    • Works Great - Thought It Wouldn't - But DOES
First off, the removal of the old alternator from the 2003 Ford Focus ZETEC engine compartment is a bit of a pain. A lot of maneuvering needs to take place. This IS NOT a job for the easy going car wrencher. However, once you get the old alternator out, this is where some of the magic was missing on my end. I was able to finally get this new one placed back on the alternator holding plate on the back of the engine. Once I started tightening down and feeling that first bit of resistance, I figured that I got the wrong alternator. It felt really loose and did not sit tightly in it's spot. This is where I failed to remember that I needed to torque it down because the simple tension would not allow the friction plates on this new alternator to keep it in it's place. Once I got to the proper torque spec, this alternator fit perfectly and has since been working as expected. Remember to torque to your vehicle specifications. To note, there was no notice of the friction plates on the alternator to alert me to this either. It may be beneficial to have the manufacturer mention this in the repair/replacement documentation sent with this alternator. For the $$$, it was a steal as everyone in town was double the cost. Even in-town repair shops wanting to charge $30-$40 more for a refurbished alternator cannot match this price. Thanks! ... show more
