Very large, quiet CPU cooler
I bought this S version in hopes of being able to add another fan onto it as the NH-D15 was sold out almost everywhere. Where it wasn't they were charging 1.5x or double its value. I put this on my new Ryzen 7 3700X and it's done a fantastic job even with one fan. I made sure the GPU and CPU cooler were within specifications for my case. Everything fit as is but I was unable to add a second fan to the cooler which I had ordered with the cooler itself. It provides you with extra mounting clips and everything you need to add a second fan to this cooler. But when I went to add the second fan onto the cooler, it would not fit as my RAM got into the way. My ram isn't high profile in my opinion but if I add the fan, I would not be able to put my PC case side back on. The second fan stuck out maybe a half inch to far to let my side to be put back on. Now I either have an extra fan for replacement or I can return the fan I bought to add. As far as cooling goes, with just this single fan it does a fantastic job. My 10 year old PC with a quad core CPU and its cooler would idle around 40-50C as the area in my room that my desk and PC sit stays a little warmer than the rest of the room. Probably because its where all my electronics are at. ie PC, xbox one x, tv, satellite dish unit and bluray dvd player. This cooler on my Ryzen 7 3700X under a stress test of 100% load via Cinebench only got up to 63C with it being around 24C (70-75 Fahrenheit) ambient temperate in my room. I've read a lot of conflicting claims stating the Ryzen series doesn't get hot enough to warrant the need for the Noctua coolers but I didn't care, I wanted to make sure 100% that I'd be getting boosted speeds as much as possible and not have to worry about CPU throttling or over heating. I believe it will help the lifespan of my CPU keeping it as cool as possible. This does take up a huge amount of space in my case but I ordered a full size tower which had plenty of room for everything and then some. I may down the road try to find smaller profile RAM that will let me install the second fan if I don't decide to send it back for the $20 refund. I did have very little trouble installing the cooler itself. For AMD motherboards you have to take of the stock pretensioner and install the provided one. The back plate fell out a little after I removed the stock screws but was easily put back in place. I was able to install it with my graphics card already installed and the motherboard installed in my case. It was a little tight but doable. It is hard to get the screws started as they have spring tension on them. So you will have to get one screw started, then press down on the cooler and press down on the other screw to get it started. It is a little tricky but doable with one person. This was the hardest part in the whole installation for me. I've never used aftermarket coolers prior to installing this one. If you want maximum airflow and want to keep your CPU the coolest possible with an air flow CPU cooler, this is definitely worth it. I don't have any experience with any other cooler so I can't really compare it to any other aftermarket cooler but I've watched a lot of videos of the comparison and this Noctua is almost always on top of any list.

Cools my 3900x like a champ
I needed a new heatsink to prevent my Ryzen 9 3900x's temperatures from spiking to dangerous levels and forcing my PC to shutdown. I need heatsink that would be able to fit in my system which has a 2080 Super right below the CPU sock and clear my G.Skill RAM which is a bit taller than average RAM, so a second fan wouldn't be ideal. Suffice to say, the NH-D15S met my needs perfectly. Noctua includes instructions and kits for the most common CPU sockets today, both AMD and Intel. Installing the bracket was incredibly easy and the instructions were very clear as to where the screws went (and there weren't many). Attaching the heatsink to the bracket was intimidating because it requires more pressure than you'd expect. It was a bit of a fight to put it in place! But aside from the pressure needed, the process was straightforward, I never had to go back and redo anything. Once it was in, it was in, no more fuss. Clipping the fan on was extremely easy too. The NH-D15S is shaped slightly differently than the NH-D15. Noctua's description of the NH-D15S suggests this is for maximum compatibility and I can attest that the form allows it to nicely fit amongst other large components. There's ample clearance between the NH-D15S and the RAM and the 2080 Super, though plugging in the CPU power cable was a bit tough due to the bulk of the heatsink's fins. But I assure you that bulk is 100% worth it. My 3900x's temperatures are phenomenal and seldom approach even 75 degrees celsius under full load at 4.2 GHz. The 140mm fan is exceptionally quiet, I have to listen really hard to hear it at all in most conditions. I have no regrets saving $10 and choosing this over the NH-D15, this heatsink is the quality I'd expect from Noctua. They cut no corners trimming down to the NH-D15S and it shows. The price is fantastic compared to the liquid AIOs on the market and the simplicity of the install makes it all the better. Absolutely will buy from Noctua again.

