  • Finally, a very good non-serrated steak knife!
Style: Beech Block
We don’t particularly like serrated steak knives but trying to find decent, affordable non-serrated steak knives is tough. We have a large block Calphalon knife set that included 8 serrated steak knives and, while I feel they are a decent knife, we would have preferred non-serrated. After much looking and researching, we found this 8 piece Oaksware set and ordered it. The knives arrived individually wrapped with a boxed wooden block. The knives were not razor sharp, they were SCARY SCALPEL sharp. My finger lightly bumped into one and drew blood. So be very careful handling these when you get them. The blades are thinner than the hollow ground Calphalon steak knives so at first I thought the Oakswares were a cheap knife. Not true. They are an affordable, excellent quality knife, IMO. After a dozen uses, they are still very sharp but not scary sharp like when they first arrived. I had to chuckle a little because the instructions for use said something to the affect of do not use on stoneware or hard dishes and showed a picture of cutting a steak on a wooden cutting board. Well, I don’t know about you but I cut my steak on a plate, not on a cutting board. Maybe the company wants the knives to keep their sharpness? But the real world is the real world. To reiterate, the knives are still very sharp after a dozen uses even though I cut my steak and pork chops on our stoneware plates. While I like and recommend these knives, they would not fit into my Calphalon block. The blades are taller than the Calphalon steak knives so the slots in the block were too short and the Oakswares would not insert into the block all the way. I purchased a keyhole type saw and lengthened the slots a little and the Oakswares insert fully now. Being an average guy and unable (and unwilling) to spend hundreds of dollars on so called “top quality” knives, I find these Oaksware to be a really good choice. ... show more

  • nice quality, heavy, decent edge, surprising value - they're big
Style: Beech Block
> nice quality: smooth finish, well constructed, interesting finish on blade, handle smooth and comfortable > heavy: I would prefer a lighter, smaller knife but it's not enormous like some steakhouse knives > decent edge: pretty sharp and smooth out of the box but I used a ceramic hone stick to better smooth it > surprising value: I've been kinda studying knives, and the difference between these and high $$$ brands are pretty hard to distinguish (other than by name - nobody ever heard of oaksware!). My conclusion is, you can go for super hard steel, which will last longer but then require professional sharpening, or do like most chefs and use softer steel and keep it honed and occasionally sharpened. I don't know the steel grade on these but I expect it's of the latter variety, not so hard. But fact is we won't use them all that often so I'm OK with a bit of quick maintenance with a hone. Besides it's kinda fun, makes you feel like a pro! > the block is nice but we won't use it, keep them in a drawer ... show more

  • Great product and price! Overall quality is very high.
Style: Beech Block
The knives are impressively sharp and have a great feel and weight. The knives are larger so smaller hands may feel they are slightly oversized, but this does not detract at all from hiw well they cut! I have made sure to wash and dry them by hand after each use and not to let them sit with water or food on them based on the comments of other users. I have not seen any rust or discoloration and would certainly recommend them to anyone looking for a great set at a tremendous value! Be careful though they are sharp! ... show more

  • Very High Quality, But a Bit Heavy
Style: Beech Block
These are very nice knives and are certainly quality made, both overall and the stainless steel grade. They are a bit heavier and the handles are a bit larger than many families may like in the kitchen. They are more of a restaurant quality knife. The handles are fine for a man's hand, but a female may prefer a smaller handle. Their weight also make them a bit difficult to balance on a plate; you end up having to just put the blade on the plate and the handle on the table, or the whole thing on the table. They come very well sharpened and hold their edge nicely. I'm sure they will last a long time. But, we may look for something a bit easier to handle for the entire family. ... show more

  • What steak knife should be

Nice quality, heavy and very sharp.

  • Excellent knives
Style: Beech Block
great buy. razor sharp out of the box. I 'nicked' myself washing them the first time and it was a bleeder. I've had them 2 weeks. They're are impressive. I only gave them a 4 because the handle are too thick to fit into a typical knife block. I was replacing some older steak knives from a set and these wont fit in that block. thinner by a millimeter or two would do the trick... I might just sand them down, I don't need another block on my countertop. I wish the handle were slightly longer as well. blades are thin, that's a good thing. They're holding up in the dishwasher , so far. time will tell. ... show more

  • Exceptional knives
Style: Beech Block
Great, straight edge knives. Ive stuck to hand washing vs using the dish washer simply due to their CRAZY high sharpness. They have retained their edge well but when one of them went into the dish washer, it sliced through the latex coating on the dishrack. Overall great value, just keep in mind that as sharp as these are you need to be extra careful. ... show more

  • Great quality knives and well balanced weight
Style: Beech Block
Amazing stainless steel steak knives. I love these. You do need to wash them by hand and dry them quickly to stop any water marks but they cut through steak like butter. If they get dull I just resharpen them with a handheld knife sharpener in a few seconds. Nothing better than that smooth cut through a juicy steak 🥩 ... show more
