Description

Continuing the renowned legacy of Noctua’s NH-U9 series, the NH-U9S is a premium quality quiet CPU cooler in classic 9cm size. Its asymmetrical design with 5 heatpipes not only provides even better cooling performance than the previous generation but also improves compatibility: Thanks to its 95x95mm footprint, the NH-U9S clears the RAM and PCIe slots on all Intel and most AMD based mainboards, including µATX and ITX. Combined with its 125mm height, this makes the NH-U9S a highly versatile solution with excellent case, RAM and PCIe compatibility. The included NF-A9 premium fan supports automatic speed control via PWM for outstanding quietness of operation and a second, optional NF-A9 fan can be added for further improved performance in dual fan mode. Topped off with the trusted, pro-grade SecuFirm2 multi-socket mounting system and Noctua’s proven NT-H1 thermal compound, the NH-U9S is a deluxe choice through and through. S version with better compatibility Like its bigger brothers NH-U12S and NH-U14S, the NH-U9S features a revised, slimmer layout: Whereas the NH-U9B SE2 was 120mm deep with its two stock fans, the NH-U9S is asymmetrically built and measures only 95mm with its single, more efficient NF-A9 fan, thus providing better performance and compatibility at the same time. 100% RAM compatibility With its 95x95mm footprint, the NH-U9S does not overhang the RAM slots on current Intel and most AMD mainboards. This gives the user full access to the memory modules and guarantees 100% compatibility with tall heatspreaders or optional memory fans. 100% compatibility with PCIe cards on mini-ITX Many Intel LGA115x based mini- ITX mainboards have the PCIe slot sitting right next to the 95x95mm socket zone. While larger coolers that exceed this zone are likely to block the PCIe slot, the 95x95xmm sized NH-U9S provides full compatibility with PCIe cards, be it on ATX, microATX or ITX. NT-H1 thermal compound Noctua’s much-acclaimed NT-H1 is a pro-grade TIM solution that provides minimum thermal resistance, excellent ease of use and outstanding reliability. Chosen again and again by overclockers and enthusiast users worldwide, it has established itself as a benchmark for premium-quality thermal compounds. • Super quiet. Beautiful.
Installed two of them in separate machines. No problems. Tested with some CPU/GPU intensive games like Satisfactory. I can participate in Zoom meeting without someone noting the racing fan. Lovely cooler. I'm hooked.

  • Awesome
Easy install. Quiet and keeps my Ryzen 5600X cool. Never goes over 41c w/heavy gaming and idles 29c/31c inside a mid ATX case at room temp of 76f. I'm using 2 90mm fans in a push/pull set up. Very happy with the product.

  • Cool experience
This solution replaced the oem fan and heat sink that came with my intel 2600k chip & cooler. Installed easy and cooled great. I haven't tried any OC'ing but you never know.

  • Keeps the PC cool and noise is minimal
It took me a while to install the cooler because my PC did not have access to the back of the motherboard and i bought some screws to remedy that portion. With that in mind the cooler is easy to install and there was plenty of thermal paste to use as i had to switch the airflow direction 2 times. It runs quiet and i have another 2 Noctua fans in my PC and they are all great. ... show more

  • Easy to install in HP AMD AM4 prebuilts like the TG01-0023W using M3x20mm screws and washers
Just a couple of tips for anyone who wants to use this CPU cooler in a prebuilt HP PC with an AMD AM4 processor (for example, a TG01-0023W with a Ryzen 5 3500 or Ryzen 7 3700x CPU): The NH-U9S can be installed without removing the backplate from the TG01's motherboard, but you'll need to supply your own screws and washers to attach the Noctua mounting bars. Note that the TG01 uses an Intel 1151-style cooler mount, so use Noctua's black plastic spacers and the Intel mounting bars. Use four M3x20mm screws, four M3 lock washers, and four M3 flat washers to secure the mounting bars and spacers to the motherboard. You can get the screws and washers at a hardware store, or order a metric assortment from Amazon; I bought ASIN:B09GRJKLHC. Compared to the stock HP cooler, the Noctua keeps my 3700x around 5-10C cooler. At 100% CPU the temps don't exceed 78C. The TG01's case has poor airflow; in a case with better ventilation the temps would likely be lower. There's plenty of clearance between the top of the NH-U9S's fin stack and the case's side panel. The cooler also doesn't obstruct the memory slots. Overall, the NH-U9S is probably overkill for the TG01-0023W unless you're doing stuff that routinely pushes your CPU utilization to 100%. However, it's an easy upgrade and provides meaningful improvement compared to HP's stock cooler, especially under high CPU utilization. ... show more