Better Than Some 360mm AIOs
This is my 2nd NH-D15s for a new build. I really like the performance, and looks of this air cooler. I never had a CPU temperature the same as the room temperature at idle. I have an i9 12900k teamed up with a RTX 4070 Super, and this air cooler has surpassed my previous AIO in some regards, and equaled performance in others... with the addition of air-cooled reliability that you just can't get from any AIO. With Noctua's higher prices you get much more than a great air-cooler... you also get a quality well-engineered mounting bracket that doesn't tear into the circuit traces around the mounting holes. For some reason my favorite, highly reliable, intuitive, and unfailing brand of motherboard (Gig_by_e) thought putting circuit traces near the cpu mounting holes is a good idea... so I'm always ever so careful installing cpu coolers. One very expensive AIO (NZ_T) really tore into my motherboard with their aio pump bracket supporting screws. Noctua's setup only presses down using a spacer, and nothing moves or turns that touches the motherboard. I also really like that once you install the mounting bracket's 4-screw setup to the motherboard, you can then install/remove the heat sink independently with 2 separate screws without touching the 4 screws attached to the motherboard. It makes for re-applying thermal paste, or cleaning the fan/fins of the heatsink easier without the fear of loosening the main connection to the motherboard. You really do get what you pay for with Noctua... There are other factors involved besides their great cpu cooling capabilities which inherently raises costs. The cooling fins are massive, look retro using the chrome colored version, and tan/brown fan... like the inside of a real old radio or TV from the 1930s... or some WWII secret German communication radio uplink relay. It really looks nice, and leaves plenty of space for my RTX 4070 Super. I really like this Noctua air-cooler. The wire fan brackets aren't easy to remove out of the box the way the company installs them on the furthest fin hooks, but they go back on/off just fine using the closer fin hooking system.... which will make more sense when you see it. One more thing to consider is the simplicity of this air cooler. You plug it in to a fan header, and end of story. Many of these new AIOs, and RGB setups require THEIR specific software to make it all work, and look totally futuristic & pretty... BUT-- I caught their software sending back my PC stats without my permission. I would uncheck the box in Settings giving permission, and an update would undo my privacy setting!!! And it was also puzzling how AIO and newer cases with RGB software won't work correctly unless there's an internet connection!!! That is total BS! This will never happen with a simple plain non-RGB air-cooler. UPDATE: On my old 4-pipe dual 120mm fan air cooler my gaming temps hit 80C +. With a 360 aio the gaming temps were ~70ish... which I returned because of the invasive software needed to run it, and the fans would jump to 100% and loud when the CPU was at 26C idle for no reason... With this DH-15s my CPU is the SAME temp as my room at idle, and new games are now running my cpu temps in the 40s - 53C range at 60% fan speed. Unbelievable! One fan is plenty! One review said the temps were not all that different from the non-s DH-15 with two 140mm fans. It comes with extra clips to add another fan if you want to... but I doubt you need to, and without a second fan you can see and access your RAM sticks if they're RGB, or want to add/remove the modules. Stress test on my i9 9900k: At 100% load my CPU temperature did not exceed 71C. Stress test on my i9 12900K: Ran Cinebench R23, and my score numbers were slightly above average for a 12900K, and CPU temps never went above 89C, resting outside a case on a test bench. This can easily be undervolted by -0.050V using XTU- Intel Extreme Tuning Utility's "Core Voltage Offset" setting to get lower temps... and maybe try "Turbo Boost Power Time Window" to Max all the way right... and bump up each core a point (e-cores too) in the "Performance Active-Core Tuning" setting... which will increase heat back to where you were before undervolting... but now you're Overclocked the easy way... or just undervolt 0.050V as described above, and that may be good enough to increase performance...

Beautiful piece of hardware that is unrivaled in terms of price, performance and quality!
Easily one of the most quality CPU coolers you can get your hands on. I've built many systems, but many with either a stock cooler or watercooled. For my new gaming system, I wanted to go for a clean, minimalistic and easy setup so I decided to opt for air cooling. Noctua is a company that's been around for a long time with a lot of positive reviews so I really wanted to test the performance compared to say a Corsair liquid cooler, which I'm super familiar with. Needless to say I was very impressed with operating temps idling sub 50°C, and under load, temps hovering around 75-79°C. In terms of performance it is head to head vs a quality AIO, if not better! Pros: - Packaging and design is perfect, everything is super intentional, thought out and easy to put together even for a novice pc enthusiast. - Performance is spectacular and easily the most silent cooler I have used yet. By far one of its most attractive features! - PRICE! PRICE! PRICE! What a bargain! After using liquid coolers for so long I am really impressed with how far air coolers have come as well! Although liquid cooling is cool and has it's perks, the elegance and price to performance of this cooler is killer and well worth the try imo. - Super reputable brand well known in the pc community and the quality shows in their work! In terms of look, feel and overall opinion, I am very satisfied with product quality! Cons: - I have very little to complain about with this piece of hardware if anything at all. - The only thing I would worry about is making sure this fits your case as it is a beefy cooler. Mine sits with just enough clearance on each side and can clear my ram just fine (Corsair Vengence DDR4). Be sure to check case specifications before making your decision! Summary: I do have some words of advice for anyone who purchases this as an upgrade to their current system. If you do happen to get this cooler, I would highly recommend installing this outside your pc as it can be a tight spot from within your system. Although I managed to make do without uninstalling the motherboard, it can be a bit tricky installing the cooler fan once it's sandwiched between the top of your case and graphics card. Other than that, this IMHO is one the greatest CPU coolers I have come across and when I was making the decision to purchase one, the only other one I was considering was a bigger Noctua cooler that I couldn't fit in my case lol! But that being said, do your research and find what's right for you. If you're looking for something affordable, quiet and minimalistic this is definitely a powerful option. Obviously, it may not be the most attractive thing, but its performance definitely holds up to that of an AIO and is worth considering when deciding which route to take with CPU cooling. For me it hits all the check points with quality, price and overall feel, making me feel safe knowing my 3800X is in good hands (:

