  • Awesome
Some of the best coffee i’ve had was out of this pot after we burned off the paint, that’s really my only down side is the first time or two the top layer of paint is burning off and creates a lot of smoke, may even make the coffee taste weird but after it’s done it’s great flavored coffee, looks really nice too with metal and glass pieces it’s not cheaply put together ... show more

  • Good
Makes amazing coffee, but a little piece broke and for some reason there’s no where to find a replacement, so now I can’t use it at all.

  • Entertaining, and can make a great up of coffee. Not great for every morning use though.
It's a work of art that makes great coffee in a ridiculously overcomplicated fashion. Fun to watch, but somewhat less so if what you really wanted was a cup of coffee right away. I have no regrets buying it and would do so again. That said, here's some things to watch out for. The instructions indicate to first fill the alcohol lamp only half full. Which I did, but figuring I'd add more fuel when it ran out. What the instructions SHOULD say is top it off to half full every time you use it. The lamp cracked after only a few uses. The seller "Coffee and Toy" was excellent about shipping a replacement, and I of course watched more closely what was happening with the new one. So far the new lamp, filled halfway for each use, is fine. I've been looking around for some sort of electric replacement for the lamp, and either a mesh or disposable paper filter replacement for the cloth ones. Since the cloth filters are so comparably expensive I've tried reusing them, but you can taste it after two reuses, so no. 2 stars on cleaning; since the coffee goes back into the copper boiler, I bought an extra toothbrush to use through the tiny fill hole to scrub it out. ... show more

  • Too much fun!
The coffee tastes good, it is fun to watch do its thing, and the clean up isn't "that bad". Where it is falling short of 5 stars is just that mine doesn't (didn't) seem to line up just right. The copper kettle was pulled forward by the holding rod (Y shaped rod that keeps the kettle from rocking). I bent it back so it isn't too bad. I had to bend the top back about 1/2 inch or so (was very worried the wood would crack). The finish isn't wonderful, but it is fine for the price. Initially I used "Everclear" for the fuel and it was amazing. After that ran out, I used 90% alcohol (Denatured) and it leaves soot on the kettle and smells up the house a little. I would recommend this to anyone that want's to have some fun making their cup of coffee (about one American sized cup is all it makes at a time). I keep it with some of my "steampunk" antique, quirky stuff so it blends right in. ... show more

  • What a conversation piece! Beautiful
This looks great sitting out on my counters, such a nice conversation piece. I read all the reviews prior to purchase and there were some great tips. Warming the water helps in time, pull out the wick enough, burn Everclear and then sit back and watch the action. I gave 3 star for cleaning but really its not bad at all. My husband loved this as his 7yr anniversary gift. (traditional gift is copper!) It really is beautiful and the coffee is really good. We are experimenting with different coffees and grinds. you wont be sorry for your purchase. Pamela B - TN ... show more

  • Recipient loved it
Very cool coffee maker. I gave it as a gift and the recipient loved it. Takes a while to get your coffee done (sometimes we cheat and heat the water a little in the kettle first to cut down on time), but most of the point of this is to watch the process--though the coffee it makes is delicious, too. No grinds in the coffee whatsoever, and the filter is reusable. Clean up is pretty simple. We had to wait quite a while on the first cup because we didn't have the wick pulled out far enough, so the flame wasn't getting big/hot enough to heat the water. If the process is taking longer than you think it should, try pulling the wick out a bit more. ... show more

  • Great product. Extra great for the price if you've never used a balance siphon.
Makes the smoothest AND strongest cup of coffee ive ever drank. The glass is fragile and i read in the comments that if you let the fuel in the burner get too low the heat will crack the tank. So ive been keeping it at level with the recommended alchohol. Amazon delivered it entirely intact. That being said, its been used daily since Christmas on the same filter and wick with zero issues. Ive never tried a balance siphon before and highly recommend it as a first buy to try. ... show more
