I finally upgraded to this controller when the badly designed micro USB port on the stock controller was damaged and rendered useless. The only parts I could find where in China and would take weeks to get here. My job is to fly my drone daily for power line inspections. So I ordered this using Amazon’s easy payment plan. Within the first few minutes of flying, I realized this was the right choice. I will never go back to the regular controller. Feels good in your hands and is comfortable after hours of use. You only need to get 2 other things to make this controller epic: Get a strap for it. Especially if you’re going through many batteries in a day. The battery lasts about 4 hours but for those of us in the profession, that’s not enough. The solution is the get a power bank. I bought a Ravpower bank with a USB-C 5v/3a output and it does the trick. It’s not fast charging like the AC adapter (and the remote will tell you this), but it’s enough to keep the controller running all day. The only issue I’ve discovered is that if you’re connected to the aircraft and close the DJI Go app to mess with the setting, then go back to the app, sometimes the video from the camera will be black. The only solution other than landing and rebooting everything was to just leave the drone hovering and restart the controller. I’m hoping DJI corrects this soon. Go Share is amazing! Part of my job is to report any emergency conditions I find on the circuits immediately to the customer. Go Share makes this easy. Just download the pic, connect Go Share to my phone and then email it in. Just make sure you shut down Go Share after downloading the pic or it will drain your battery. It’s expensive but worth it. In fact, I just ordered a new Mavic 2 Zoom as a backup and bought the Smart Controller combo. Saves a ton of money doing it that way. Hopefully this controller is future proof and will work on next generation Mavics. ... show more

This controller is a game changer when flying any drone, it's first person view makes flying way easier and it has better features, along with the fact that you don't have to have your phone being taken up by the drone.     • Awesome compared to original controller
I bought this to replace the original cell phone controller that came with my Mavic Zoom. This is so much better to use and see. I could never see the small screen on my cell phone and being outside was terrible with the glare and being so dim. This works perfectly and I love that I do not have to fiddle with my cell phone to hook it up before flying. It is very expensive though and that is unfortunate. Not sure if it is worth 700 bucks, but now that I have it, it makes me want to fly more often. ... show more

    • The Smart Controller is actually close to worth its price
I bought this product for 3 reasons...convenience of not fiddling with all the attachments to get my Ipad mini hooked to my controller. I dont like the weight and balance of the controller with the ipad attached. i found summer days trying to get my ipad setup while the screen is washed out due to glare is irritating. What is great about the product: the weight and balance is awesome. the build quality is top notch. it feels solid, there is nothing cheap about this unit. The screen is easily viewable in sunlight. The touch sensitivity had surprising no lag. software response was instant. The 4th reason to purchase this product that i discovered was because of the balance of the unit, my flying was much more precise. i took it out the first day and did some manual orbits around a point and felt much more connected to the drone. is it worth $749? considering a new controller is probably $250, i think the price could be $500 for this unit. but it is what it is. it just really depends on how much convenience and balance and improved flying experienced means to you. does it provide features you dont get with a controller and an Ipad...no it doesnt. does it provide a better experience, sunlight readable, better balance, more controlled flying?     • More comfortable than the original controller
Received the Smart Controller today and just got done configuring and installing the firmware update. I like that the controller and display are integrated into one unit. I like the feel and balance of the controller much more than the original Mavic 2 controller. Hope to get out tomorrow or the next day to try flying with the controller. No problems connecting the controller and my Mavic. No complaints other than I wish the device were less expensive. I was using an iPad and bracket and was always concerned the iPad would come loose or I'd accidentally disconnect the cable. 5/14: Got to fly with it yesterday. What a tremendous controller and super clear display. After 4 years and 2 drones I can finally see the screen with my 70+ year old eyes. ... show more
