Let's clear the air for those who seem to be confused about the design goal/purpose "Nothing Ear (Open)", these are 'Specialty' EarBuds. They're optimized for Maintaining SA (Situational Awareness) while delivering clear & excellent audio w/o blocking ANY outside sound. It's PURPOSELY designed to not seal your ear canal or be inserted into your ears; that's BY DESIGN! Go watch the original YT videos about these and why they were created, the CEO of 'Nothing' explains what problems they were designed to solve. So anybody telling you that you have to insert these into your ear canals are HIGHLY misinformed as to their design goals & usage. You ARE SUPPOSED to leave them hanging right outside of the ear canals, you ARE "NOT supposed to insert them into your ear" for ANY reason. If you want EarBuds that seal your ear canals, "Nothing" offers other EarBuds for those purposes, please go look at them. Now, lets get back to the review. I'm coming from using the "Nothing Ear Stick". Those were good EarBuds that mimiced the design of the original Apple AirPods. Those still touched the openings in your ear and sealed the larger openings right outside w/o any silicone being shoved into the smaller ear openings. For me, that blocked out too much noise for my tastes, I wanted MORE SA (Situational Awareness). I don't want audio Transparency Modes, I just wanted the real thing; w/o lag from the EarBuds internal processing. This literally solves that problem for me and does a great job at it. The Battery life is pretty good. Initial tests in phone calls led to good Battery Usage. 15% Ear Open Power ~= 1.0 hr Talk Time. Reaching the Marketing Claims of 8 hr per Ear Open unit seems very realistic w/o recharging. Pure PodCast Listening is easier on the batteries, I'm able to get many hours w/o having to charge the Ear Opens. I've only drained the case battery down to 65% despite having over 8 hours of podcast listening + Long conversations over the phone. I haven't recharged it after the initial charge to full for the case + Ear Opens. BTW, I got these 2 days before the official Release Date of Sep 30. I got them on Sep 28, thanks Amazon! So I've got extra time to use them. This marks the First Week of using them during my Every Day routines. Comfort wise, I LOVE it, the Audio Drivers sit right outside your Ear, nothing gets shoved into the larger or smaller orifices in your ear. I can hear everything around me & maintain SA. Nobody seems to be able to hear what's being broadcasted as well, if they really wanted to hear something, their ear has to be right next to your Ear Opens. At that point, you've got other issues if somebody has their ears so close that your heads are about to collide. So far, I'm loving my first week of using these Ear Opens, I like them more than my Ear Sticks, which were already excellant. While driving the audio quality is clearer & louder, despite not having any seal into my ear, and I can hear everything around me as well. So it solves my problem of maintaining SA while out about on the street, or while driving. Audio call quality is pretty good, nothing to write home about. It's clear enough, but don't expect it to mimic any professional level microphones. It's good enough for it's class of EarBuds, especially at it's price. There is a small rattle in the case, I wish there was something they could do to solve that. I'll improvise a solution in the mean time. Over-All, these are AWESOME EarBuds. I definitely recommend the "Nothing Ear Open" for those who want to maintain SA (Situational Awareness) while out & about doing every day routines or working or driving around.

These might be the most comfortable earbuds I've ever had. They tuck most of the weight/pressure behind the ear, which gives a really transparent feeling. It's better than clip-on designs, which hang off the side of the ear. These are slightly heavier than clip-ons, but because of their placement, it actually feels less noticeable. These also stay much more secure, because of the earhooks holding everything in place. What I like about it is that the main body of the bud is smaller than on a lot of competitors, like the Shokz Openfit (comparison photo added). There's less weight, so when you turn your head, the buds don't generate any inertia. Turning your head with Shokz give the feeling like they're about the fall out, while these sit tight. The body is smaller, so it touches less of your skin, and feels more like there's nothing on your ear at all. As far as I can tell, the Nothing (open) seems to have the smallest earbud body out of any open earbud design. The disc seems to sit further away from the ear canal than clip-ons and other open designs as well. The effect that this has is to increase peripheral hearing, since incoming sounds are less likely to be blocked by the earbuds. That plus the low weight and good location makes for a very transparent feeling listening experience. The battery life is good, about 8 hours, which about is the usual. The earbuds are color coded to their spot in the charging case. One minor oversight on an otherwise well designed charging case: while a cord is in the charging port, the case doesn't fully open. Other than that, the case is a highlight of the product. The sound quality is good, not excellent. For better sound quality in an open earbud, you'd want a clip-on design, like the Baseus Inspire XC1, which has a similar price point to the Nothing (open). But then again, if you want truly good sound quality, you'd go for IEMs or proper over-ear headphone. These aren't too bad, and the EQ can be adjusted in the app, but those who prefer lots of bass might be left wanting. My one major design complaint is that the cylinder at the end of the earhooks really doesn't need to exist. It's a hard chunk of plastic, and as far as I can tell, it doesn't do anything, but it applies an every so slight amount of increased weight and pressure. The (open) is comfortable, but it could be more comfortable if those tabs were shrunken down or removed. All in all a solid earbud with a great visual design, clever sound cues to indicate device state (beeps and boops on connection/disconnect, rather than spoken phrases), and quick and responsive multipoint. Though for all its good points, I'd give it a skip if you need proper waterproofing, strong bass, or the best possible sound quality.