  • Great cooler for a small case, and even keeps up with my previous AIO with less room for airflow
Before I start the review, I want to list the components I have installed in my computer: Case: Silverstone GD08 Motherboard: Gigabyte GA X99 Ultra Gaming CPU: Intel Core i7 5820K @3.3GHz RAM: 16GB (4x4) Corsair Vengeance LPX GPU: Gigabyte G1 Gaming GTX 1070 Boot SSD: Samsung 960 EVO 250GB Gaming SSD: Mushkin Reactor 1TB HDD: 3x WD Red 4TB Bluray Drive: Asus BW-16D1HT Bluray Drive: LG WH16NS40 For the last few years, I've had a large case (Fractal Define XL R2) sitting on our TV stand. It was an eyesore to have sitting out under the TV (beautiful case, but ugly in the living room), but it was incredibly spacious with great cable management, and housed all of my components with no issues. In that case, I was using an ARCTIC Liquid Freezer 240 to keep my CPU cool. The computer is a work horse (gaming, video encoding, Plex server, etc.), so having a quality CPU cooler is a must. I was finally able to find a quality case that would fit all of my components while fitting in to the TV stand, and also blending in (SilverStone GD08B). However, the smaller case meant that I would no longer be able to use a 240mm cooler for my CPU. It's HTPC form factor also limited my choices for a new cooler because of its height limitations. I did a great deal of research on low height coolers, and finally settled on the NH-U9S. I knew I wasn't going to get the same cooling performance I got with my AIO, and I knew the air flow in the new case was not going to be great with the number of drives in place. I was maxing out at about 62°C under full load with my old setup. Installation of the heatsink was incredibly easy; I was done in less than five minutes. Once I got everything installed in the new case and fired it up, I immediately saw an increase in idle temps. Where I was getting 28°C-35°C before, I was now seeing 39°C at the low end, but averaging in the low 40s at idle. Not great, but expected. Once I started encoding my first video, I saw temps shoot up to the high 70s, and reaching into the low 80s at some points, which was less than ideal. But, I knew the tradeoffs with the new setup, and it was still in the safe range, so I was ready to deal with it. I decided to try and manually adjust the fan speeds and curves to try to improve the cooling a bit, so I went into my bios and looked at the fan setup. For some reason, it was reporting my CPU fan at 0RPM, no matter how I adjusted it. So I cracked the case open, expecting that I did something stupid like I forgot to plug in the header, and found out that one of my SATA cables was stopping the fan (anyone who has used the GD08 with both optical drive bays and SSDs installed knows that cable management is tough). So i pushed it back, and the fan started spinning again. I booted back into Windows to see if that made a difference. Sure enough, I was now seeing idle temps down in the mid 30s (I set up the fan curves to run at 20% even at idle). Major difference. I saw even more improvements under load. I've been encoding for the last 4 and half hours (95-100% load the whole time), and the CPU has been sitting in the mid 60s for the most part, with only one core hitting 70°C at max (but averaging around 68°C). So in other words, without a fan on this heatsink, my CPU was kept under or at 80°C under full load, and now I'm seeing just a few degrees more than I was with my old AIO. I may even be able to (very moderately) overclock my CPU even in the new case. I am incredibly happy with how well this cooler is working out, considering the space limitations I was working with and the limited airflow inside the case due to how much I've crammed in there. I would definitely recommend this cooler for anyone looking for a low height or small form factor cooler. ... show more
