exact factory fit. tests after install at 14.?? VDC on near fully charged battery my 2000 5.4 L GAS F-150 was only down the two day ship time . the packaging was bullet proof (hd box original manu. item w hd extruded cardboard/paper packing to limit any item movement shipped with in amazon box w plastic inflated pocket packing limiting movement of manu. box) YOU'LL NEED 8MM 10MM SOCKETS AND SHORT AND LONG EXTENSIONS. FLAT HEAD SCREW DRIVER OR PICK SET (TO REMOVE ELECTRICAL HARNESS CONNECTORS A 1/2 " BREAKER BAR AND PIPE TO FIT OVER HANDLE TO REMOVE TENSION ON SERPENTINE BELT. A BUNGIE CORD TO HOLD BELT IN IT'S PLACE WHILE YOU R AND R ALTERNATOR GOOD NEWS! MAYBE TWENTY FIVE MINUTES TO ASSEMBLE TOOLS AND REMOVE BAD ALTERNATOR AND 15 MINUTES TO INSTALL AND TEST AND ACCOUNT FOR ALL TOOLS HINT; REMOVE ELEC. CONNECTER AFTER YOU HAVE GOT UNIT FREE FROM BLOCK AND SNAP CONNECTOR BACK INTO UNIT BEFORE MOUNTING TO BLOCK dont forget to charge your battery till its is steady at 12.6 VDC(in a perfect world) BEST CASE IS TO BUY NEW BATTERY (WHICH IS WHY THEY RECOMMEND ONLY RUNNING NEW ALTERNATOR WITH A STEADY CHARGE OF 12.6) (MOST ANY QUALITY BATTERY WITH IN REASONABLE LENGTH OF USE(FIRST TWO TO THREE YEARS) CAN BE CHARGED TO 12.5 VDC WITH CELLS FILLED AND TOP OF CASE CLEANED CONTACT POST FREE OF CORROSION WITH OUT FAIL .NO MATTER THE CONDITION A BATTERY THAT WAS BATTLING THE DEATH THROES OF A FAILING DEGRADING ALTERNATOR WILL HAVE RECEIVED SOME ABUSE AND LIFE TAKING TRAUMA AND NO MATTER WHAT YOU DO TO THE CHARGER YOU WILL FIND THAT IT WILL NEVER TEST AGAIN WITH A STEADY 12.6 VDC ) IF BATTERY IS OLDER THAN THREE YEARS THEN REPLACE IT BEFORE RUNNING IT ON YOUR NEW ALTERNATOR. • It's an alternator, it was needed, now it's not.
The alternator went in as easy as any other I suppose. For those unifamiliar, always check the battery cables at the fuse box, the battery, and the alternator first with a miltimeter to rule out failure and bad grounds there as they can give a false failure and a new alternator won't do you any good, simply check resistance or do a voltage drop test. Also, note that this alternator has a false click on the input wiring, you need to push it down all the way or it just won't work, found this out the hard way felt like it was in place it wasnt and clean them too while youre there. Value is worth it, and of course it looks new. There is no gasket, and durability is hopeful, it's not a complicated part so I don't expect failure anytime soon as long as nothing else is bad. ... show more

  • Overcharging - Was clearly used before - Verify voltage before before you walk away
Ordered this alternator 6 months ago (July 2024) as part of an attempt to save some money and do some much needed repairs on a truck located on an out of state business property. Old existing alternator was under-volting and not able to keep battery charged during daily trips. Attempted to do other brake system repairs during hot, humid Florida heat and gave up quickly having not even looking at the alternator inside the box. That was my mistake as now that is's cooler weather, I finally get around to replacing the alternator, belt, idler pully & tensioner and find out that the alternator was clearly used before. It had scrapes on the mounting plate where it bolts to the engine and the central nut in the middle is very rusted. Everything else looks pretty new. I installed it anyways figuring that maybe it's a re-manufactured alternator and might have used components so that is why it's cheap. Ok, so I install it and at first startup I start to notice that there is a funny smell which I attribute to the new belt, but soon the instrument cluster is going crazy and and I see liquid on top of the battery and can hear it boiling inside I get the multi-meter out and measure 18.5 volts are going into the battery. This alternator has a bad voltage regulator and basically killed my battery. Battery only hold 0.5 volts now and will not charge. Since It's been 6 months from when I ordered this alternator, a return is no longer possible with Amazon and I couldn't facilitate a return now since I need to leave state again for awhile. What a let down and huge waste of time and money this faulty alternator has cost me. ... show more