Extreme Air Cooling for your CPU
Bottom Line Recommendation: Buy it if it fits. Your CPU will be MUCH happier running at a cooler temperature. Why I bought it: Once a week or so my PC would shut down because the CPU overheated to 70C. I was running a heavy load on an ASUS SABERTOOTH 990FX R2.0 AM3+ AMD FX-8350 Black Edition Vishera 8-Core 4.0GHz (G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 32GB (4 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1866). I was not overclocking. Results: If I looped 2 out of 8 cores, my stock fan could not keep the CPU below 70 degrees C for more than a couple minutes and the PC would shut down from overheating. With the Noctua fan, I looped 7 cores for about 10 minutes, and the CPU never got above 49 C. And the fan is now MUCH quieter...I can barely hear that it's turning, whereas the older fan often sounded like a jet engine. What I like: Dropped my heavy load temps from 70C to 49C. Much quieter than stock CPU cooler's fan. My stock fan roared under load; this fan barely whispers. English directions were easy to follow. Easy to install by one person in spite of its size. Installation kid included everything I needed, including heat sinc goop. Air cooling, so I do not worry about leakage. Air cooling, so the only required maintenance is vacuuming out the dust. Excellent info on Noctua website concerning compatibility. Excellent technical support in advance: I emailed my motherboard, chip, and RAM to Noctua support and they quickly replied to me which unit would fit. Six year warrantee. Opens up the possibility of overclocking. Fits over my 43 mm tall RAM with plenty of room. What I don't like: It's big: it's too tall for me to close the case if I leave the case's internal fan in place. It will fit if I remove the case's fan. What I have not done: Tested it against a water cooled system. With results like these, why bother and risk a leak?

Wow! Knock Out Performance for a CPU Cooler.
I am running an Intel i7-5820K (Haswell-E) CPU in my rig, and due to a more narrow Computer case, I started out with a Noctua NH-C14S for cooling. The NH-C14S is excellent, but I wanted to go a step beyond, and so I purchased this NH-D15S to try and to run some new benchmarks. While the NH-D15S truly is a monster size cooler, the installation is quite easy, especially on an X99 Motherboard. As I had already installed the Noctua mounting system for my NH-C14S, it was simple to take out the NH-C14S and literally slap in the NH-D15S. The brackets are exactly the same. The fan is kind of a pain to install, but more on that later. I decided to test the CPU overclocking at 4.5 GHZ, at 1.31 Volts CPU, and I had my 16 Gb of Corsair Platinum memory at 3200. I ran the AIDA64 stress test, (I think Prime small FFT is too brutal) and I came out with temperatures averaging in the high 60s, (Centigrade) with an occasional individual core spike to 80 degrees. I ran the test for about an hour, surfed the Internet at the same time, and in a closed Case at around 22 degrees Centigrade ambient temperature. This result is about 6 or 7 degrees cooler (better) than the NH-C14S, and I found that I was using a lot less Watts of power, (AIDA64 reading), despite the same input voltage and CPU frequency. My system was stable, with no crashes or bluescreens. It would seem that there is more headroom to take the overclock up further, but that will be for another day. In short, I do not think you can get a better air cooler period. This kind of performance exceeds a lot of AIO Water systems, and I have no leaks, loud fans, or bad noisy pumps to deal with. Only "custom" water cooling is going to take you much further. As different CPUs have different thermal characteristics, (Skylake, Broadwell-E, etc.) your own results may vary. This was excellent for Haswell-E. There are also a great many other professional reviews on-line that will attest to this cooler's capabilities. Due to the size and cost of this particular cooler, while it is quite excellent, it is massive overkill if you are not overclocking your CPU. If you are not overclocking, get the Cooler Master 212 Evo or even the Noctua NH-U12S. Last but not least, as we have such great engineering in this cooler's mounting system being so easy and straightforward, and we have such wonderful cooling capabilities, how is it that we are stuck with mounting the fans on with spring wire clips? Really? There is something to be said for effective simplicity and light weight, but I think Noctua can do better. Getting the fan mounted with the clips in between the two cooling towers was kind of a pain, and it resulted in some frustration and some bent fins. Oh, the fins got bent back, and the fan was attached, but the clips were almost sent to the trashcan. Noctua needs to come up with something better. Also, I changed out the Noctua fan for a Phanteks 140mm CPU Cooler fan (PH-F140HP_BK2) that fit perfectly, and looks absolutely killer. The Noctua fan is great, but it looks awful. The Phanteks fan performs as well, and it looks like it was made for the heatsink and for my particular rig, in porcelain white frame and matte black fan. Man, does it look good. For sheer performance, this CPU Cooling Monster gets 5 Stars, but there is room for improvement. The competition is not standing still. I hope Noctua is not standing still.

