  • Comfortable car-camping chair
Color: Sedona/Smoke
I went back and forth for months before deciding to give the Stargaze a shot - it's certainly one of the pricier options for camp seating out there, and doesn't pack up nearly as small as some of the ultralight backpacking stools/chairs I've used in the past. At the same time though, I was moving away from backpacking and over to car camping, so size and weight had become somewhat less of an issue than they used to be. (That being said, with the car being a 2-door Wrangler size is still something to keep an eye on - a number of traditional "folds up into a 4 foot by 16 inch cylinder" camp chairs got rejected for not fitting my vehicle very well.) Plus somewhere along the way I managed to live past the half-century mark, where furniture comfort starts having a value all on its own. I'm also eyeballing overlanding in the future, and a common comment from experienced overlanders is to not cut corners on your chair, because if you're on the road for weeks/months at a time you're going to be spending a LOT of that time in your chair. I liked that the chair had a wide range of seating positions, and while not exactly "super-compact" or "featherweight" was at least something that would easily fit anywhere in the Jeep, and small and light enough that I could see tossing it on my back for a short hike to any nearby scenic spot I might encounter. The design looked both sturdy and comfortable. And most of the other chairs I was looking at missed out on one or more of those points - bulkier packed size, often heavy, most were fixed position, where their main plus point became "but cheaper!" Eventually I finally talked myself into giving the Stargaze a try and ordered one. Recently had a chance to bring the Stargaze on a camping vacation trip and test it out, and I was very VERY satisfied with it. Having practiced a few times at home the chair was trivial to set up. Daytime highs for the trip were in the upper 80s, humidity was even higher most of the days, but there was also normally a breeze as well, so with the large expanses of mesh in the Stargaze I still felt decently comfortable. Owing to various (mis-)adventures over the years my back and knees have taken a pretty good beating, so I particularly liked the way the armrest poles with their clearly-labeled "hold here" reminders provided a strong stable leverage point for getting in and out of the chair - it made it easy to sit/stand without taxing any of my over-abused body parts. Once I was seated the stability was obvious throughout the full range of chair back positions - whether I was seated upright or lounging back or anywhere in between, I never once felt like anything was wobbly or tipsy. Instead I found myself so relaxed that I was easily able to take a siesta nap on a couple of the afternoons. If you're having any issues with packing the chair back up afterwards, definitely go find the Nemo tutorial video about packing the Stargaze and watch it, then practice a few times. (A smart person might even closely examine how the chair was packed from the factory the first time they opened the bag up. Sadly, I am not such a smart person.) Before I watched the tutorial the best I was getting was a jumbled mess that technically fit back in the bag, but seemed to poke out in odd places and strained the zipper a bit. Afterwards, I had a nice organized bundle that dropped into the bag, and even a little bit of space to spare. ... show more

  • Exactly what I wanted
Color: Graphite/Smoke
I totally bought this for inside. I don’t transport it anywhere except around my house and I don’t take it apart to do that. Set up was alright, I had trouble with one part which my husband was able to do with a little extra effort. The bag the chair came in looked beat up and like it was used but the chair itself seemed clean and new. I get the feeling it’s a knock off of a nicer product BUT it’s good for the price. I’m not a camper so I don’t need fancy camping equipment. As an autistic adult, I find it super comfortable. I can’t hang a sensory swing in my house and my husband would like me to stop taking his office chair and using it to turn back and forth all day. I don’t tend to like rocking chairs because they’re too rigid and require a certain upright posture but in this chair I can sit comfortably and swing back and forth easily. Since receiving it a few days ago, I’ve spent most of my time in this chair. ... show more

  • Very comfortable and fun to rock.
Color: Sedona/Smoke
Getting out is not easy. Its a contortion to reach the side bars to push out. But im sure it will get easier in time. It’s probably the most comfortable camp chair ive tried and that is a huge number.

  • Stores easily and very sturdy
Color: Sedona/Smoke
Love the chair overall. Great as a carry chair to sporting events and lawn events where space is not an issue. Comfortable but can get uncomfortable for the back of short legs that may hang down from the elevated seat. Some things we don’t like is the complexity to assemble and disassembling to get it back into the carrying bag. Hard to believe it all came out of the small carrying bag when you’re trying to put it back in. It’s also very wide and it takes some space once it’s stood up. Not a quick snap together and sitting type of thing and two of them assembled will take the space of almost three folding chairs. ... show more

  • Very impressed
Color: Graphite/Smoke
Very impressed with this chair. The only suggestion is I wish that they would develop a small foot stool to go with it (especially for the price). The foot stool really is necessary in order to fully take advantage of the reclining feature that the stargaze boasts. I was able to find one that works quite well with the chair and is still compact enough to be stored inside of the storage bag along with the chair. ... show more

  • Must Buy
Color: Sedona/Smoke
This is a fantastic chair that can be used anywhere. Easy up easy down. Very comfortable! The only complaint (because I also have a new version) is the mesh fabric is itchy in the old style

  • Honest Review
Color: Twilight/Smoke
This is a 5 star chair, I put 4 because I hate the bag it comes in, it’s too small. Anyone who says the Costco version is just as good is simply wrong. I took mine to a camp out with several people who had the Costco version. It’s too high, weighs more, doesn’t set up or break down as easy and is not as comfortable. Maybe the price of the chair doesn’t justify it against the Costco, for me it does. I got mine on sale at Amazon and feel like it was worth every penny. Expensive things with cheaper options are always going to have their detractors. You get what you pay for. ... show more
