  • Not foam but if you go slow these are fun
I've been getting into lightsabers here recently and I wanted to include my kids in my new obsession without having to spend too much so when I saw these I figured it would be good for them. It arrived just fine with no defects that I could see. Getting it out you get two blades, two hilts, and two handles. Putting them together was a breeze and didn't take me long at all. We did a little play fighting with them and they held up well, just don't go too hard or I can see them getting broke. They do require 3 aaa batteries each so make sure you have some on hand. All in all, these have worked well for us so far and I can see many duels in the future. ... show more

  • Pretty fun!
While they have trouble staying extended, they are fun to play with and try to knock down each other’s targets. My boy and I battled with these over the weekend and had quite a bit of fun with them. I just wish there was a way to keep the extensions locked out so they don’t collapse every time you go for a thrust. ... show more

  • Fun, Concerned they won't last long
These are fun. My only complaint is that they seem to come apart easily. The rubber tip keeps coming off one of the swords. The orange flap has come off a couple of times. The pieces have gone back on so far. I'm concerned about overall longevity. As a safety, the yellow part of the sword collapses in, which is good, but it happens a lot and you are constantly pulling it back out. ... show more

  • Ok, not typical "Nerf"
When I see "Nerf", I generally think of foam meant to allow kids to have fun without hurting each-other. These are more of a typical plastic extending sword with a soft tip (that seems to come off relatively easily). The object it to stab your opponents hand guard and knock down all the flaps first. These are ok and a little different take on this style of toy, but not "game changing". Overall 3.1/5 ... show more

  • hard and not very durable
These dueling swords are made of plastic and do not have foam on them. Which makes sense since they're retractable. The plastic does not seem like it will hold up to the abuse that my daughter gives them. She loves having sword fights but if she gets too aggressive they will not hold up for too long. ... show more

  • NOT "FOAM" and NOT "SOFT" - Light Won't Stay On
The media could not be loaded. Be aware: NOT SOFT FOAM. There is not "soft foam" anywhere on these - they are HARD PLASTIC that WILL CAUSE INJURY if striking a human, notably a human hand, especially a CHILD's HAND. And that's quite LIKELY to happen with these because Nerf made the whole object of the "game" to whack away at the opponent's HAND "GUARD" and knock down the corners - an almost impossible task unless you chop away furiously at your opponent's hand with this HARD HARD HARD PLASTIC sword. Do you really think kids won't be hitting each other's hands? My FOUR-YEAR OLD whacked my hands several times, and it HURTS. Kids can generate a lot of force with a big pole made of HARD PLASTIC. How is this even a Nerf product? There is nothing soft or Nerfy about it. It's worse than just a poor quality product - it's dangerous by design, dangerous in use. Your hands have a lot of small bones, childrens' hands have even smaller, more delicate bones. SEE MY VIDEO; I AM NOT EXAGGERATING. There is precisely ONE (1) "SOFT" thing on this sword, oh, but it's NOT FOAM - it's fairly hard RUBBER, and that's the end cap at the tip of the hard plastic sword - but you won't have it for long, because the glue holding it in cracks and this rubber end cap falls right out, loosened with each strike, just as you see in my video. Eventually this piece flies out the end (happened with BOTH swords - I watched it occur, twice) and who knows what this hard rubber end with ROUGH, SHARP, broken plastic SHARDS will strike when it goes flying. SEE MY PHOTOS of this dangerous "soft" piece. The sharp edges you see are HARD PLASTIC, possibly hardened plastic glue, but they're quite rough and quite sharp. BOTH swords are like this, and the plastic the ends are trying to be anchored in are smooth and slippery, so it's a DESIGN DEFECT, not a one-off issue. I'm not sure ANY glue will hold these pliable, ductile rubber pieces into a smooth plastic tube. But surely this hard, sharp glue (or plastic collar?) should NEVER have been used - I almost cut myself on these! Oh, the glow part does work after you put in 3 "AAA" cell batteries in each one, but the battery carrier bangs around inside the sword's handle so the lights flicker off and on as you move the sword, so event he lights are a problem. These swords are a SAFETY PROBLEM, especially with the ad falsely calling them "soft foam." If you give these to your children, or even use them as adults, you should expect a lot of rapped knuckles and possibly BROKEN FINGERS. Not kidding. These are awful. Demonstrably dangerous product. And right now the price is north of $40? Wow, because this item is being clearanced across the web at 1/8th that price. (Nerf knows its bad and un-Nerfy, that or they didn't sell many. Or both.) I know one major retailer (uses red a lot) removed them completely from their stores, maybe because they didn't sell, or maybe because of the liability? If you love your children, and don't want trips to the hospital with broken little hands, and maybe arms and worse than that, then DO NOT LET YOUR CHILDREN ANYWHERE NEAR these things. Really, really bad. Very UN-Nerf-like. (Seriously hard to believe Nerf didn't recall and destroy them other than the bad press that would possibly bring.) ... show more