After buying the Shokz line of BC bands for a decade now, with a nearly complete list of their BC products save for the OpenFit, OpenSwim, and OpenComm, I decided I wanted to try something else after the latest generation, the OpenRun Pro 2, failed to keep up with the durability of previous BC bands; I got a warranty claim for failed volume/power buttons, and the replacement has also begun to fail. I've only had these for about twelve hours, but so far I have some very positive first impressions, especially with the control format. Audio quality put of the box is comparable to, I'd say the third generation Trekz/OpenRun band that was the first to ditch the diaphragm design for a solid exciter bulb, and that's more than enough. If I want higher quality, I have a set of CrinEar Reference on a FiiO UTWS5 to swap over to, my open ear headsets are for literally any other time when I can't afford to isolate myself. As always with me, I'm actually going to call the TWS setup a negative. Maybe this is a surprise to some, but a big part of why I like my bone conduction bands so much is because they are a single piece; they can't shake out, they can only be lost in their entirety, they don't need to take up pocket space, the internal battery is big enough I never have to think about charging them beyond the time I spend in the morning cleaning up, they're just convenient. The TWS format doesn't have that convenience, and in my experience, more than some of the time they'll desync from each other, leaving them playing completely out of time, or leaving one disconnected entirely. But this is an issue I have with this specific type of wireless device as a whole, Nothing™ can't help that they have to create devices that fit within the market trend if they want to sell. The factory charge was at 90%, and I drained that using them like sleep buds. They lasted a very long time, I didn't get an exact runtime, but they didn't make it through the night. Though, the control format really came in strong here; they don't have a physical button, nor a touchpad, which meant my pillow couldn't press them and I couldn't swipe them with a hand by accident. Instead, the control is a single, slightly countersunk capacitive point on the top of the speaker unit, that you can only trigger by pushing a finger into the hole; Due to this, there were NO accidental toggles through the night. They did stay on without any discomfort as well, even when laying on my side and shoving them into my ear, I barely felt it. I was never able to do this with my Shokz because of the physical buttons in blatant positions, so this is a positive change from my norm. The speaker units stick quite far out in the ear cavity, this is honestly the reason why I took a star off. Unlike my BC bands of years past, this does actually impact my hearing, going from as open as if I'm wearing nothing(not even the brand) to ever so slightly muffled. I'd wear my Shokz EVERYWHERE before, including while driving, because of the fact that they did not impact my hearing at all, but these, I feel like they may be a little more situational, I'm not yet sure I'd be comfortable wearing these while driving, but I will see how that pans out in time. Honestly, for the price, for the flexibility, for the comfort, as much as I've been a Shokz brand loyalist for years, these are looking pretty hard to beat, at least by first impressions. Yes, ckmpared to a BC band, they do have two major downsides, but one (the TWS) is a nothing burger to many people, and the other (the openness) is really comparing a watermelon to an apple, bigger speaker unit firing right into the ear versus smaller speaker unit vibrating in front.

They fit, the battery is great and sound is decent all in an extremely elegant design. But there are a few issues. One I found the audio to not reach good clarity at louder volumes on runs, minor and acceptable. But the two biggest are the charging pins and pairing button. After not even a year of use, the charging pins due to pad design start to get stuck from what I assume is minor debris. This causes the ear buds to either not charge or not connect when taken out the case. The other issue is that the pairing button also got jammed stuck and even pressing down with the end of a pen doesn’t activate it meaning it’s stuck only paired to my watch for running and no longer my new phone. When I contacted nothing support, I got some of the most useless and annoying customer support. When I told them the issues, they suggested to send pictures and clean debris (no duh). After I told them that I already did and even used sharp tweezers to try and pluck out the charging pins so it can charge, they said they’d accept a warranty claim on the conditions: I pay for shipping, they repair it (which for something so small I’d assume they’d just replace it anyways so they should just send in a replacement case of pair all together), and if they find the “damage” caused by me then I’d be charged for any repairs. Ofc they are going to look at the scuffed plastic around the charging pins because I was trying to get the pin to stick out and then say I caused the damage. Meanwhile I had an issue with the charging case on a set of open earbuds from a different company and all I did was file a claim, give them the serial number and they sent the replacement pair free of charge no questions asked. Because of this, I am giving them 3 stars. It’d be 4.7 ish stars (minus 0.3 for the bad quality and high volume) if they had an actual customer support that supported customers.

