Description

NBA 2K142K’s Visual Concepts studio, the team behind NBA2K14, has seen it all in the video game world. Founded in 1988, the team has experienced plenty of new gaming system launches over the years. But never one like the launch of PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Re-energized by the new systems’ technology, the seasoned team at VC has developed a completely new experience for next-gen NBA 2K14, featuring re-built game modes, a brand-new gameplay engine, and stunning graphics. Next-Gen VisualsTo truly take the game to the next level, to nail the thousands of interconnected details that create a next generation visual experience, artists had to change the way they work, starting with the materials that make up the NBA 2K environment: rubber, plastic, metal, and vinyl. In the past, artists would individually recreate each item, but now next-gen technology enables the team to build a library of materials with the correct index of refraction, reflection amount, and so forth. Everything in- game, from the scorer’s table and backboards, to human elements such as skin texture and sweat, was re-created to ensure the whole package lives up to next-gen realism.View largerEco-Motion EngineWith Eco-Motion, the NBA experience comes to life in new ways: Crowd reactions, atmosphere, coaching strategies, real player voices, and, most of all, the emotion of the game. Player animations are dynamic, and evolve on the fly as you play. Player personalities and emotions factor into the game as well, affecting how players perform and behave on the court.View largerNBA TodayNBA Today is a brand-new feature for next-gen NBA 2K14. Stats, videos, and scores, tied to the real NBA all-new ways. The focal point of NBA Today is the Daily Zap, featuring video from the previous day’s games delivered directly to your PS4 or Xbox One daily from NBA.com. Accompanying the Daily Zap, gamers can view the latest standings, scores, and top performers. The very same data used to adjust rosters using the new Dynamic Living Rosters system, all viewable 24 hours a day in NBA Today.View largerMyGMMyGM is a complete re-imagination of what a franchise mode should be, built exclusively for the next-gen consoles. Everything you say and do shapes the world around you as you oversee an entire organization, right down to the details of staffing, managing player expectations, game pricing, team facilities, and more. The decisions you make have ripple effects throughout the organization, both on and off the court. The Conversation Engine will remember everything you say, so each decision is vital to your success in both the short and long term.View largerMyTEAMMyTEAM returns in a new format. Earn, collect and build your ideal lineups to compete in tournaments, challenge online users in Road to the Playoffs, or take on actual NBA teams in the new Domination mode.View largerMyCAREERLive your career not only on the court but off the court too, with an all-new, player- driven narrative experience. There is a full cast of characters, endorsements from companies like adidas, Nike, and Gatorade, and branching-path storylines. Over 40 hours of gameplay await you in the first year alone. New to MyCAREER, when your MyPlayer needs a break from the grind of the NBA season, press conferences and commercial shoots, there’s a place you can go to play some pickup games with 100 of your closest friends.

  • seriously breathtaking and deep game/simulation
Platform For Display: PlayStation 4
I've played the 2K series on and off, I"m mostly a Madden guy but this game has made me forget about football entirely for the time being. The career mode is addictive and building up your character from a snotty (or humble) rookie to a legit triple threat superstar has to be one of the greatest gaming feelings I've had in a long time. Love it when your character comes into his own and your home crowd starts to chant "MVP, MVP". Haven't played much online but plenty of four player with buddies. 91 Bulls vs Kobe/Shaq lakers is great. ... show more

  • Very happy nephew...
Platform For Display: PlayStation 4
My nephew was getting the new PS4 for Christmas and his mom suggested I pick up this game he had been talking about forever. Needless to say he spent most of his holiday off school in front of the TV. I'm not too savvy with today's games (still a pro at Ms. PacMan) but the graphics on this game are amazing. The arena details and even the commentators provide such a realistic touch. But again, I'm from old school video games, so this to me was super cool. And aside from not actually being at a real NBA game, I had the best seat in the house on the couch next to my nephew. Enjoy! ... show more

