  • Good quality and workmanship
Style: Night Owl
Love this instrument, easier fingering than a recorder with just six holes and the tone is very wild/forest type tone. It's difficult for your lips to learn positioning to make a tone, but once you do its tribal time! Good build quality, soft pouch, and etching is cute.

  • Excellent Craftmanship
Style: Song of the Andes
This Peruvian Quena is very well made and has excellent aesthetics. The bone mouth piece is an ingenious feature, as it helps to preserve the instrument's integrity. The tuning of each note seems accurate, and the sound that comes from it is most pleasant. I have a few Quenas, but this one is now my best instrument. I feel that I can play much better, because of its consistent tones. ... show more

  • Cracked/different flute then in picture
Style: Song of the Andes
The flute cracked in the first 2 hrs of playing it. Also the one they shipped me is brown and i clicked on the tan one with a owl. The quality is nice if it wouldn’t have cracked.

  • Plays well, some cosmetic/design issues
Style: Night Owl
As can be seen in the photo, the notch in the mouthpiece area is off-center by a few degrees, and I thought initially that this might have caused some play difficulty, so I bought a quena from a different maker to compare them. Result: This quena actually plays quite a bit better than the other one for a comparable price, despite the other quena having a more consistent hole & notch placement. The only change is I have to hold the flute at a slight rotation to keep the notch in line with the embouchure. I would prefer to not have such an issue, at the very least for cosmetic reasons, but otherwise the flute plays nicely. As a plus, this one is also in better tune for all holes than the other quena, so I tend to play this one despite the notch issue. For sound quality and embellishment art I give it 5/5, but the notch is so far off that I have to take a star off. ... show more

  • these flutes make a lovely sound.
Style: Night Owl
Flute itself is beautiful. The sound is lovely. If you have never played any sort of flute, you may find it difficult at first. But there are several great YouTube videos on proper lip placement and how to practice. the sound is worth the practice. If you have played a western flute or a ditzi, you will have less trouble. Lip shape is sorta similar. I was able to get nice sounds in just a few minutes. relax. and practice. ... show more

  • Native nation flute
Style: Night Owl
The tone was good. The issue was that the one finger hole wasn't correct. This means that there are notes that I can not play because the pinkie finger whole was too far from the ring finger hole. It is frustrating and now I'm looking for a replacement. If you accept a return that would be good.

  • Best Quena I've Ever Played
Style: Song of the Andes
Physically beautiful, deep & accurate sounding, easiest to play. I already had what looks like the very same instrument, but without the bone mouthpiece. For some reason, the bone mouthpiece makes it easier to play, even though the holes, spacing, notch, diameter and length are identical.