I saw the deluge of videos on these once they were announced, and they did not disappoint. These are my first open earbuds, so I have nothing in this category to compare with. However, these made a huge positive first impression on me coming from the sealed in-ear Pixel Buds Pro (I never really used the ANC on them anyways – they were in Transparency mode most of the time). They're plenty loud for me. The sound quality is good for what these are. There's an objective amount of detail that's lost due to the open design, but these are impressive for what they've accomplished. Just to try it out, I tried pushing the driver closer to my ear canal with my fingers, and the deeper bass and cleaner sound was a lot more evident. At their default volume (about half) they may have even been a bit too loud, so my regular listening volume is at the lowest setting (I've yet to try them in a noisy environment, though). I can hear everything around me in a similar way that the Buds Pro had its Transparency mode, except I don't have something shoved directly into my ear opening. Which leads to the next point – comfort and longevity are the reason I wanted to move to open buds. I can wear these for hours at a time and barely notice they're there. It's not an unlimited amount of time, but it's much longer than I can sustain in-ear buds. They're not imperceptible, but you have to be conscious of them to notice you're wearing them. Sure they might be a little dorky looking, but that goes for just about any buds in this style. They have the Nothing touch, so I think they hold their own in terms of design which is a good thing. Nothing has been killing it in terms of their industrial design. I'd love to rock one of their phones but they only come in XL sizes. There is a bit of a delay with the touch controls, but that's probably to prevent accidental touches. The pressure required to activate the squeeze controls. Some of them are mixes of multiple taps and holds, which is probably another reason for the delay. They're customizable through the Nothing X app, which you have to download onto your device. The options are adequate and I've customized them from default, and placed the Assistant gesture on the right bud. In terms of their size, the case looked huge when I saw it in videos. It's not small by any means but it is smaller than I expected. If there was something I could change about these, it would all be in the case. A more compact size (similar to the Soundcore AeroFit) and wireless charging would be nice. The packaging is pretty minimal, but it comes with all you need. They're fully charged out of the box, you get a charging cable and some reading material. There is a firmware update available once you get them connected to the app. For some reason when I first paired them to my phone, only the left bud connected. After putting them back in the case and long pressing the button on the case, all was good to go. Then I was able to proceed with the firmware update. Earlier I mentioned that my regular listening volume is at the lowest, but once they're disconnected and reconnected they go back to their default volume. I need to determine if this is a phone thing or a buds thing (I haven't found any indication there's a setting for it in the Nothing X app). That about sums up my experiences in the hours that I've had these. I'll be updating this review if my impressions change, and I'm overall happy with my first Nothing purchase.

After using them for a few days, here’s some key notes that are worth considering: • These are not designed to sit in your ear, and it may take time getting used to that. • Battery life may vary, depending on features enabled on your phone. • Sound quality will be affected by the environment, since your ears remain open (which is how this is designed to fit). To be fair, I’ve used these in environments that have a lot of ambient noise. The ambient sounds do mess with my ability to hear music, but I’m still not fully adjusted to the design of these buds. However, these are the first open-ear buds I’ve tried. For sound quality, I have to say these are great. Compared to the CMF buds, the only difference I’ve heard was the EQ. The CMF buds are some of the highest quality buds I’ve tried, and the Nothing Ear (open) matches that quality. Not only that, you’ll be able to hear your surroundings without removing them. Since they sit on your ear to leave it open, you’ll have no problems hearing what people try to tell you. If you’re trying to ignore someone, just use normal earbuds. On iOS devices, the battery lasts around 6-7 hours on a single charge, with the case extending it up to 30 hours. This is with Cross Fade enabled, while looping through a playlist. The Nothing X app is finicky, but we aren’t here to talk about the app. We’re here to talk about the hardware. Overall, I think these are the perfect pair of buds (especially for people with ADHD or potential hearing issues). As someone with both ADHD and slight hearing issues, I can’t recommend these enough. Great value, for the price tag *TLDR; I did purchase this product during a sale, but I would still recommend these buds. They work very well, they fit comfortably (once you get used to them), and you can still connect them without the app. The app is mostly for EQ & control customization. Sound quality may be affected by environment, but it still shines with high quality sound. Lastly, the battery lasts long enough for your everyday needs.

Overall these are excellent earbuds for daily wear. They don't get too loud so it doesn't ever feel like I'm blasting sound into my ears but it produces clear audio especially for voices which is what I use it for. Very rarely do I use them to listen to music but when I have most of the music made it through minus some frequencies that are a bit lower depending on the music. The controls are great, I rarely accidentally "squeeze" them. When taking them off or putting them on it's easy to grab them, and they only really move so much I almost always put them on with very little effort or adjusting. The few downsized are they generally are comfortable except when I have sunglasses or safety glasses on. Where glasses sit on the ear they either press down on the plastic embedding it into the ear or push them aside making the fit uncomfortable. The other is just that if I have them on and no audio is coming through, I'll forget they are on. Take off your shirt with them on and they'll randomly fly in either direction. Also the fit never really "feels" secure mainly because they don't really attach to the ear canal, just hover over it. You can manipulate the bigger end and push it so it friction fits near the base of your ear lobe, but eventially will loosen and you get what you get. It's not a deal breaker but I'd like to see how some of the competitors fit. Overall I'm starting to like these much more than in ear. For music I'll stick to over the ear but for daily use listening to mainly podcasts and audiobooks these are great.
