  • At this size, it won't replace your laptop... but it's pretty darn close!
Size: iPad Mini 1/2/3 Color: Rose Gold for iPad Mini 1/2/3
So, this is a bit of a silly gripe for me, but... why is the charging cable different from the ipad's? Wouldn't it make more sense to use a lightning cable? I mean... But, okay. Fine. Moving on... have some backstory: I have a few machines around the house, but my go-to was my macbook air. I could take that little fella anywhere with me. We wrote a lot of stuff together: emails, reddit posts, short stories, comics. It lived until the ripe old age of eight when, tragically, half its keys stopped working over the course of a month. RIP, lil computer. So I was faced with the task of figuring out a replacement. I don't like the new macbooks all that much, and I don't trust Windows as an operating system in the slightest. I've been on the fence about dumping the idea of a 'laptop' altogether: much of what I did on the Air, I do with my phone these days. I considered going for an ipad pro, but that is a big investment for an experiment that might not work. But here's the thing: I have this old ipad mini back from my traveling artsman days. It used to keep my portfolio and reel, but it's worn many hats in its time with me: as an ereader when I was between kindles, as a streaming machine when I wanted to watch Netflix from bed, and even as a second work monitor when I couldn't afford a Dell. Why couldn't I try to use it as a writing machine, like I did with my Air? I'm prepping for a business trip and I'm uncomfortable traveling with only my phone for tech, so I started up a search for a travel keyboard compatible with my baby iPad. I wasn't expecting to find the ONHI, but when it popped into my search results, I knew I had to try it! Time for the review! The case: The keyboard I purchased is a rose gold. It's pretty close to the rose gold on my iphone, though I can't say it's a perfect match. I don't think the giant hole in the front of the case is necessary and it's a little on the ugly side, but I went ahead and covered it with an equally ugly sticker, so I can't really complain. It feels heavy when you first take it out of the box, but it's really much lighter than my old macbook air. I almost wish it was a little heavier, but I know I'm in the minority for that! Its charging port is easy to access. It's on the same side as my ipad's port, which is nice. Get yourself one of those 2-in-1 lightning/micro usb cables for on the go charging if you plan on traveling with your portable setup. Contrary to some reviews, my case fits my ipad just fine. The keyboard: The keyboard isn't backlit, but they do say that in the item details here on Amazon so I wasn't expecting it. I use a book light clipped to the corner of my ipad to illuminate the keyboard if I need it. The keyboard is easy to pair. I don't know if there is an auto-off feature, and I keep forgetting to manually turn it off when I'm done using it, so I don't know how long the battery will last me... but it hasn't run out over the course of a few days of use, so there's that. The keys have a great tactile feel. It reminds me of the previous generation of apple keyboards, where the keys had just a bit more resistance to them. They don't feel sharp, nor do they feel mushy. But let's talk about those keys... or, more specifically, the layout. BE WARNED: the keys aren't completely qwerty. They strike me as a combination of the iOS keyboard and a qwerty keyboard, with your apostrophe and question mark keys in strange places. That takes some getting used to... as well as the delete key, which feels like it's in the wrong place but really isn't. The keys are also smaller than that of the apple keyboard. It's a small keyboard, so this was the best way to fit them all on there, I'm sure... that being said, I find that I type very differently on that machine than I do on a normal laptop. I won't be writing 100 wpm on this machine, but it's much easier to type on than the iOS keyboard, and it isn't an uncomfortable experience. Final thoughts: This little case has breathed new life into my iPad mini and I fully recommend it. I won't be writing any novels with it, but for casual use, it's pretty great! I'm growing more and more confidant with the idea of using an ipad in place of a laptop, and I'm already making plans to upgrade this little setup in the fall. I don't think I'll stop using the mini and the OHNI any time soon, though! ... show more

  • Worth every penny. I love it!