Amazing Cooler, great size
I installed this cooler only today, but I can honestly say I am blown away by it so far. I have a Ryzen 3900x and used the stock, wraith prism cooler it came with before getting this. With the Wraith Prism, I was easily hitting the 70c and above during gaming and cinebench r20 even hit the thermal limit of 95c. At idle, it was at 49-53c With the Noctua ND-D15S, I'm idling at 39-43c, which is a decent improvement. But stress testing it with games, video rendering and cinebench r20, the results were even more dramatic. Barely topping 60c during rendering and games, and only hitting 73c during a CR20 run. All while running quiet. I hear my intake fans more than I do the cooler when doing these tests. In contrast to the jet engines of the wraith prism. To make it a bullet point: Pros: -Quite easy to install -Great improvement on temperature and noise reduction over the stock cooler -Comes with its own thermal paste, so you don't have to worry about that Cons: -You might have issues threading the actual heat sink to the mounting brackets. -The fan colors(?). I personally don't have an issue with it: As long as as it does its job of cooling, then the color shouldn't matter too much. But if it does bother you too much: Noctua is selling black fans now. -Despite the smaller size compared to the NH-D15, the D15S might still be a cozy fit. It'll fit in the Thermaltake v200, with only a few centimeters between the fan and the tempered glass panel. It also does block the m.2 drive if it's near the cpu and you might have issues getting the graphics card out once installed. The Pros far outweigh the cons on here. If you're looking for an improvement from a stock cooler or the Hyper 212 Evo, and still want some clearance space, The NH-D15s is a very solid choice. Updates might come as time goes on, or if I have any issues with it.

Easy Installation/Amazing Customer Service
I went to install my new cooler for Ryzen 3000 but saw that there were nicks in the plating that exposed copper- maybe from shipping. I contacted Noctua support to see if there would be a problem in the long term. After sending pictures they told me to send my address so they could send me a new cooler because I quote: " This shouldn't be." .... I did NOT ASK for a new cooler, my question was "Is this okay still ?" and this was there was their response BAM new cooler being sent. Noctua takes product quality very seriously apparently and well I'm pretty confident in there warranty now. Note I did not contact through warranty or RMA but just a question to support and this was their response. Installation: Mounting System with AM4 is very easy, the mounting plate uses the default backplate from the motherboard so it takes about ten seconds to undo the screws and mount the plate. Then installing the cooler is pretty simple, just line up the screws and tighten. The fans are not as easy to install. The instructions for the fan clips are not fleshed out HINT: attach clips to the holes furthest from the side you're putting the clips on. Once I figured that it went on seamlessly. Noticed the scratches in the plating right before install. Will Update performance review with pictures of new cooler once I receive and install new cooler. * Normally I'd rate a product lower for damage or comment on Amazon's shipping but damn their quick response and going beyond my requests is very impressive customer service and I expect excellent performance from a company that takes such pride in their work. Update: Went through Noctua as I said and about 20 days later I received a brand new cooler in the mail. Considering it was shipped from over seas I'm not going to criticize the shipping speed, that's just how warranty shipping is sometimes. The new cooler has a gleaming mirror like finish. The cooler overall is in amazing condition, the fans are whisper quite and under load are audible but almost pleasant in tone. Getting excellent temperatures of 33C idle on a Ryzen 3700x overclocked and 53C under a stress test. I expect stock voltages would put it in the high 20s and a much lower load temp. I live in LA and the summer heat is climbing so that makes this even more impressive.
