Description

Bass Station II. Bass Station II is an analog mono-synth with a talent for bass, but a sound-engine that is versatile enough to kick out sharp leads and crisp arpeggios. It brings the best elements of the original Bass Station into a brand new design with re-worked modulation, effects, filters and more; like the Bass Station, but much much bigger. The signal path is pure analog - including the effects section. The hardware has been laid out in modules with dedicated pots, switches, sliders and buttons for all major parameters. Critically, you can store and recall patches on Bass Station II. It comes with 64 killer factory presets, space for 64 of your own sounds on the hardware, and you can store more on your computer. The key-mechanism consists of 25 full sized keys that are velocity sensitive with assignable aftertouch. It has been developed as a ˜synth-action' keyboard, where each key is individually sprung so it is light to the touch and highly responsive to the synth engine. Bass Station II is a fully class compliant MIDI device with MIDI I/O on 5 pin din ports - for connecting to other MIDI outboard - and can interface with your computer over USB. The Synth Engine: A Brief Overview Oscillators: Bass Station II is built on three analog oscillators and a noise generator. There are two fully independent oscillators plus a sub oscillator (which is the critical component in creating rich, analog bass sounds). Oscillators One and Two are switchable between sine, sawtooth, square and variable pulse width, and Oscillator Three - the sub osc - can be set to one or two octaves below Oscillator One. It can be square, sine or narrow pulse width, delivering the characteristically ˜fat' bass tone. Filters: You can select between two discrete filters - ˜Acid' or ˜Classic' - each with a built in overdrive for pushing filter tones from dry, to warm, to nasty! The ˜Classic' Bass Station filter can be switched between low pass, high pass and band pass at 12 or 24dB slopes. Th...

  • So good
Color: Black
This synth is changing everything for me. It's my first "real" synth. I've been using software / vst synths for a while now and what really blows me away is how much better this sounds. I try to make my own unique sounds for each new track, normally I spend DAYS searching for and tweaking my bass tone... the very first thought thru my head when I listened to the first few patches was "Oh, this is going to be easy!" This is an analog synth, says it right on the front (lol that was a joke) but there's a lot of 'people' who want to say it's not. Just do your own research, you can start by reading about oscillators, then read about NCOs and DCOs (numerically and digitally controlled oscillators), when I did this I thought I'd actually rather have DCOs anyhow. There were some cool little things I didn't expect too, they took the black and blue theme all the way, the underneath of the BS2 is completely blue and it comes with a blue USB cord, this is actually kinda handy when you have a bazillion cables connected to your computer. It even comes with a full size (8.5x11 inch) manual with a cover printed in color. I felt like I was buying music gear from the 80's. All the knobs feel great with a nice amount of drag and the switches don't stick when you want to slide them (if you know what I mean). You can see the threaded nuts under the pots. The Pitch and Modulation wheels are rubberized and have good action. I love this synth so much I'll probably buy the carrying bag that I don't need for it. Not a total fan, there's some things I wish were different. The keys are pretty cheap, my M-Audio Axiom controllers have much better action (they are also synth weighted). The case of the keyboard is at the same level height as the keys, what makes this bad is that if you have long fingernails, and you play the keys (I use my Push2 to play it) you are bound to break them on the case like I did. I really (really) wish there were a desktop version of this, I would snap that up in an heartbeat! This came out a few years ago, I'm late to the game, but I did a lot of reading and shopping, I can tell that a lot of the reviews are from before the firmware update. Novation really provided some awesome support on this update, here's some info: - Implemented new patch format (version 2) with support for patch name - Improved output jitter, jittery pots/faders, phantom data - Improved tempo detection and lock on - Fixed MIDI DIN SysEx output issue - Arp Rhythm, Arp Pattern and Arp Octaves/Seq now light "value changed" arrows - Added text for Arp Pattern modes - Added new mode for Arp->MIDI ("Out"), MIDI->Arp ("In ") using Function+Arp Latch button - Added ability to send MIDI CLOCK/START/STOP using Function+Arp On button One last thing if you have Ableton/Max for Live, be sure to check out the Max for Live Library, there's some good devices there for controlling and automating your BS2. ♥ ... show more

  • I love my Novation Bass Station II
Color: Black
I am writing this review after having purchased it in July of 2020. Oh boy, am I in love with my Bass Station II! Every time I turn it on and listen to its sound, I am taken away from day to day life. Hear me out! I understand this is a monotone analog synthesizer. But the richness! The beauty of the sound! It's so crisp and amazing. This was the first synthesizer I've ever used. I was inspired by DeadMau5 Master Class on EDM, and, after his lessons on analog vs digital synths, I immediately bought this beautiful instrument. Why is this instrument so great? The useability! The cutoff filter, arguably one of most enjoyable dials on any synth, is well-built and well crafted. It responds well to the touch and allows wonderful expressiveness of analog sounds. Wherever I bring my synth, I always have people asking about it. I love it! How about everything else? I'll tell you what... I love to unintentionally play with sounds to see what I can come up with. The ease of changing envelopes, tone, and understanding what you're doing while you're doing it is GREAT on this synth. First synth? This is a great start. Do you own a music shop and want a GREAT new resident synth? This is your addition. I love my Bass Station II, I have a special bond with this synth as it's my first! If you get this device, I hope you find great joy with it as I have. ... show more

  • Amazing Starter Mono Synth
Color: Black
I did a bunch of research on synths as it's something I've wanted to get into for awhile. Everywhere I turned people kept recommending this. I figured I would give it a shot and I'm glad I did. PLEASE: If you're interested in synths, do research on Mono, Poly, FM, Hybrid, Analog and Digital (there's gotta be more but that's a start). If you're wanting to do a lot of pad sounds or poly synth sounds, this is not for you. If you want to play synth lines that are in a lot of songs, please look into a poly. But if you're looking for a Mono, you can't go wrong here. This thing is capable of so many sounds and the sound is THICK. It's amazing what this thing is able to produce. So many features included with it too. You'll have hundred of hours playing with this thing and you'll be scratching the surface. Also, Novation is an amazing company and stand behind their products and continually give updates to them so even though this is now an older piece of equipment, it's still very in the loop of things. ... show more
