  • Solid solar charger and extremely clear videos
Color: Blue Style: AI Solar
Gave this to my wife for Christmas. Easy to set up, easy to install. I used an eight-foot, treated 4x4 bolted into a spike (designed to accommodate a 4x4) that had been previously driven into the ground (This way, I can move it around if needed). A robust metal squirrel guard is a necessity if you have raccoons in the area. Battery never drops below 98%, even in cloudy weather, so it appears that the solar panel is quite effective at keeping it charged. The video clips of birds that visit the feeder are enchanting and fun to view while we are dining out or visiting. At home, my wife screencasts the video to a 75-inch Samsung, and we get a great view of our birds in our living room. Only drawback is that the supply of birdseed sometimes lasts only a few hours when the grackles and blackbirds are around. We are experimenting with different types of feed to dissuade these ravenous birds. ... show more

  • What a FUN product!
Color: Blue Style: AI Solar
What an amazing feeder! I bought this for a Christmas gift for my wife and we have both loved watching our feathered friends feed continuously! Putting the pieces together was a little challenging and we had to change our plans of hanging on a tree to putting it on a pole but that was more our preference than a product issue. We average over 200 birds a day and are amazed to see the closeups as they feast. The AI recognition software is a great plus and helps us identify and tally the number of visitors daily. The solar charger has worked perfectly and we have not had any issues with a power outage to the camera even on a cloudy day. The app loaded easily onto our phones and we can easily open the app to watch live or see who has visited the feeder earlier in the day. The item is made of plastic and doesn't have the appearance of a high end feeder so my only recommendation to the manufacturer is to consider making a "higher end" version that might better blend in with the cedar and other wood feeders we have in our yard. ... show more

  • Great product. Good photos.
Color: Blue Style: AI Solar
The NetVue Bird Feeder provides great photos and videos of birds that visit to feed. The AI function misidentifies or cannot indentify birds at times, however, overall it is pretty good. I have the solar panel battery charger and recommend it. I set up the feeder and solar panel over a month ago and the battery indicator is still reading fully charged and I live in a notoriously cloudy area. The multiple connections for securing the feeder and solar panel to a pole or tree that came with the feeder are great. Due to my yard and the prevalence of squirrels, chipmonks and raccoons I ultimately purchased a pole and baffle from a separate vendor to mount my Birdfy on and the attachments suppled by NetVue work great on it. NetVue should consider offering their own pole and baffle product. Other comments: - Netvue should consider offering a zoon feature on their camera. The birds are already physically close to the camera, however at times being able to zoom in on what the bird is doing or some activity in the background would be interesting. - The basic menue could be more intuitive and/or descriptive as to function. - I wonder what it would take to increase the strength of the wifi. I have a 5G home wifi and the feeder is located 50 feet from my back door, however, the Birdfy still reports that I have a "weak" signal. Even when I placed the feeder 10 feet from my back door, I still received a "weak wifi connection" notice. I decided to place the feeder 50 feet from my backdoor since that was the best location for my yard and even though I constantly receive a "weak wifi" message the camera seems to operate perfectly. - One of the first steps in the assembly instructions was to insert the SD card. Eventually, I figured out that a SD card was not included with the feeder and was not needed for the basic operation of the feeder. Since a low capacity SD card cost me only $11 retail (and I'm sure NetVue could buy it much cheaper) I suggest that a low capacity SD card be included with each BirdFy by NetVue. ... show more

