The cars are made nice, and the game has good features. There is only one issue in the game. But it is very small. The issue is the car radio is only set to 15 or so spanish rap songs on a loop. After the loop plays a few times, it is just irritating. Written by teenage son.

  • Bring the Heat
Platform For Display: PlayStation 4 Edition: Standard
I'm sorry to say that after playing the new NFS Heat for a longer period of time, I have deducted one star from my review. The problem is that the more I play, the less I seem to be able to keep up with my AI competitors; in most good racing games, the opposite is true. So I have had to turn down the difficulty from medium (the default setting) to easy. And then it's too easy -- I keep coming in first, and I don't deserve to -- I'm not worthy! I think the cars' handling could be better also. I'm having a hard time dialing in the right amount of drift to negotiate tight corners. I had thought handling would get better as I progressed to higher-level cars, but that doesn't seem to be the case. I also find the drift challenges -- of which there are many -- to be a snooze. Drift maniacs may disagree. I can speak only to the single-player mode -- I'm old school, and "Machete don't play online" -- but the gimmick here is you can race at night or day. At night, you race for street cred, which brings you more races, and the cops are on the lookout for rampaging racers. Yes, night brings the series' famous cop chases with choppers, high-speed interceptors, and the works -- whoo hoo! But at day, you race for money -- larger pots -- so you can earn the cash to beef up your ride or buy a new one. And the progression path of unlocked cars is rather strange also. Usually, racing games let you unlock more advanced cars as you progress, but here you get batches of high-end cars mixed with historical oddities, like old Beetles and the like. You can customize your cars up the wazoo, adjusting all types of performance parameters and tricking out the vehicle's appearance to your heart's content. As in most arcade racer career modes, you start out with a humble ride -- though in my case, an historic one, a '65 Mustang -- and work your way up to supercar land farther down the road. Needless to say, virtually anything goes when you race here -- you can smash other cars out of your way, cut corners, destroying everything in your path, and the streets are wide open for your mayhem. In conclusion, fans of arcade racing games will find a lot to like here, but I think the game's difficulty, car handling, and unlock progression all leave room for improvement. ... show more

  • Great game
Platform For Display: PlayStation 4 Edition: Standard
I knew I would love this game from the moment gameplay arrived this year. I love the old school feel, from the huge car selection, to the vast open beautiful world in the day time, to the night underground type racing. Cops are back and better than ever! People complain about how they can't escape them, but complained in 2015 about cops being too easy and now they're on a most wanted level. You cannot be dumb and try to outrun them in a slow car, you need to wait until around Rep 25-30 to go into Heat 4-5 to escape safely. I love the tension while driving at high speed at night in H5 with an alert saying" Rhino Incoming" or seeing a group of Corvettes behind me trying to ram my car. Recently, I bought a ford raptor and tuned it up to make it into a cop smasher, and got my Subaru wrx sti off road to bring the cops in the mountains and have fun with them. Game is a blast to play, the music in the daytime is fun to listen to, but night time music is where its at. Definitely get this game if you like intense cop chases, and fast cars. ... show more

  • A solid game that could have been great
Platform For Display: PlayStation 4 Edition: Standard
I like the way vehicles handle and love the ability to customize. Did not like having multiple currencies as a barrier to progression. Earning Bank by day and Rep by night is an unnecessary differentiation, slows things down for no reason. Plus, the mechanic of losing everything you've earned if you're caught at night is a great idea that is ultimately let down by this two currency system. Overall, this is a solid game with some interesting ideas that could have been great. With tweaks to the progression system and a better soundtrack (I miss you Need for Speed Underground), this could have been a huge hit. If EA were to make rebalancing updates or address these items in a sequel we'd all be better for it. That said, at $30 or less I think you could enjoy it. ... show more
