I took the Topwater out on a local river yesterday to give it a test drive. Oh my goodness, this kayak is so much better than my last one. Solid performer all around with lots of storage space. Solid build with a well-designed layout. The only problem was a fat guy trying to pedal upstream. You could purchase kayaks a lot worse than this one, but you would be hard pressed to find one that is better. Shipping was slowed down by Covid-19, but it got here with no problems. I really appreciate the information on the Austin kayak website as well as their Facebook presence and the sense of community they provide new buyers. Knowledgeable staff answering questions to put minds at ease. Great group of guys! ... show more

Awesome kayak! Have taken it out well over 10 times already here in san diego. Fresh and saltwater. Highly recommend buying hitch bed extender for transport if wanting to purchase this kayak. PDL drive is awesome. Great for fishing(standing up is no problem), diving and getting a workout. Great buy!

I have about 50 hours on my Topwater120 pdl. I fish backwaters in the mangroves and even the dock in the inlet. The lay out is perfect but the best thing is 15 inch tape on padded floor. The seat is x2 wide and forward facing rod hold is awesome when you double up or have to reach for pliers. the thing is dry even when drive is up it takes on water but the way the floor slopes it drains right out. the drive goes about as fast as a trolling motor on hi. I only use the 4 drains it came with. I thing best thing is it has reverse to back off a hooded fish. Saving for fish finder now. ... show more

I can't say enough good things about this kayak. Yes, it's heavy, but that's part of what makes it so stable on the water. I stand up to fight fish, even throw a cast net from it, and have never tipped. The pedal drive is incredible. A better gear ratio for more speed would be nice, but that could also make it harder to pedal, so I'm okay with how it is. I've caught a lot of fish on this boat, since I can throw a lure hands free of a paddle. Just set the rudder, pedal forward or backward, with or against tide, and fish away. Plenty of little storage compartments and rod holders. I added a milk crate with three additional rod holders, and a pool noodle at the top of the seat for more padding, but that's about it.
