These warm up within seconds. Actually, I found the lowest setting to be almost too warm when held in a room at normal temperature. According to the website, this temperature is deliberate due to earlier complaints about the heat level during cold sports. Here in North Carolina, it may be more than typically necessary. I have ordered hand warmers each fall for the last four years. They have all worked fine for heat, but functionality with grip and storage has been a problem until now! I’ve included comparison photos of the difference between these little gems and the traditional size of other hand warmers. It’s a significant difference. You can tell by the dings and scratches on the large version that it’s been dropped repeatedly because it’s literally too big to grip. With this appropriately sized magnetic pair, you get two for one and even when linked together, they are easy to hold. I will say that the magnet is not strong, and the magnetic side doesn’t heat, so you lose the all-around heat you get with larger warmers, but I’m willing to look past this since hand warmers you continually drop on the ground aren’t doing anyone any good! I wish the material was a little more grippy, but again, they are easy to hold even with the slick surface. I love my handwarmers, they make a real difference and I've already used them a bunch. However, the battery only lasts about 2.5 hours on the lowest setting. It is disappointing that for an all day event I'd still need to use disposable/chemical handwarmers. But, I'm still very happy with these.

Used these on a recent trip north. I have little tolerance for cold weather and these kept my fingers from freezing. They get very hot and the lowest setting was sufficient for me. They are a bit slippery so I regretted not using the wrist straps. I liked that I could hold one in each hand or connect them.
