Description
The OEMTOOLS 24444 Coolant System Refiller Kit purges trapped air, checks for vacuum leaks, and allows the user to refill the coolant system quickly and easily. This is an absolute game changer for coolant refill! I drained my coolant in my Chevy Cruze, and refilled with distilled water and Prestone flush chemical, and could NOT get the system to fill properly. I thought I had a blockage in my heater core since the heater would only blow cold air and the hoses into the firewall were never getting warm. In a moment of desperation I borrowed an air compressor from a buddy and bought this tool. I struggled in vain to fully purge all the air, and this system did the job 100% successfully in a matter of just a few minutes. No mess, no fuss, no ugly air pockets in my heater core causing the system to blow cold air. Immediately after filling the system with fluid using this tool, the heat was blowing nice and hot! I’ll never go back to manually filling a cooling system again! Thanks OEMTOOLS for an awesome product!

I found out about cooling system vacuum refiller kits while researching how to change the coolant in my car (which is notoriously difficult to change due to the tendency to get air bubbles and air locks upon a coolant change). Some people were reporting spending 8 to 10 hours doing ALL KINDS of crazy things to try and fix a hard to clear air bubble in my type of car. So, after a ton of research, I found out that these kits make changing your coolant literally a piece of cake and it only takes a couple minutes. This would be a huge advantage because I'm going to do a 'home flush' with distilled water, which means draining and refilling 3 or 4 times to dilute all the old coolant out (then refilling one last time with 100% strength new coolant). After researching, I found out that there is a leading brand of these vacuum coolant kits that costs approximately double what I paid for the OEMTOOLS 27066 kit. That brand gets great reviews, but I didn't want to spend well over $100 for my coolant flush. So, I picked the tool that seemed like the next best quality, and I was NOT disappointed. This thing worked GREAT! It literally took 30 seconds to place the cooling system under vacuum, and another 1 minute to fill a gallon and a half of distilled water back into the system. And NO air lock afterwards. Here's some things I learned: 1) Pay attention to the reviews and closely look at the pictures of the kits you are considering. A number of cheap kits (not this one) look the same and get consistently bad reviews. The OEMTOOLS kit (and other branded differently but identical kits) get pretty good reviews. Also note that some of the kits do not have different expanding rubber bushings to exactly fit different sized radiator necks. They just have a tapered rubber 'cone' that you cram in there and hope it holds. I really prefer the custom fit of the OEMTOOLS style kits. 2) When I first tried to use this kit, it did not work at all and would literally draw no vacuum despite running my air compressor for several minutes. I knew that my cooling system was solid. I knew that I had the tool well sealed in the radiator neck. Honestly, I thought I possibly had received a defective tool, or maybe my air compressor was not big enough to create the vacuum. I slept on it, and figured it out! My overflow hole is very low in the neck, and the tool was not able to seal that passageway. Simple fix was to remove the hose to the overflow tank and use a standard rubber vacuum hose cap to plug it. Once I did that, my small compressor created the required vacuum in literally less than 30 seconds. 3) I have a very small pancake-style compressor. I think it is 2.7 CFM at 90 PSI. It had NO TROUBLE AT ALL pulling the required vacuum. I did not need a huge shop-size compressor. 4) The other reviewer is right...the air compressor (male) fitting that comes on the kit is not the standard 1/4" quick-disconnect. It looks like it is bigger...maybe 3/8"? It definitely did not work and I had to temporarily rob one from another tool. FYI, in case you want to purchase one in advance. Hope this helps....this was a great tool and made this job super easy.

This coolant vacuum filler worked perfectly, I used it on a large Peterbilt truck but with the selection of adapter sleeves it could probably be used on anything. The case is strong and the tool itself quality.

I bought this to help refill the cooling system on my 2015 GMC 2500HD. Overall the tool did as advertised. BUT… when I used the proper sized rubber bushing in the expansion tank it would not pull a vacuum on the system. Thinking I had used the wrong size I used the next bigger size but it still wouldn’t pull a vacuum. Finally after a few minutes I tried the conical shaped one and it pulled a vacuum to -25 Hg in under 30 seconds. Awesome. The next problem was the built in strainer. It was too big to go into the antifreeze jug. Don’t know if it’s an antifreeze brand thing only related to prestone’s jug or all jugs. But I cut the hose above the strainer and inserted in the jug. Other than these 2 small issues I would recommend/buy it again.

No air in the cooling system! I've change my own radiator fluid a few times before, and I was never able to get all the air out, even after bleeding and burping the system for hours. This was super easy, and only took about 30 minutes from start to finish with set up and everything. And most importantly? No air bubbles in the cooling system when you're done, so no more overheating issues. There's a lot of YouTube videos to watch that will tell you how to do this, but only a couple of them show you how to do it right though. The most important thing is after you've created a vacuum in your cooling system with this device and your minimum 90 psi air compressor, you want to open the valve between your cooling system and bucket of coolant very slowly to suck up fluid into the tube so it goes all the way up to the valve, so the tube is full of coolant and not air, then close the valve when the coolant reaches the valve. Then create a vacuum one more time with your air compressor to get every last bit of air out, and then open the valve going to your bucket of coolant. This prevents sucking in a tube full of air into the system before sucking up the coolant. Also, make sure there's always plenty of extra coolant in your bucket to prevent any air from being sucked into your cooling system. And I duct taped the hose inside the bucket, So there was no chance it could move upward and let air get sucked in. This was worth every penny, and I'll never change radiator fluid again without it!

Changing coolant on cars & trucks is pretty easy and prolongs the life of the water pump and radiator. The nasty part is removing trapped air pockets after refilling the vehicle (aka burping), which is messy, wasteful and presents a possible risk of scalding or head gasket failure if the car has localized overheating due to the trapped air pocket. This simple device avoids all of this and also enables thoroughly testing the cooling system for leaks **Before** filling it with sticky and expensive coolant. It makes the whole refill, burp and test process effortless - literally a 5 minute job. You might not even have to set your can of beer down to do it! The kit comes with a series of adapters to fit virtually any vehicle and a hard plastic case to keep everything in. You will need a source of compressed air to operate the device, but even a little tire inflator table top compressor will work, but make take a few iterations to get all the air out. I did 3 vehicles back to back with the system and the only other thing I did was give the tool a rinse with clean water so the sticky coolant wouldn't gum things up while stored. Super easy to operate - connect to the coolant expansion tank or radiator, depending on your vehicle, connect the air source, then turn on the compressed air valve air to pull all the air out of the cooling system and watch the gauge to shut things off when the lowest air pressure is reached. Then watch the gauge with the compressed air turned off for a few minutes to make sure no air is sneaking in (a sign of a cooling system leak), then open the valve connected to the hose that you've dropped into a bucket containing your fresh replacement coolant. When the gauge goes back to zero, the filling has completed and you can remove everything - you're done!

Seemed to be of good construction out of the box. However, while using the system it would not hold a vacuum. It wouldn’t go above -5 psi and would let down when the valve was turned off. I double checked the minimal instructions included to confirm I was operating the top correctly which I was. I wanted this tool to work as intended but obviously there was an underlying issue which caused it not to perform to its desired potential. There had to be an underlying cause which I believe was I. The construction of the tool as I checked every connection to confirm proper seal. I ended up using a buddies tool that held a constant vacuum and that tool worked as it should. I will be returning this item and looking for another brand.
