I've used the Coolermaster Hyper Evo 212 for years. If you've used a Coolermaster you know how HARD and frustrating mounting it can be, and how you worry it is seated properly, and whether or not it is too tight on your CPU. It is also better done as a two man job! This Noctua CPU cooler is the only one you will ever need, the one I've used now on my last three builds, and the only air cooler I'll use in the future. If you know Noctua fans you know they are nothing short of amazing and engineered like nothing else. This CPU cooler is so well made, so easy to install, and works so well, every other company should just get out of the air CPU cooling market!!! The bracket and install is almost as easy as a stock Intel CPU fan, but it works so much better and is so much quieter. I've used this cooler in two different sizes (NH-U12S) & (NH-U14S) and cannot recommend it highly enough.     • Support with AM4 Motherboards are falsely advertised out of the box?

For this review, my cooler is being used with the MSI MPG X570 Gaming PRO Carbon WiFi motherboard and the Ryzen 9 3900X CPU. ---- Update #1: So as stated by my old review, mounting brackets does not align properly with MSI MPG X570 Gaming PRO Carbon WiFi motherboard out of the box (as seen in the image). You will need to go to Noctua's site and request a "NM-AM4 kit" in order for you to mount the CPU cooler on this motherboard (or any AM4 most likely). You will need the AM4 Motherboard invoice and the invoice of the CPU cooler in order for them to send you the mounting kit free of charge (it will take maybe 2 weeks with both processing and shipping). Tip: If you plan on ordering this cooler and want to use this on a AM4 motherboard. Order the motherboard, cooler and once done, go to the Noctua's site and request the AM4 kit. If not, you're trying to build everything once everything comes in might, you will most likely won't be able to build your PC for about 2 weeks (unless you want to pay expedited shipping for the kit). Update #2: Noctua's Support replied back to me and they said my CPU cooler box didn't include the NM-AM4 kit was because it's only for the 2019 products/boxes, the third-party seller didn't inform me whether the product it was the 2018 or 2019 product. So without telling me (and probably many others) and instead of sending me the newest 2019 product, the third-party seller falsely sold me the 2018 NH-U12S product that somehow they had still had at their warehouse. Tip: Don't order from third-party sellers, order from Amazon directly to avoid this issue. ---- Older review: As seen by attachments this cooler was advertised to fit AM4 motherboards/sockets and it doesn't align properly. The "AMD Set" that comes with the mounting bars are missing the other screw thread by almost a half of an inch. ... show more

    • Quiet and effective
I replaced all the stock fans in my case and my stock CPU cooler. My first impression was "this is a lot quieter." The processor appears cooler but I didn't record good numbers before I change the CPU cooler. My gut feeling is about 15c cooler. What I have noticed is (1) that my computer seems faster; supporting my belief that the processor was throttling and (2) I've noticed that the air coming out he back of my case feels warmer. These observations indicate that the stock cooler was doing very little cooling and the processor was simply avoiding getting warm by slowing itself down a lot. I'm done with stock coolers and am now a Noctua fan. (No really, that pun wasn't intended but once I saw it, I decided to keep it.) Installation was fairly simple but I'm someone who reads the instructions and takes his time. In my case, I had to remove my motherboard from the case because the backplane was being held on by the old stock cooler. That wasn't difficult and was the hardest part. But before I go, one last message. If you haven't applied cooling paste before (and it is included), watch some videos on how to correctly apply paste. While I was fine, I've heard horror stories from people who applied too much paste (and used a different kind that was conductive). It did not go well for their motherboard after that. So, watch the videos or get help from someone who knows how to apply paste. And this time the pun is intended -- I'm now a Noctua fan. (Perhaps we should form a club...The Noctua Fans Club...) ... show more

I purchased this cooler to replace an failing stock Dell cooler in a T1600 system. Noctua does not recommend their coolers in Dell, HP, and ASUS pre-built systems like the Dell T1600, but I was fairly confident that this product would work. A 5-pin to 4-pin PWM adapter was needed since Dell uses proprietary 5-pin headers (Thanks Dell...). The adapter was $7 from "Tech Gears 4 Me" seller. Works 22-100-25 4-Pin To Dell Proprietary 5-Pin Cable Adapter, 9.8 in. Long . Two adapters were purchased to connect the case exhaust and Noctua fans. The BIOS does not complain at all and registers the RPM's of the fan. My system is running Ubuntu Server 16.04.1 LTS. This is an impressive cooler. At 100% CPU (Intel Xeon E3-1270, quad core) load for days, the system maintains a steady 50C temperature. There is even an option to mount a second fan (model NF-F12) on the back for a push-pull configuration. My build uses an ATX case from Corsair (500R) and the cooler is perfectly level with case exhaust fan. The top of the radiator leaves just enough clearance within the case, no issues with memory or anything else. I wonder how my system stayed cool with such a skimpy stock cooler. I highly recommend this cooler for anyone needing a quiet, high quality air cooler for their system. As an added bonus, everything you need for the install is included: thermal compound, phillips driver, adapters, extra fan mounts, and even printed install instructions.
