This was a great value to replace a switch box that one switch shorted on. The replacement switch was $30, so in contrast this was a bargain. I got it all wired up and realized that the back-lighting is on at all times there's power to the box, so I had to rewire it to an ignition switched source. There is only one hot and one ground for power input, no switched input for the switch lighting. That's kind of a pain, as one light that I use it for is a low draw LED that I do want to work at times while the ignition is off. This seems like a nice, sturdy switch panel. Only thing I didn’t like about it is there are only power leads coming from the switches and no ground leads. I remedied this by installing a ground Buss bar right behind the switch panel. It would be nice to have ground leads

Okay, so a touch of background, I am an electronics engineer, communications specialist, licensed radio operator. I am currently pursuing my GROL, mostly for maritime and avionics systems. I have been in industry over 30 years. So, back to this product. Do you like Tanks? I mean like army tanks, cause this thing is mostly built like one. It's much sturdier then the box delivered to my front step. Delivered is polite, the box was crushed on corner as if had been used as wheel chok. I do not see any physical damage on the unit. It weighs as much as a red building brick, no joke! It's a very solid heavy black box with switches. Certainly not quiet what one might expect based on the picture of it mounted below dash on left side of steering wheel. In the description of this thing presented by seller. After having in hand, I think a person is likely to crack a knee on it getting in or out. It is NOT small. This measures a real 9 inches wide, that's bigger than a sheet of standard paper width(8.5 × 11 inches). It is also nearly 3 inches without bracket, and closer to 3.75 inches tall with bracket. And in sellers description of this unit, it claimed to be 1 inch deep. That is WRONG! This unit is a full 3 inches deep, 3.5 inches with switches. This unit is not as small as suggested. I have a major issue with the design of this unit. It introduces A SERIOUS RISK OF ELECTRICAL FIRE. There are a total of 8 wires protruding from the rear of device. Each wire is exiting the unit by way of its own individual hole. This is a major concern. Each hole is ungrometed. There is nothing to prevent chaffing of wire causing short to chassis ground. If properly fused, this isn't too much an issue for fire. However, the possibility of physical damage to the wires still exist. Also, there is zero chance this unit is water tight, let alone resistant. It has 8 holes along the back, splashing happens on boats, as well as humidity. Even not on a boat, this would allow potential condensing moisture into system. Not so good in midwest, or, on a boat!The switches may be rated for water ingress, but is defeated by being installed in unsealed box, all electrical connections are exposed to environment inside an unsealed unit. DO NOT place in position to be life safety device. I specifically am calling out the maritime use because it is advertised by seller as a suitable choice. It is not. I can not install this as intended in my 2003 F-150. There is simply nowhere large enough to safely secure this. I have a commercial version of this truck, so no extras on my dash leaving lots of dashspace, and yet, nothing big enough to secure to safely. I can't imagine trying this on most newer vehicles. I will be fabricating a center console to hold this switch box and a couple radios.. Overall, this isn't a bad product. It's A way overpriced ALUMINUM BOX.. THE BRACKET IS STEEL. ... show more