  • Overall great feeder...with a few annoying shortcomings.
Color: Yellow Style: AI Solar
I don't often write reviews for products, but in this case I felt it needed to happen, both to praise the positives of this feeder, as well as to add to the other reviews so buyers know what to expect. Full disclosure, I am an avid birder, and have been feeding/watching wild birds for over 30 years. So I am at the same time a harsh judge, and a bird nerd that loves new toys for the pigs with wings. That being said, I would definitely recommend this feeder to the majority of birders who either aren't afraid of slightly fussy tech, or have a partner/friend/relative that wouldn't mind helping them get it set up and walk them through what to expect, as well as what issues may pop up. First things first, set-up. I bought this feeder for my SO for Christmas, and she was super excited to get it installed. Nice minimal design with few moving parts. It took less than 10min to get it put together, download the app, and get it paired up and recording. It comes with multiple mounting options. We ended up using the bracket and clamp option as the hole pattern on the included bracket was slightly different than the pattern on all of the mounts available with the pole system we use. **For reference: we use the APS (Advanced Pole System) A modular "Shepherd's Hook/Pole" mounting system used for bird feeders, houses, baths, etc. Available from Wild Birds Unlimited.** The bracket/clamp combination works very well on the 1" pole that is standard with this system. Haven't had any sliding/stability issues at all. The solar panel mounted perfectly above the feeder using the flexible wrap included. It seemed a bit odd at first, but coiled around the pole easily, and the tacky exterior helps it grip well. This flexible wrap will almost certainly end up as one of the shortcomings of the design, will update later if that is the case, but more on that further in. After set up and mounting, filling the feeder is very easy. The top flips forward, and the opening is spacious enough to not need a funnel or scoop. I do wish the capacity were larger. We usually refill and clean our feeders weekly, and it is only lasting 4-5 days currently. So I am 100% sure this will be a twice a week feeder when spring/summer rolls around. Also, if you mount the solar panel just above the feeder like I did. You may need to rotate the panel out of the way to refill. The birds took to the feeder almost immediately, and the notifications began! Now, if you have a busy backyard like we do, you are going to get a LOT of notifications. We are averaging 100+ daily. Bluebirds, Phoebes, Mockingbirds, Robins, Titmice, Chickadees, Cardinals...they all love it. The Woodpeckers and Finches don't show much interest, but that probably has more to do with other feeders/foods we have elsewhere in the yard, which they seem to prefer. The camera works very well. Image quality is very good for the price point, if a bit fish-eyed around the edges. I would recommend aiming the camera downward a bit. This will help give a better view of the birds feeding, as well as to help cut down on glare and lens flare if your camera will be mounted East/West where the sun will be in the shot at some point in the day. Onto the recordings themselves. This is where you have to match your expectations with the typical feeding behavior of the bird. Some birds are just grab-and-go feeders, and will very seldom, if ever, hang out to eat. Smaller, twitchy varieties like Titmice and Chickadees come and go so quickly, you will mostly get clips that begin with them flying away. But, for us at least, the camera has begun recording quickly enough to catch even the quick ones. Hopefully it stays that way. Our issue there has been more with the larger birds (Doves, Robins, Grackles) hanging out and triggering multiple clips in a row. Now onto the AI. It's not.....bad. But it's not great either. It does get a lot of them correct. But that being said, it also gets some VERY obvious examples wrong. The worst part is when it does get them wrong, it will frequently identify the same bird correctly from a shorter video, or a video with a worse angle that should make it difficult to ID. Inconsistency in AI is not good. It also means we shouldn't look for any improvement without updates. Battery life has been perfect. At this time of year, it's getting around 4 hours of direct exposure, and another 4-5 of diffused/reflected exposure, and even with the number of notifications we are getting, the battery has stayed at 90-100%. We'll see how this ages. Now for the not good and what I'm sure will be the future not good. The colors. Ugh. White feeders are a horrible idea. Full Stop. That being said, I knew what I was getting into when I purchased it, it's not like the color was a secret. For some reason, most of the camera feeders on the market are only available in white, or other bright colors. These may be eye-catching and colorful for us, but with a few exceptions like Orioles and Hummingbirds, the birds don't care about the feeder, it's all about the food. Every, single, piece of the feeder is white, save for the either pale yellow, or pale blue top, and the clear center portion that holds the food. And the flexible wrap mount for the solar panel has a dense rubbery cover that I'm afraid will be difficult to clean. I will update later on the aging and long term cleaning. The feeding tray is another piece that I hope they update at some point. The tiny little slits cut in it for air flow clog very easily. Depending on the type of food you are using, it may very likely need to be removed to be washed out regularly as there are edges and nooks where buildup can hide, making mold a real concern. The only complaint concerning the camera connection/WiFi is slight, but annoying. When you want to connect and live view the camera, you can NOT be connected to the same WiFi as the camera. Just flat out will not connect. Turn off WiFi and connect using Mobile Data, no problem. Now as I haven't been able to test this using a different network, this may be an isolated issue for us that is related to our devices. Just fyi. The camera face itself is a bit of a pain to keep clean. It's glossy black, and began to show swirls/scratches and water spots within the first week. This hasn't effected the camera function or image quality yet, though it's not tucked back into the feeder quite far enough to avoid getting wet if it's anything other than a light rain. So expect water droplets on the lens if rain comes through. Overall, I am very pleased with this purchase. Aside from the issues mentioned, which I hope continued product support from the manufacturer may resolve in the future, this feeder has done everything it promised to do for us. I think this would be a welcome addition to most birder's feeding areas as long as you keep in mind that how and where you mount it, and what you put in it will be as important to it's success as the design. Thank you for reading and happy birding! ... show more
