  • Whoever said you can't buy happiness doesn't own a Thread Checker.
Color: White
My girlfriend always makes fun of me for retreating to my shop to organize nuts and bolts. I do more than that out there but I must admit that I enjoy the collection of fasteners and knowing that they're all in their place in the cue to be used to save the day. Anyway, the product: Mine wasn't warped. I ordered it assuming it would be. It wouldn't have mattered but apparently S&W realized they had a problem and fixed it. Come on people. Screw it to the wall. It doesn't matter. It is a VERY well built product. The fit and finish is spectacular for something that really doesn't have to be. I respect that. The facing material was the biggest surprise. It's very glossy and should resist garden verity shop shmoo (hat tip AvE of You Tube fame) very well. Because it is over three feet long, none of the pictures you see of it really have the resolution necessary to see the crispness of the font and markings. The threads are smooth and well machined. No deburring or fiddling with needed. I usually think of some way to improve something. I'm at a loss on this one. I'd recommend it whole hardily and I will be buying more as gifts. Well done S&W. ... show more

  • Great tool, not made of wood.
Color: White
This is a good niche tool. I'm cleaning and organizing my shop, and in the process, I'm trying to recover and sort all the bolts and nuts and screws I've been finding. This is going to be instrumental in helping me sort them quickly. Some people have been down-rating the thread checker because its warped when it arrives. Honestly, that's some nonsense nitpicking. Yes, it may be warped, but once it's screwed to the wall (mine is going on the support post in my shop), the warping won't matter. From what I can tell, it's not made of wood. The back plate that the threads are mounted to is 0.46in/11.8mm thick. It appears to be some kind of thermoplastic, maybe HDPE or polystyrene. Using my soldering iron, it gets soft at 350*F, though I couldn't go lower so I couldn't find the exact glass transition point. It gets pretty melty in the 450*F neighborhood, then will start to yellow and char over 500*F. Cutting off a slice and hitting it with a blow torch (which I did before the soldering iron test) resulted in it just shrinking and burning though, I couldn't get it to maintain its own flame or drip so I thought it was originally a thermoset plastic. The text on the label appears to be applied to the backside, so the user-facing side protects it. I put a couple drops of B12 Chemtool (primarily acetone with some tolulene and 2-butoxyethanol) and wiped it off after 30 seconds and the plastic label didn't even get gummy and the text was untouched. The label is about 8 mil (0.008in) so it can tolerate some bumps and scrapes, but I don't imagine it'll withstand gouging with tools. So, just don't throw your tools and fasteners at it. The inserts feel solid. I couldn't find any wiggle in any of them. They are threaded in and they are inserted the full thickness of the back panel (~1/2"). I just got am M5 bolt jammed in one and when I used a screw driver to remove it, the insert threaded out. I grabbed it with a channel lock and removed the bolt, then threaded it back in. It looks like they used a little locktite, but this one didn't have much, so I applied more. This is a solid tool. In short, this thing should last a long time especially if its mounted up out of the way. ... show more

  • Great Product! They’ve Made Improvements!
Color: White
This is a great product that I’m sorry I did not have years ago. Makes it so easy to ID your threads & nuts. Initially I was a little doubtful, because some reviews said the product was warped, or that the threaded posts were bent. I’m here to tell you that the manufacturers must have listened to these reviews, and made improvements as to how this product is handled and shipped after production. When I received it from Amazon, it was triple boxed. The outside box contained a very rigid double box housing the product. This double box was made with thick, rigid cardboard and had nylon straps holding it all together. Almost a bit of a pain to open, but the product came out in perfect shape; no warping or bent posts! Beautiful with it’s red, white and blue colors. It has 3 mounting holes allowing you to mount it in near your bench. ... show more

  • You need this. Seriously.
Color: White
I had two of the counter top nut and bolt checkers that you’ll see at most hardware stores. Seems I never had a place to store those and were always a hassle to use. I bought a couple of these for friends several years ago and finally decided to pop for one myself. It’s well put together and that’s up zero table space in my shop, which is a huge bonus. I like that the SAE and metric fasteners are colored differently. I do wish that these had sizes up to 3/4” and 14mm like the counter top checkers I had. It’s a trade off I was willing to make for convenience sake. Now to have time to sort through that giant bin that’s been collecting miscellaneous fasteners for the last twenty years. Wanna help? 🤪 ... show more

  • Mine arrived in perfect shape; satisfied customer
Color: White
There are many reviews complaining of receiving bent products. Look at the date on those review. The company appears to have made changes. Mine arrived perfectly straight. If it shows up with slightly bent foam, maybe just hit it with your purse a few times. That ought to do it.

  • Love it
Color: White
I have this screwed to the wall of my barn, and use it a half dozen times a year - and it's great. It looks nice, and has a sufficient variety of male/female specimens for testing. Takes a lot of the guesswork out of selecting the right part. Note that the board is some sort of cheap fiberboard - this is not a slab of hard maple. But, it is stationary on the wall so I am not worried about it. If it got wet, it could rot, I suppose. ... show more

  • Pricey...Yep, But Just What I Needed
Color: White
So yes, I think this is slightly overpriced. But I really do like it so who knows. Contrary to some reviews, mine arrived with no defects. Is there a slight curve? Yes, but it is so small and why would it matter. It gets attached to the wall and barely needed any pressure to straighten out. Anyway, I love mine and have already put it to good use. Happy I got it. ... show more