Size: iPad 10.2"&10.5" Color: Touch Rose Gold for iPad 10.2"&10.5"
I’ve been using a Zagg Slimbook keyboard with my iPad mini for several years. I use my iPad and keyboard a lot; it’s very nearly a replacement for a laptop for me. I use it every day, sometimes for several hours every day. I bought a new iPad Pro and almost just bought a new Zagg Slimbook because I had loved my first one so much. I was very reluctant to try any other brand, because I doubted it would live up to the Zagg. I actually had the Zagg Slimbook in my Amazon cart, but kept finding myself going back to look at this one. It was the color, I admit, because it matched my new rose gold color iPad Pro. I got seduced by the color of this one. Of course, I read some reviews first. The reviews all seemed good enough, so I decided to try it, on the assumption I would simply return it if I didn’t like it as well as the Zagg. And to tell the truth, I didn’t expect to like it as much, so I kind of expected I would return it. I can’t believe it, but I love it even MORE than the Zagg. The feel of the keys while I type is perfect for me; just enough mechanical action to get the sensory feedback I need to type really fast, but no noise to speak of. (I’m a touch typist and type something like 85 WPM.). And, of course, since my iPad Pro 10.5 inch is bigger than my previous iPad mini, this keyboard is a bit bigger, so the keys are all more correctly spaced. I guesstimate it’s about 95% of the size of the full-size keyboard on my laptop. I’m pretty sure I’m typing faster on this keyboard than I was on the Zagg that I loved so much. Pairing was painless and fast. (Although the first time I turned off the Bluetooth and turned it on again, I had to re-pair. Hope that doesn’t continue to happen. I’ve only turned it off the one time since I’ve had it.) I’ve only had this a little more than 48 hours, but I’ve been using it a lot (worked almost all weekend) and it’s lived up to every expectation. I also love that you can change the color of the backlighting (the purple is my favorite so far) and that the backlighting has 3 brightness levels. One small complaint is that the right Shift key isn’t exactly where I expect it to be. The up arrow key is where I expect the shift to be. Apparently this is the case on many portable keyboards (although that was not true of my Zagg keyboard. It was in the expected spot on that one.). So I sometimes found myself getting sent back to the beginning of the document (because I accidentally hit the up arrow instead of the shift key.). That happened quite a lot at the beginning and it was frustrating. But I’ve adjusted fairly quickly and am now typing just as quickly as always and hitting the shift key accurately now. It’s a little heavier than I would have preferred, although that may simply be because it’s bigger than my previous Zagg. I didn’t compare the weight of this one to the weight of the Zagg for this size iPad. But for me, this small difference in weight is a minor inconvenience. I’m not carrying it around all that often. The only other place it falls a little short of the Zagg Slimbook is that the case part of the Zagg can be detached from the keyboard so you can carry around just the iPad without the keyboard, but still in a case. This case doesn’t detach from the keyboard, so if you want to use the iPad without the keyboard, you’d have to take it out and it would not be in a case. Again, for me, this isn’t a problem. I never did that with the Zagg; I just don’t use my iPad that way. I use it like a laptop. But I can see how this might be a problem for some people. I really love this keyboard. As long as you understand all the pros and cons as described above, don’t hesitate to buy it. It’s less expensive than the Zagg, and for me, it’s actually better. (But if you can’t live with the above cons, the Zagg Slimbook is a really, really good option, too. I loved that one a lot. It’s ONLY downside was the tiny size, but that was for my iPad mini, so I assume the one for the iPad Pro would be larger, like this one. It has reasonably good action on the keys, it’s a bit lighter (I assume), and as mentioned, you can detach the case from the keyboard. And the shift key is where you expect it to be.) FYI - I did NOT receive any kind of compensation for this review (no free product, etc.). It’s my completely independent review. ... show more

  • My Ipad 6 fits in this case perfectly.
Size: iPad Mini 6 Color: Rose Gold for iPad Mini 6
Love the durability and extra keys on the keyboard. Sometimes the first letter of words is left off. I don’t know if it is something I am doing or just a quirk. With extra durability comes added weight but it really protects the Ipad. The trade off is worth it.
