  • The Greatest Game Of All Time?
Style: The Legend of Zelda
Whenever people discuss the "Greatest Game of All Time," The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is always quick to be mentioned. Originally released on the N64, it isn't hard to see why. The game was ambitious and absolutely jaw dropping when it was first released, and people still talk about its greatness today. When I was younger, I played this game and loved it (like everybody), but I got stuck at the Water Temple and could never manage to figure out what I was doing wrong. While I still have an N64, I was excited when this game was released again for the 3ds. Having played it again for the second time (and finally beating the water temple! Screw you water temple!), I can confidently say that this game still holds up today. The z targeting is occasionally finicky, but the game has so much going for it that it is easy to overlook. The dungeons are huge and creative, with some of my favorite dungeon designs from any of the Zelda games (and I have played a bunch), and the world is big but without being so huge that it takes forever to get from place to place. The puzzles range from decent to excellent (with a few stinkers), and the world is jam packed with stuff to do. The music is awesome, with bright upbeat adventure tunes and its fair share of creepy tracks. In addition, the graphics have been improved upon in this game and the touch screen makes it easier to manage your items. Ocarina of Time is not my favorite game of all time (or even my favorite Zelda probably), but it is an excellent addition to the series and absolutely deserves to be played. ... show more

  • Best Version of this Great Game
Style: The Legend of Zelda
Thank you Nintendo for re-releasing this at a lower price! I had been waiting for a while to get this cheaper, but it ended up getting more expensive as time went by. This is the definitive version of one the most iconic games of all time. I have played the original on the N64 as well as the updated version for Gamecube and this beats them all by far. They made small changes to improve the experience, which end up feeling quite substantial to complete the experience in my eyes. For example, the blurry messes of pre-rendered interiors have been replaced with fully fleshed out 3D environments, making it more polished and cohesive. There are slight changes to the user experience that make it a bit easier for new players, as well. One of my only complaints is that there is still a lot of things that aren't quite obvious that I feel they could have hit me on the head with a little harder. For example, I figured out how to create a song for the scarecrow, but I didn't put together that when Navi sometimes flies off and turns green it means that you can use the scarecrow song to reach that area. Maybe I'm slow, but I think I've outright missed that during every playthrough of this game I've done (granted it was the greater part of a decade between playthroughs). Also, the save system leaves something to be desired. You can save anywhere, but where you end up when you load isn't always clear. It was less of an issue with me since I tend to just put the system in sleep mode, but for those that switch between games a lot it might be more significant. Anyway, one of the greatest games of all time at a fantastic price point. ... show more

  • A remaster of the original that was well done.
Style: The Legend of Zelda
This is a good game.I have the original 90's special gold edition version on the N64 complete with the packaging and strategy guide along with majoras mask as well.I have to say that they greatly improved the gameplay and graphics on the 3ds version and was pleased with it.They came a long way with it with the use of more modern technology. It was good getting to play through it again more conveniently with ease and with how accessibility in the game was designed. They didn't change anything from the original one other than improving graphics and gameplay which I believe is the right way to remaster an old video game.Changing it up too much would ruin it so I'm glad they didn't.Thats what I personally look for in games like this.I would recommend this as long as you are a fan of the series and enjoy lengthy adventure games like this.Younger gamers might find it to be a little more challenging though compared to teens and adults due to how the game is to be played. There is some puzzles that might need some strategy and thinking.I know I did haha.Still age appropriate though since it is a Nintendo game and they don't really ever make mature rated games in general. If you're new to Zelda games, give it a try and you might like it.You can fortunately always return it if you don't.If you've played the original already, then this won't really be new to you and you might become bored with it after a bit of playing it.Understandable.Hope this helps. ... show more
