than you are for the stuff. You could source most of these things online or at the hardware store fairly cheaply, but that also means that the kit is easily expanded and broken pieces easily replaced. ... show more

There are lots of science and engineering kits out there, but it’s rare to see ones that encourage actual innovation and open-ended thinking rather than simply following instructions. I’m so impressed with this set!!
