Top Amazon Reviews

  • No Bad, Suffers from very poor instructions
Style: 16 Line New
Review of OMMO 16 line level Model No OM-LL05. Paid about $100 for it on Amazon. Set up was relatively intuitive. I have used laser levels before. The written instruction booklet for this one is very limited. The manual doesn't explain SLASH mode at all. Found info on the Amazon page for this unit under the MORE link. I tried doing research on the unit on YouTube (where I usually get all my answers about these kind of things). My research discovered that there are TONS of units like this from a lot of sources with Chinese brand names. I could not find a useful video for my unit - the OMMO 16 line level. Based on my initial setup and use of this unit, I don't think it is any worse than the rest I looked at. Seems like there is really one manufacturer and a number of sellers each with their own brand name. Also, rapid upgrades in things like carry cases, batteries and chargers. The basic accessories seem to be pretty much standard in all versions. Also, there are no written instructions for the short tripod. The adjustable legs are obvious. But there are three other adjusting knobs lacking information. I discovered that the one at the top of the center column is for rotating the upper base holding the level "box" to get it exactly where you want it for the vertical lines on floor and ceiling. The two knobs on the next lower level and near two of the legs are a mystery. I thought they might be for micro-adjusting the front-back and left-right level of the lower base (after the individual legs are set up). However, I couldn't discern any noticeable movement in the base height in these directions as the knobs were turned. So, I still have no clue about the purpose of these knobs. The 16 lines are pretty much the max you can ask for. They appear to be fairly bright (and with a two level brightness adjustment. I didn't try measuring for accuracy because I don't need that much accuracy and have no real means to verify the alignment beyond simple woodworking tools over very short distances (<36 inches). The provided remote is not typical of many of the similar units. The typical remote has three buttons for specific laser level functions. This one has generic buttons 1-10. The instruction manual tries to explain what each button is for. As noted above, the SLASH function is reserved for 3 and 4, apparently to lock out/in self-leveling so you can manually set an inclined line - like for a stairway - without the self-leveling alarm going off. Button 1 says it is the Level Control Switch. It is really the Horizontal control switch. Button #1 is for the horizontal level lines and Button #2 is for the vertical level lines. Unfortunately, the legend for button 1 is not understandable. But, transfer the concept and functioning for button 2 to button 1 and you should have a better understanding. DON"T LOSE THE INSTRUCTION MANUAL. It may not be worth much, but it's all you've got! And, for referencing the remote functions, you should keep it handy. Button 10 is said to be ALL ON/OFF. But, it doesn't seem to be a power button in the conventional sense. It seems to rapidly cycle through all the line setup options. I don't think it turned the unit off. I know it did not turn the unit on. One of the challenges is fitting the components back into the EXCELLENT plastic case. I managed to figure it out and I've uploaded pics of the storage solution. (One of the batteries is stored attached to the laser level unit.) For long-term storage, this is not such a great idea. Better to just toss it in the case loose rather than risk it leaking inside the unit during storage. The little hanging bracket that is attached to the beam extending from the magnetic wall mount is stored attached and under the beam. the battery charger is also stored under the beam (wall prongs up). The power cord for the battery charger can lie under the beam also, or it can be pulled to the surface of the foam liner and wrapped around the various components. The huge variety of these almost identical lasers, their various upgrades and different versions and the radical pricing differences is daunting. Discerning the real differences may be challenging. I couldn't even find the unit I bought the next day on Amazon using search. The only way I found it was to look up my orders and click on it. It's a confusing array of products! ... show more

  • Don't trust what your phone level app says.
Style: 16 Line
Don't trust what your phone level app says, your laser distance/angle measurement tool, or even your bubble level: this thing is really precise. If you want to test the precision of this laser level, use a plummet or water: a level hose or a simple large translucent plastic bottle filled with water. I did it and I am surprised that it is more exact than any of the said tools. The laser is very bright. Some people complain that it cannot be seen outdoors in sunlight. No laser level can; at least not a safe one. If that was possible, that laser would be terribly dangerous for your eyes. This laser complies with safety standard levels for your eyes. That said, never stare at the beams: safety levels consider fast accidental glimpses, but looking fixedly at any laser, even under legal levels of brightness, could damage your eyes. The manual does not offer too much detail about the use of this equipment, just the basics, but it is clear about the warnings, and that is the most important information that you need. EDIT: The remote control did not work on arrival, even if the red light turned on when the buttons were pressed. I contacted support, both ways: through Amazon and by email directly to the seller. By Amazon, the response arrived the next day: just had to synchronize the frequencies at both ends, pressing the H key in the laser level and the UP key in the remote control at the same time. That solved the problem. Three days later, the response from the direct email to the company arrived, with a video attached explaining the same solution. In any case, the response was excellent, problem solved upon first contact with technical support. Now my laser works 100%. Very happy. ... show more

  • Initial purchase DOA, great follow up, pleased with second purchase.
Style: 16 Line
I had ordered one of these units a couple of weeks ago, ran through some initial power-on/function testing, and it was pretty apparent that it was DOA, so I initiated a return. There were a couple of other minor issues like the lack of a manual/product info card in the case, but the unit would not self-level, regardless of the switch position, so something had happened that rendered the product unusable. Left an unhappy review, and the vendor reached out. They seemed interested in solving the problem, so after a brief conversation, I gave them the benefit of the doubt, and ordered a second unit. Immediately upon powering the second unit on, there was a night and day difference compared to the previous order (including a user guide this time, which is nice). Checked against a few different levels after multiple self-levelling routines and it seems to be pretty accurate. This is something that I needed to handle a few minor upcoming projects, so exactly how long this tool lasts remains to be seen, but it seems robust enough that I can see it being used for quite a while. ... show more
