  • Ridiculously quiet; no firmware update needed
I bought this because I thought my old controller board was dying. (Turns out that it was a cable issue but I digress...) I am absolutely amazed by how quiet the stepper motors are now, almost to a point of being disconcerting. I have a number of Enter 3 Pros, and I've become accustomed to the white noise of the stepper motors when they're printing. Last night I actually *forgot* that I was printing a part because the motors are now insanely quiet. I am not kidding when I say that the cooling fans now produce more noise than the motors. Everything on the board is clearly labeled, so moving the cables from one to the other is straightforward enough. There is one marked at BL, which I assumed was for a BL-Touch, but it turns out that it was still needed for the printer. I can't remember what I had to plug in there, but if you plug everything else in, the one that remains goes in that port. Considering the cost, if you really need or want a quiet printer, I would absolutely recommend this over a Big Tree Tech board replacement, which in my experience does NOT work out of the box. This controller board, however, does and it works perfectly. ... show more

  • Silent, 32 bit, works great!
Perfect fit, works great, connector for the CRTouch worked. Only issue was I had to reflash it for the printer to home even though it was supposed to be set up for the ender 3 pro by default. The reflash was quick and easy though.

  • If you're wanting to upgrade anything, let this be the first thing you upgrade!!
NOTE: This required me to use a small heat gun that I happened to have to loosen up the manufacturer's hot glue on some of the connectors. Even though things are labeled, make sure you take a picture of the original motherboard BEFORE you do anything at all to it (coming from past experience). If you don't have a heat gun, I cannot say whether or not a hair dryer would work. Other than that it was as simple as unscrewing some screws and minor cable management. Also, dont be afraid to cut the zip ties the manuf. ties around the wiring on the motherboard. I cut that off carefully and didn't end up even having to replace it. -Also this one didn't require any updates or anything to work with my specific machine (Ender 3 Pro) Review: I seriously cannot believe how silent this makes my Ender 3 Pro. When i say silent i mean literally silent. Because when i bought this i expected the noise levels to reduce a lot but i had no idea it could be reduced by this much But yeah, WOW. It's not just silent now but its printing much better for some reason... Im not sure how on a technical level, but it appears to me that temperature regulations are better and the way it prints and the order is does things seem to be if not different, maybe just quicker? But not at the cost of print quality. My prints have been coming out perfect so far and i am super happy with my purchase. I've upgraded several things including a glass bed, new nozzles, new bowden tube. This upgrade though is by FAR the best and more drastic improvement I've gotten out of any of my past upgrades. ... show more

  • Whisper quiet printing.
I keep my printer in the room next to my bedroom. When running overnight prints I could hear the printer making all kinds of racket. It would on occasion wake me. The Silent board does exactly what it's supposed to. The installation was a bit of a hassle on my Ender 3 Pro, since the printer has to be turned on it's side, or upside down to get the board out and some of the wires are difficult to remove. Part of the removal involves taking a copious amount of hot melt glue off the plugs. Creality wants to make sure the plugs stay inserted and I assure you, they do. I was very careful and even used a hot air gun to soften the glue. This helped a lot. When I first looked at the old board it was a little intimidating. I couldn't see all the mounting screws. It also looks like a lot of wires and plugs to remember. Fortunately all the plugs are labeled. I managed to get everything out and back in again and finally got the board installed again. The new board works great! I later discovered, thanks in part to some fellow Amazon reviewers, that there is a bug in the firmware, version 1.1.8 that can cause some prints to stop at about 35% completion. This required flashing the board. I don't know if having to learn how to flash was good for me or not, but flash it, I did. Again, thanks to fellow Amazon reviewers, I got the tips I needed to allow me to make it happen. A few words of advice on flashing this board: It already has a built in bootloader, so plugging the printer directly into a computer via a serial port is all that's needed as far as flashing hardware. I went to TH3D and downloaded their firmware package and watched a video on youtube that showed me exactly what and how to do it. The TH3D flash is based on a Marlin flash, but tweaked a bit, and it includes all the settings needed for the Ender 3. With this in hand it's possible to flash the board in 10 minutes or so. It's not Creality's fault the bug exists. The bug is in the Marlin version, so I didn't knock off a star. After all I did learn how to flash my board and this paid off very handily when I updated to ABL. I really like using my printer now, and running it all night means only a whisper from the fans. I can live with this. Perhaps I will eventually replace the fans with quieter ones, but for now it's great. ... show more
