    • Effective fix for my broken OEM alternator
Old alternator was broken (only putting out 10A) on my 94 Ram 2500 with 5.9L gas engine. Swapping in this alternator put my electrical system back in working order. Only a couple minor gripes - shipped with minimal padding and the plastic positive terminal shroud was shattered in the box. I swapped it with the shroud from my original. The pulley has one more groove than the original alternator (and belt) had. It still meshes well with the grooves (same spacing), there is just one empty. A lot of people complained about the hit and miss quality of aftermarket alternators for my 96 Ram 2500 with 5.9 Cummins. I figured i would roll the dice as a "factory" alternator was $300 plus dollars . . . and i just couldn't justify that cost on a 250k mile truck. Anyway, shipping was fast, packaging was ok . . . the plastic guard for the charging lug on the alternator was broken . . . this has no impact in performance so I installed it anyway. I changed the tensioner and belt at the same time. The whole project took about an hour. Started the truck and the alternator was charging and I was holding a consistent 14V. Time will tell how it holds up over the miles, but currently, I am a happy camper. I am keeping my factory alternator and rebuilding it this winter as I have time and will keep that in the tool box as a backup . .. Just in case. ... show more