  • This is the last version of 2k without mandatory VC in MyCareer
Platform For Display: PlayStation 4
Picked this up for the PS4 because I'm sick and tired of the constant micro-transaction gameplay choking. Everything you do in the games nowadays is tied to VC and it takes forever to upgrade your player without paying more real cash on top of the 70$ you already payed. I play in offline mode where you get SP to level up stats instead of VC. Very fun. And funnily enough if you compare it to the latest version you can clearly see its the same game with slight upgrades over time. Good enough for me. I like LeBron on the heat anyways. ... show more

  • The Next Gen Choice for BasketBall
Platform For Display: PlayStation 4
I've been a NBA 2k player since it blew my mind back on the Dreamcast. Back then, never did I play a basketball game that looked quite like it. Back in those days, it was as real as real got. And they never let that aspect of the game go. So it's only right that it got better when it made it's transition to the PS3/360 era. It was always the highlight of the game. They added animation that matched it's counter part. Not many games did this. You didn't see patent shots that you see the real players do in real life. They added all the small elements to make you feel like you're really watching an NBA game broadcasting live. And this next gen version is no different. The players are much more alive then ever before. They react and smile and snarl. I had two players get into a nice verbal exchange after a foul. Not sure what they were saying but I'm sure somebody's mama got dissed. Some player are down right scary close to the real thing. Others aren't....maybe they miss the facial digitation session. I have the PS3 version, and up until I got the PS4 version, I thought it was a beautiful looking sports game. It was pretty damn close to looking real. Then I put in the PS4 version and WOW! And once you do a side by side, which I did...the PS3 version just doesn't cut it anymore. My eyes have seen what true HD looks like and it's hard to go back. At least for me it is. But let's put aside the beautiful, crisp graphic and focus on what makes playing a basketball game fun: the gameplay. Graphics will get you in the door but the gameplay will keep you inside. If you played the PS3 version then there really isn't much new as far as controls go. The guys might move maybe a bit better (or worst) but it still has it's flaws in some areas. The players move fluid but still get tighted up when trying to cut between defenders. Ray Allen knows how to slip and slide through defenders as he finds his way to a corner for a big three. Here, you can get tangled up, not as bad as 2k13 though. On defense, your players can get shaken off pretty easy if you're controlling them. They don't seem to have quick reactions and can get left in the dust if you try to do too much. It's almost better not to guard to tightly. Given the space, you defend better because the offensive player usually run into you, trying to get to the hoop. But then they can also pull up for a jumper and you need to be on your toes to at least put a hand in the face. This balancing act can frustrate a new comer or a non patient player. But once you start getting that experience and know how to counteract these flaws, you'll find yourself enjoying a nice game of simulated b-ball. No arcade feel here, though I'm sure if you adjust a couple of sliders and difficulty level, you'll be able to get that feel if that's what you prefer. I put in quite a few games under my belt and I'm getting use to how things flow. Once you know what to expect, it make dealing with things a bit better. Hopefully future games tighten up the controls. The game modes are not as robust as the PS3 counterpart. You have your basic quick matches, a GM mode (which I haven't tried out but can get all the info you need on it on the 2k website). My Career which I spend a majority of my time playing. The Park which is pretty much an online pick up game. Just like in real life, you hit a park which just happens to be a basketball haven of ballers. I don't play much online anything so I haven't tried this mode yet but I will test it out once I develope my player more into a worthy pick up. I haven't seen a mode for your standard league season play though I believe it might be tied into My GM mode. I'll update this once I dive into the menu setting a bit more. Why don't I know more about the modes....we'll it's all MY CAREER mode's fault. Since it was first introduced as MY PLAYER, I've been hooked. It's was rough in it's introduction year but it's made strides. And though the last few years felt exactly the same as the previous, on the PS4, it's totally different. Now you got a storyline you follow. I'm still pretty young into my season (damn work, bills and family getting in the way) but so far I've enjoyed this version way more than ever before. You start off creating your character. This time around, you can't get super detailed as you could in the PS3 version. You pick a face out of many, and you give them a hair style and facial hair, change your eyes and hair color. Add some tats if you like....and your done. No more tweaking faces for hours on end...which I miss. I like my player looking as much as me as I can. But I made due. You kick off the story by getting an invite to the pre-draft scouting game...same as before...but this time you got yourself a rival. Without spoiling the fun...you get to chose how you react to this guy throughout the game. The game will put you in situations that can help or hurt how people view you. You're choices will directly effect your team chemistry, the way local fans and the GM view you and your overall fans. It's up to you if you want to be a humble player or a cocky player. The interviews after the game are not frequent at all unlike the previous games. It only takes place after something happens, usually through your interactions and if you had a good game where you set a personal record. It sucks that some of the interactions repeat it self so much already and I haven't even made it to the All-Star break. There's also times where the game just totally breaks the immersion. For instance, you'll have a player who will haze you...nothing serious and you can chose if you accept it or not. But in my version, I was having a conversation with this player and then in the background, I see him, in different gear. Unless he has a twin he likes to hang out with, it totally ruined the scene for me. Also, even thought they got some players real voice recorded during half time and end of game interviews, none of them talk when you're interacting with them. They just speak with their minds and you have the ability to read it. But the interaction with LeBron James is fully voiced. I got use to this quickly though. Not like you interact with them after every game. And as fun as the story is I'm here to play basketball. I'm hoping if they go with this mode again, they'll fix these issues. There's so much more I haven't seen yet and excited to experience this year which has made my other games take a back seat. I always loved this series and this one, with it's minor flaws, is the best one available in my opinion. There's still a few bugs that I wish would go away...even with a new engine, it still pops it's head up like the shorts getting flipped inside out. You'd think they would have solved this issue. But as long as the one bug that has killed my experience on 2k13 and also popped up on 2k14 (PS3) from time to time doesn't show up, I'll be one happy guy. What's that bug you ask....the one that freezes the game. For me, and it happened every single time on 2k13, when you try to skip the screen where it shows the up coming schedule of a team. Usually it'll happen in the 3rd or 4th quarter. When ever I pressed x to take it off the screen to soon, it was an automatic frozen system. I tried to just not press anything but every so often when I'm trying to get through the games, I'd do it and it freezes. It did it to me once on 2k14 on the PS3. I haven't had that issue on the PS4. All that aside, if you enjoyed 2K in the past and you happen to have a PS4 just laying around, you'd have fun with this version. If you're a basketball fan, you really have no choice. I know there's another game you can choose but you're better off renting the two and making the easy choice. Don't spend your hard earn money on a game that looks like it should had been put on a PS2 game. The gameplay couldn't save that game. This is next gen and this game is as next gen as they come. ... show more

