  • Wow...this is much nicer than I expected
Style: ST-NW-7000
I recently picked up a Rode shotgun mic and while a shock mount on my camera is sufficient for most of the projects I do, there are some occasions (i.e. field recordings, short narrative films) where a boom really comes in handy. I knew that I would likely only be shooting with a boom 2-3 times a year, so I didn't want to pay hundreds for a boom pole, but I also didn't want something flimsy or noisy. I didn't think I'd find anything that met my needs under $100, and I was skeptical about this one when I saw it was under $50. Honestly, the only reason I bought it was because I've been extremely happy with other Neewer products I've purchased (especially my dual dimmable/full color spectrum LED light kit, which is INCREDIBLE for the cost). My expectations were exceeded as soon as I took the pole out of the box. It's definitely "all there", much more metal than plastic, and it didn't feel like a toy. While it was solid, it wasn't "heavy", and really well weight-balanced. The extension locks are high-quality, and it includes three nice velcro straps for locking down your XLR cable. There are upper and lower padded hand grips that, while not incredibly comfortable, I don't see being an issue after a couple hours of use. I only have a few hours of time with this pole (mostly shooting field recordings), but I've experienced no unwanted noises caused by the pole, and it has worked well in a number of indoor and outdoor environments, from fully closed down to full extension. Great job Neewer--keep it up! ... show more

  • The best boom pole under $100
Style: MS-300C
For a pole under $100, I don't think it gets any better. Compared to the other options in its price range, this is built better and made with better materials. It's simple, lightweight, and easy to operate. I've been using this with my S-Mic 2 and Rycote Lyre shock mount and it's been very reliable so far. ... show more

  • Good carbon fiber boom pole
Style: MS-300C
For the price the Neewer Boom pole is great. It isn’t very heavy so it can easily be held for longer shots. The included strap really helps reduce fatigue. It extends to a good distance. This boom pole does not have an internal XLR cable, however it does include several velcro ties to keep your cable under control. I’m not a big fan of the threading and included adapters. They seem to come loose at the worst times. I fixed the issue by adding a cheap rubber washer. ... show more

  • Sturdy, even when abused.
Style: ST-NW-7000
I was tempted to unscrew my sound guy's head when I saw him using this thing like a walking stick on set, but it held up well and still gets the job done. Sure there's fancier boom poles out there, but you don't need that, you want a boom pole that's cheap, reliable, and can reach the moon if you asked it to. Adjusts out to distances that will make your sound guy wish he worked out more, especially when you threaten to throw hands over how he's holding it, and the adjustment thingies are nice and tight, holding everything firmly, even when your noodle arm sound guy uses it. The head also supports your common shock mounts and all that jazz. Real nice and doesn't transfer a lot of sound up the pole. ... show more

  • very light, worth the price
Style: MS-300CB
It is a very sturdy product. The carbon fiber is remarkably lightweight. With the strap included, it feels like it could be held all day. If you have a project like a convention where a lot of interviews will happen and somebody has to hold a mic on the end of this thing for a few hours, this would be the perfect choice. ... show more

  • Easy to use and handle, even on busy sets.
Style: ST-NW-7000
Much more than I expected. It's made well and of sturdy material. Telescoping and retracting the mic and blimp is effortless. I love the cable management straps, too. As for the full weight (Shotgun Mic, Blimp housing, "Dead Cat", the 25 foot cable and the boom) its manageable on set.... at least for standard takes. ... show more
