The OEMTOOLS Combination Tune-Up Feeler Gauge features hardened and tempered steel blades that are laser etched with both inches and millimeters. Its blade protector has a thumb notch to aid Inch blade removal. From the Manufacturer This Tune-Up Feeler Gauge consists of six brass blades measuring .006-inch (.152mm) to .016-inch (.406mm); 12 steel blades measuring .010-inch (.254mm) to .026-inch (.660mm), 6 wire gauges measuring .025-inch (.635mm) to .045-inch (1.143mm), and 1 electrode adjusting tool. I've played guitar for several years now, and only in the past few months have I begun seriously working on guitar setup/repairs as a luthier. The one glaring problem I had as a budding enthusiast was that my tools weren't up to snuff (what average workbench setup has gauges designed to measure in thousandths?) After cringing at prices from LuthierSupply, StewMac, and the like, I stumbled onto this feeler gauge in my Amazon recommendations (thank you once again for reading my mind...though it is getting a bit creepy...) For under $5, it seemed like a safe bet to take a chance on, and I snapped one up immediately. Upon opening, the first thing I noticed was..oil. Be warned: The blades come packaged with some form of lubricant between them that I doubt most would want to spread on other surfaces (like the fretboard of your guitar for example). After wiping much of the excess off, I examined the actual tool: The blades themselves are very well made, easy to read, and are perfect for measuring everything from variances in fret heights (those that are impossible to gauge by eye) to pickup and string height (in order to setup action and neck relief). For those measurements exceeding 0.025"/0.635mm it's a simple matter to add adjacent blades in combination up to a total of 0.328"/8.332mm. This is made possible due to the fact that the first blade on the wheel is actually the .025"/.635mm, allowing gauges to be added progressively from the smallest value up. Perhaps this is obvious, but I did not see it mentioned in the item description, and it does increase its overall usefulness. Furthermore, the protective metal sleeve can be removed to separate the gauges for individual use by removing the thumb screw at the top (though I personally have yet to see the need to do so). And don't worry, I've yet to see any indication that the screw can fall off on its own and scatter tiny impossible-to-pick-off-the-floor-by-hand gauges everywhere. All in all, a great little tool that I suspect will serve me well for many years to come. ... show more

    • Oily, but a great tool

Exactly what I needed for setting up my guitars. Good construction and very easy to use. Pros: Gets the job done, and the numbering is very big and easy to read on each feeler. Nice to have the little knob on it to tighten when you want to close it and keep it closed. Then you can simply loosen it to find the feeler that you need, then lock it back in place with a turn to use it. Solid all metal construction, seems to be something that will last, my only concern would be if the numbers ever faded. But they are in order, so if you have most of the numbers, you could figure out what's in between. Cons: As other viewers have said, there is some oil on each of the blades, which might be necessary. I don't think this thing is made of stainless steel, so a little lubrication is not a crazy idea here, but still, it will get on your hands when you use it. Conclusion: This is a great tool for setting up your guitar or whatever else you need. It has a lot of different-sized feelers and basically every increment from end to end is filled in and accounted for. I highly recommend this product, especially for the price. ... show more

For those of your who know what an HK 91 or PTR 91 is, then this little tool will help you ensure that you are within spec on your bolt gap. I saw some large salty tears and ruffled needle-point pillows here regarding excessive "grease" on this tool... next I heard the cymbal crash, and then nothing as I waited for the punchline to the grease joke. Carbon steel tools rust folks, I think that this tool would be rated 1 star if it came all pitted up with rust (which would defeat the sensitive range of the tool) as the result of an English-Tea-Time-appropriate amount of grease, designed not to smudge up your fancy white lacy gloves. Solution: Please take packing envelop to workshop, remove Marine Corps inspection gloves... Indian formal suit AND your white silk ascot, retrieve a paper towel, open the package VERY CAREFUL not to get grease on any fingers as this stuff is like acid, and then spend 2.36 seconds wiping excess grease from the tool seriously being CAREFUL not to clean it too well, inviting rust. Shipping was fast and free (for me, thank god prime), quality of the tool appears adequate with nice markings on each blade (I don't have the equipment to test the tester, but hey you got me here. I really didn't want the ivory handled model because this is supposed to be a tool and I only wanted to spend about $5. Convenient enough to throw in a range bag/hard case and forget about it.     • Not like other feeler gauges you've ever used

I've been working with feeler gauges at least 40 years (got my first car when I was 13). I know how to adjust valves and sparkplugs. You see videos, or read tutorials and they say "adjust until there is a slight drag." What is slight? How much drag? Then I heard someone mentioned "go,no go feeler gauges" and decided to try them. These feeler gauges feel very similar to others. Nothing extra. I'll assume they're calibrated correctly. However, where these are different is the tapered ends. They'll start at one measurement, and end with another. Ideally you'll want the measurement in the middle. For example: assuming you need .013" gap. You'll find the gauge marked .012/.014. If you can move the gauge to the .014 you're too big, if you can't even get it in the middle, you're too tight (and probably at .012). The only problem I see is not every number is between two adjustments. So while you can get .013 by using .012/.014, the next gauge is marked .014/.016. You'll need to use two different gauges if you're looking for .014. These are great to have if you work on engines ... show more
