  • A great cheap optic for hunting.
This optic is very heavy, especially with the IR light attached. However this weight is because the housing is machined from three pieces of aluminum. There is very little plastic on this sight which makes it very durable. It can be mounted on a shotgun without issues. The most important thing to understand about this sight is that since it lacks an ocular lens, this optic needs to be mounted far forward on a gun otherwise there will be a slight delay as your eye focuses from the distant target to up close on the screen. This can make it very difficult to make quick shots when using this optic. For this reason it is important to supplement this optic with another aiming method for close range shooting, such as a laser. BAC both eyes open style of shooting does not work with this optic due to the small FOV due to the 3.5x base magnification. For this reason this optic is best suited for hunting purposes than any self-defense role. Additionally although it can handle a shotgun's recoil, the small FOV and magnification makes it a poor option for a shotgun outside of hunting with slugs at distance. This being said, it does have a unique application when shooting with gas masks or ballistic face shields which normally are difficult or impossible to use with other magnified or digital optics that have a limited eye relief. Particularly if you compare this to a prism optic which has an extremely short eyebox that is pretty much impossible to use with most gasmasks when using a protective outsert on the lens. Another consideration for the lack of ocular lens is that the screen will output a large amount of light on the shooter's face. Since the point of night vision is to not emit visible light like a flashlight, this could be an issue for some applications. There are 3D printed solutions available to shroud the screen and reduce eye splash, however it makes the setup extremely long. The screen brightness setting should be set to low. In the daytime screen brightness needs to be set at high. Even in direct sunlight the screen is clearly visible when set to high. Although not intended, the rear of the optic has a square shaped shelf on the housing which makes it suitable for gluing a red tinted optical filter which can virtually eliminate eye splash while not affecting the function other than color. Zeroing moves the reticle on the screen, it does not move the screen FOV. This means that your reticle may be zeroed in the corner of the screen instead of the center. However, the optic body is true to the camera, so you shouldn't have to make much if any zero adjustment if your gun rail is true. I placed this on multiple guns and it was very close to zero in terms of horizontal adjustment. Zero setting displayed in upper right hand corner in moa or mil, although this isn't exactly useable at very long range due to the resolution limitation. The zero is not lost when you remove the battery, but by simply noting down the zero setting numbers one can easily return to zero much like a slippable turret on a traditional scope. There are four color modes, color, monochrome, sepia, and green. Color is the best as the others tint the screen too much. The IR filter does not completely block IR light. The purpose of it is to preserve colors during the daytime when in color mode. Without the IR filter flipped up, everything will look purple/pink. This sight has amazing energy efficiency running consistently for 5 hours and 20 min on a single rechargeable CR123A that is included. Since it is a chinese battery, the rated capacity is likely false. If you use a legitimate American battery, especially a non rechargeable one, you are likely to get more hours of runtime. The sight has a 15GB internal memory which while it seems to be small, if you calculate video output resolution, this equates to almost exactly 5 hours of recording time. Videos record in a maximum of 10min clips which needs to be set in the settings. Note that the videos do not capture the HUD, so the reticle will not show up in the recorded footage, which is a shame, especially since the POA is not likely to be in the dead center of the video. Video files are transferred using a USB Mini cable, which is fairly outdated, but it does come with the necessary cable. The data port is well sealed with a screw on cap, although it can be hard to screw on due to the lanyard being very short. The dot aiming point of the reticle is fixed to red, but the external reticle shape can be changed in color between white, black, red, green, blue. Red is the best option as white and black may not be visible depending on brightness, and green and blue are not as bright as red. There are several reticles including the option to remove the reticle. The best reticle to use is the + shaped crosshair as the mil reticles are not very useful since the reticle is calibrated at base magnification and does not increase in size with digital zoom. The range finding reticle is unusable because while the order of increasing range as you go down the reticle is correct, the width of each range finding mark is reversed, with the most distant holdover having the largest width. Additionally, the holdover marks are only on one side of the reticle, which means even if they were correct, when you achieve the right holdover, it will be shifted to the right of your POA. There is also an option to put a rangefinder on the left side of the screen, which allows you to determine range based on height. This is a much better option, however it is calibrated for the average asian adult male height of 1.7M (5'7"). This assumes you have the full profile exposed to you, which can limit its usefulness. This optic is comfortable in taking shots out to 300 yards, although it can likely go further if the target location is well illuminated. The included IR flashlight is powerful, but because this is digital night vision, it requires excessively strong IR light sources compared to real IIT devices. Out of the box, the range is limited to 100 yards at night. This is an extremely fun scope to use and at its low price, it makes it a great option for airguns, small game rifles like a 10/22. At under $200, it's cheaper than most red dots on the market, but has lot more capability. ... show more

  • Good for the price
Pros: cost for the price you cant beat it, works well at night and day. Is used on one of my ARs and it has held to the recoil and held zero so far. Looks and feels well built. Not super heavy. Has 3 brightness settings for night and day. Several reticle to choose from. Can record what you see if you're into that. Cons: user interface is not intuitive but several youtube videos cover it. When sighting it in the reticle moves not the screen, it makes the reticle off center, (attached picture) it works just fine but if you are (OCD) like me it's super annoying. When setting things on the user menu you have to save it or it will reset. Other: not really a con but the focus is on top of the device instead of on the side like a scope works just fine but not the most ergonomic. I would prefer to be able to sight it in in a different manner preferably a mechanical way on the body of it instead of the digital movement of the cross hairs. Or at the very least have the cross hairs stay centered. Over all I'm happy with it. I have friends that have the expensive military night vision and while not being quite as good, its a reasonable well working second the interface just needs work. ... show more

  • Useful kit for getting started with Night Vision optics
This is a pretty decent kit offered by GoYoJo for a small footprint Night Vision optic. What I like most about it is that it comes with most everything you need, including batteries. You get the NV optic unit itself, which is very nice looking and built solid. Seems like it can take a beating, which can happen in the dark... I also love the rail attachment. It's got that easy to adjust/tighten, quick throw handle on it. It will lock onto your picatinny rail nice and tight. I have a similar mount on my thermal and they work very well for taking on and off and not completely loosing zero. The adjustments are clear and easy to use, plus work as expected. The screen is interesting. Nice and clear, not terribly big of course, matching the size on the scope, but it does take a little getting used to. Remember you don't look through this like a normal scope or binoculars. Your eyes are looking it through it back a bit. So I have trouble focusing and seeing what's what on the screen. The buttons are great too. But I sort of need to remember what they do each time. The instruction manual is fine, but the print is a little small for me. I need my readers to really read it. So I haven't spent a lot of time committing function to memory. That means I feel like I'm not getting all I can out of this NV optic yet. Meanwhile, the included IR light is good. Battery included and last a long time. Definitely makes a world of difference when turned on of course. Plus you get a battery charger for both batteries. Which is an appreciated add. I added this to a recurve crossbow for now. I feel that the 30-50 yard range work well with setup. All in all, nice entry into night vision and looking forward to getting more time in the field with it. ... show more
