  • The HTI-19 has significant potential and value in thermal imaging
Update 2/7/23-the HTI continues to function without issues. I continue to find new and different ways to utilize the thermal imaging feature. Battery life has been excellent, no degradation that I can tell just yet. It does take several seconds to power up so you just have to get used to it. The camera's thermal and visual overlay does need to be adjusted if you are doing close up work vs. longer distances. Truly impressed! Right out of the box I realized there was significant potential with this HTI-19 thermal imaging camera. My first thoughts were to look at my own home. Even without any background in thermal cameras I was able to immediately utilize the high resolution of the camera and interpret areas that showed obvious signs of energy inefficiency. Areas missing insulation, joints to the exterior where caulking had cracked or split allowing air infiltration and gaps in door seals. With heating prices skyrocketing, improving each of these areas will likely have tangible results helping justify the use of the HTI-19. I fully expect that these same improvements would benefit summer cooling. As for the camera itself, it does not appear to be cheaply made and feels robust during use. I had no issues with fatigue and the rubberized like grip provides a secure hold. At the start I am leaving the basic thermal imaging settings at default till I am more proficient. These settings such as the Spectrum color palette and 0.95 emissivity seem to work reasonably well. I have noticed that as I move the camera(pan it) there is sometimes a very slight display hesitation as the image updates. Standout specs: -320x240 IR resolution(rare at this price point) and a relatively large display. -One button image or video capture with 3Gb onboard storage. -Simple USB charging and laptop or desktop connection capabilities. -Accurate real-time temperature measurements -Included carrying case and carrying strap Images and associated quantitative data will be .jpg captured at 320x240 resolution and can be modified with included/available software. This could be handy if you are presenting your findings to others. I recommend searching for then visiting the HTI-instrument website for the latest image editing software. The camera does contain the imaging software within its built-in storage but the website has newer revisions. If needed the onboard software can be moved and installed to your computer when you connect via the USB micro port. This HTI-19 has far more potential than just home energy efficiency. It does require some deeper understanding for more complex situations or environments. But the capability is there. It can be learned and applied to many other areas. With proper understanding, one area that I believe would stand out would be the ability to help diagnose water leaks/water intrusion. Even with only a few hours under my belt I feel I could potentially spot some of these water leak areas already. For me I see this tool as something to help my own home initially then maybe to help family and friend's homes. Beyond that, there are many possibilities. Yes you can spend hundreds if not thousands more on other IR cameras but at this price point with included features the dive into thermal imaging with this HTI-19 is worth thinking about. ... show more

  • Impressive Thermal Imager at an affordable price
Quite impressed with with the HT-19. Really glad I got the HT-19 that comes with both 320x240 IR and visible camera. Has all the essential functions to work for construction or heat loss assessment. Its not a FLIR, but at 1/5 to 1/10 the price of a FLIR, its a very good deal for anyone who doesn't make a living with it. The ability to superimpose a photo view helps in many instances to provide context like electrical panel for example. With a higher resolution 320x240 IR sensor, technologies like FLIR's MSX is less relevent. MSX is helpful if you have a 80x60 IR sensor. Due to the distance between the sensor and camera, the super imposed images are sometime misaligned depending on distance. The HT-19 has 'parallax' adjustment in the menu to align the IR with the photo. I initially wanted a USB smart phone based Thermal Imager, but ended up deciding on a more durable stand alone device that I can abuse and drag thru a crawl space or attic. One thing I wish the HT-19 can do is user settable temperature range. The temperature scale (color) is relative to what is in the frame, so it keeps changing colors depending on the high and lows. This makes it impossible to compare photos of adjacent areas. Overall, battery life is very good, Having to plug in to a computer USB to transfer photos out of device is a bit inconvenient, but I have no issues if it means keep the device affordable. Refresh rate is a bit slow. Recommended for anyone working on energy efficient remodels and new construction; also great for locating radiant floor tubings. Don't get it if you just want a thermal image of your cat or dog, its cool but gets old pretty quickly. However, I have used it to find my old dog who ran after some wild critters into the woods. ... show more

  • Great value
For the price, it's excellent. I use it for home inspections. 320x240 is the minimum thermal resolution I'd recommend using for that purpose. I'm able to find active wet spots with no problem with this camera. For this price point you wont get any cool features like wifi sharing. But if you're on a budget and just need a thermal camera that has good imaging, this is a great bang for your buck. Only issue I have with it is the micro-usb location. The cord it comes with is fine, others may not fit in the small recessed access slot. Other usb cords seem to charge the camera, but dont work for data tranfer when hooked up to my laptop. May not be making a full connection due to the recessed location? ... show more

  • Great Thermal Imaging Camera for a Great Price
I use this for Home Inspections. I've been waiting for prices to come down and quality to come up. This was an offer I couldn't refuse. I paid less than 4.5% of the price of what I was looking at a few years ago and this is better technology. It was marked down plus they gave me another 20% "15 minute only" deal on top of that. I guess that falls into impulse purchase territory. The one I was considering several years back was over 8.5 G's! Time will tell how long it lasts, but so far, I am impressed. The functions work great. Build quality seems top notch. I don't plan on using the video features, but it takes them, unlike one review I read. The photos look great and are easy to download using the cable and put in my inspection reports. Photos have three temperature measurements that you can list at the bottom. Center of photo, High and Low temperatures, all also marked at the locations on the photo. The blend between the photo and Thermal Image is easy to use and works great. Like I said, for the price, I am well pleased. ... show more
