    • Works well but effects idle when cold.
installed on 94 ford ranger 2.3, 1 month ago. Charges battery but when engine is cold and I have battery loaded (radio, heater, headlights) the idle will fall. I think its because this alternator is failing to put out sufficient voltage to accommodate the load. This only happens when its cold and I have an old battery so its possible that has something to do with it, but i didnt have this happen with my old Motorcraft alternator. the truck always starts so im happy with this product. My Ranger has 187000 miles on it. This replaced the original 1995 alternator. I drive less than 5k per year so was no sense in opting for a unit over double the cost of this one. A huge plus was no Core Charge for replacement. Easy to replace if you dont have AC. Works well with 14.1 volts running. As for durability, that remains to be seen. I havent put it under a hard load to see if it bogs down some. Pretty typical to have them drop under load at idle with such low amperage. Its what factory stock rated. ... show more

The pulley of this alternator has a lot of play, and makes a loud noise when the engine is running, I will send it back to get a replacement one. wasted labor and time.
