  • Humidity needs to be verified
It's my second OH-2, The olded is 3 Years old Untill now I thought I knew the exact temp and humidity Now after receiving the new OH-2, There's a difference of 7% humidity between the old and the new OH-2 Which one shows the correct humidity? No thanks for having 2 OH-2 which shows different data, I had to order Cigar Oasis Caliber 4R So it will judge which is more accurate... What a headache... ... show more

  • Only off by 1%
I bought this to compare D'Addarios Bluetooth hydrometer. I calibrated with Boveda 32% and found it to be only 1% off. Works great. (not so true with D'Addario as I use them in guitar cases. Move the case and the accuracy of the hydrometer changes by up to 5%.

  • Seems very accurate in the case of my Taylor PS14CE with humidipacks.
I leave my Oasis hydrometer on top of the door in the case so it rests right beside my neck and my case is always laid flat and not upright or sidestood and this hydrometer tells me very accurately what's going on with the temp and humidity in the case which seems to be very accurate at this point. All I did was put in the battery, turn it on and let it get accustomed to the room temp and humidity and just leave it on and place it inside the case. It stays on all the time constantly monitoring conditions inside the case. I use humidipacks but I live in Alabama so when the weather gets more stable and not so much back and forth from hot to cold then I can remove the packs and this Oasis monitor as long as it's on and measuring, should tell me when the time comes around about when to add my humidipacks back for the protection of the guitar. My only complaint is that I'm not putting the velcro sticky part on the guitar or inside the case anywhere by no means so mine just lays on top of the internal door beside the neck. In the future if they could add a cordlike line or string attachment so it can be fixed to the internal accessories door inside the case so it wont move during travel and scractch the guitar or damage the hydrometer, could be a great flexible way of attachment to more desired areas inside the case. When traveling I open the case, lift the guitar, then place the Oasis inside the internal door. ... show more

  • Acceptable performance for inexpensive case thermometer
Please read the Q&A if you are lextremely concerned with accuracy. As far as I see Oasis makes no claims regarding accuracy. Currently I use 5 hygrometers. 3 of them are this Oaisis model. Like the Q&A discussion, I have run tests with the 3 together and the group of 5 together. There is some minor variation in the side by side reading on the Oasis, and there is some minor variation among the 5. I use these hygrometers for guitars. They are used inside hard cases with up-to-date humidipaks installed. If I have a guitar out of the case for a day or more, the hygrometer is hung in the Oasis string holder right next to the sound hole. The room with the guitar rack is also monitored for room temperature and humidity. The minor variations on these hygrometers become inconsequential in the context of overall monitoring. My guess is that those of you who have real concerns about monitoring have multiple methods and are generally cautious. Some spend more for greater accuracy AND precision. I am satisfied that the Oasis is a successful part of my guitar protection program. If you are looking for a single solution for your guitar's health, this will likely give you a reasonable solution. It will assure you that you have access to the warning signs of a moisture and heat/cold environment that may be toxic to your instrument's health. ... show more

  • Monitor your musical instruments!
When I first moved into my new house I felt my lever harp was out of tune quite frequently. After some discussion with my teacher she mentioned temperature and humidity as being primary factors. I have always kept the house "comfortable for a human" which I've often read is "comfortable for a harp" so the humidity became the prime suspect. I now monitor the humidity levels using this hygrometer so that I can nudge into the "comfortable" humidity range using a dehumidifier or humidifier as needed. It sounds high maintenance but harp strings are prone to break - some folks don't bat an eye if they lose 10-15 in a year and that adds up. My harp has only lost one string in almost two years! I'll have to replace them for sound quality before they actually fail. This has also helped me sleep better because when it's very dry at night it's rough on your sinuses. In the winter it can take only hours for forced-air heating to plunge the humidity into the 30s. It's easy to glance at the hygrometer and see if a little humidity or temperature adjustment will make you and your instruments more comfortable! ... show more

  • Fairly accurate for inside case measurements.
If you are concerned about humidity (or the lack thereof) affecting your guitars or cigars, you need to get something like this that is reliable, accurate and easy to use. It keeps track of the highest and lowest values. Batteries seem to last a long time. Slim design and light plastic might be fragile if improperly left inside an enclosure where it might get damaged. Batteries might be a little tricky to change. The screws to remove the back are very teeny-tiny. I am not overwhelmed by this product but I feel better knowing that I can at least establish a baseline and go from there. I am guessing accuracy is within ten to fifteen percent...close enough. This is meant to measure enclosed cases and not rooms or large open spaces. Comes with a metal clip and adhesive tape for mounting and Velcro for case attachment and restraint. Most experts say anything below 40% humidity could cause damage to fine quality instruments. This unit is affordable enough to own so you can sleep a little better at night knowing your nice Gibson acoustic guitar is not cracking and warping. I am glad I bought it. ... show more
