I purchased the NearStream VM20 Camera, and it has been an excellent addition to my setup. I’m a SDE, primarily use it for video conferencing, delivering online context, and live streaming on YouTube. One of the biggest advantages of the VM20 is its flexible wired connectivity. It offers three wired connection options—HDMI, USB, and RJ45, making it very versatile for different conversation and streaming scenarios. I also appreciate that it supports the RTSP protocol, which can be accessed through NearStream NearSync, providing more professional streaming options. In terms of image quality, the camera performs very well. USB supports up to 4K, while HDMI and RJ45 support 1080p. In all cases, the image is sharp, clean, and professional-looking, which is perfect for lectures and presentations. The VM20 also includes a built-in microphone, which is convenient for quick meetings. In addition, it has an audio input port, allowing me to connect external audio devices such as a dedicated microphone or audio interface—great for higher-quality teaching and recording. Another feature I really appreciate is the included remote control. It allows me to adjust settings, switch views, and control the camera without leaving my desk, which is extremely convenient during lectures, meetings, and live streams. This is especially helpful when I’m broadcasting or presenting, as it helps keep the workflow smooth and professional. We use the VM20 cameras at our University. These are great devices. Excellent video quality, fair price, and simple to use. Packed with features. The built-in microphones are much better than those of other cameras. The best one we tested so far. HDMI and USB for direct connections, and a simple RTSP stream for remote viewing. It can be powered from both POE and USB-C. A MIC in port is a plus if I need to hook up an external MIC or audio devices. When I have questions, their knowledgeable support team is there to help with very quick responses. I am purchasing more for my upcoming projects. ... show more

    • Have backups & Patience.
I have 4 of these cameras (with tripods). They're OK. They keep switching the settings on their own, even when locked. Setting have also changed during mid LIVE stream! The cameras flipped to vertical when I had them locked on horizontal. I had to apologize to my audience, kill the stream & restart it. After resetting the cameras settings, one by one, I lost viewers because of this. The remotes are 3 star at best. If you're not right next to the camera you're trying to adjust by the remote, other cameras will also adjust. Very, very frustrating. I have had to do the above several times during streams recently (since June 2025). Even during a private testing session yesterday (10/18/25), one camera flipped again, showing words on print board backwards again & zooming out. Quality of the camera is decent. I will only purchase PTZ cameras from on out. FYI, I broadcast, stream & commentate sports. No, I don't recommend these cameras as a one man show. Spend the extra money on PTZ cameras. The video quality of this 4K HDMI webcam is great! We use it with a video switcher and primarily for live streaming, and it performs very well. The image is crisp, and the setup is smooth, making it very easy and convenient to use for live productions. We haven't tried the Ethernet option yet, but we're looking forward to exploring that feature in the future. Overall, the experience has been excellent. Customer service was responsive and helpful with our initial setup questions. Highly recommend this camera for anyone doing live streaming or professional video work. ... show more

    • A waste of a good camera because of a poor remote
This was purchased as a remote live stream camera for choir performances from the back of the Sanctuary to project onto screens at the front. The issue with the location is that there is no ability to run cables for either power, connectivity, or control. We reviewed all the videos and this seemed like a perfect solution: (1) good price point, (2) can be powered by a 5V power bank (portability), (3) has an HDMI port which is connected to wireless HDMI extenders, (4) has a wireless remote controller. Everything connected easily and worked well until we tried to use the remote control. During our testing (and also on the videos), we were beside the camera. When we setup for production it became apparent that the wireless remote control, while full of features, had a limited range. The moment we got more than 6 feet away from the camera, the remote and camera started having problems, even if there was a clear line of sight. The response to the remote was jerky. Zooming in and out, even in smooth mode (right side buttons), was sporadic. Panning left and right it would jump from one position to the next. When we set a zoom setting then tried to pan up or down, the zoom setting would change. The end result is we would preset the camera and leave it be. What's the point of having a "PTZ" type of camera when you can't reliably control it? Now the price point seems excessive for what turns out to be a normal webcam with a HDMI port. We had such high expectations for a truly wireless remote streaming camera only to be totally disappointed by the inability to remotely control and use all the features.     • Studio-Level Results Without the Studio Price
I bought the NearStream VM20 as a brand-new content creator, and I’m honestly blown away. The image quality is crystal-clear — the 4K resolution makes my streams look professional instantly. The 40x hybrid zoom is insane for close-ups and product shots without losing detail. The biggest surprise was the audio. The 8 built-in noise-canceling mics make my voice sound clean even with background noise in the house. I plugged it in, selected it in OBS, and was streaming in minutes — zero learning curve.     • Broken out of the box, absolutely useless.
I want to know what influencer put their name on this and shame them publicly coz this camera is a piece of hot garbage! It didn't even last 20 minutes before it lost the green filter, and there's no fixing bad color filters! plus: it's zoomed in about 50% by default and doesn't let you go back to full picture. Either they sent me a broken open box camera, or it's simply hot trash. this thing is the size of a brick, too heavy for prosumer gear. did not install easily, no charging brick, y9ou need to supply your own. How anybody is finding this useable is most likely coz they're being paid. This is an absolute waste. do NOT buy this. ... show more

I'm a video/sound producer with 20 plus years' experience and 2 National Video Awards! I bought this VM20 for a live stream production and I am very pleased with the product and the picture it produces. I have other streaming cameras but none that produce this level of detail. The on-camera sound is very good for gathering audio from people asking questions at my teaching seminars. I would buy this again if I needed a second one! ... show more