  • One step forward, a jump backwards.
Platform For Display: PlayStation 4
NBA 2K14. There is a lot to say about this game, first let me start off by saying that it looks absolutely amazing and feels more fluid than the previous NBA 2K games. However, for all it's good looks it is overshadowed by the fact that the game can get annoying and somewhat frustrating at times. The game's bread and butter game mode: My Career, has undergone significant changes. The mode now has these cheesy, tacky, and horribly written cut scenes where your player will be talking throughout the game to GM's, coaches, other players, your agent, and the god awful and lame idea of a rival going by the name of Jackson Ellis. Past that of course, we now come to what may annoy one when playing My Career. For one that cutscenes are brutally cheesy and for me very painful to watch as I found myself smashing the X button on my controller to try and skip it. Next, the scripted, total outright BS the game throws at you during your beginning moments as an NBA player. 2K logic, "hey so and so, we're down by 20, get us to within 5 points", ok I'll try, well I can't because they just take me out the game even if I manage to bring the lead down to 10 as soon as I'm subbed back in the lead is right back to where it was. Next, the god awful teammates you will have, I found myself just down right amazed how easily the opposing team was scoring against my teammates, they were dropping around 60-75 points (IN THE PAINT). The list goes on and on but if you haven't managed to destroy your copy of NBA 2K14 by then, then it gets a little less frustrating. Next up, 2K's micro transactions that are good for nothing except buying your player clothes and packs in My Team. 2K even misleads you buy putting the Purchase VC as part of the My Player Nav Menu so I thought why not, let me make my player better so I won't have to deal with the nonsense the game throws at you. WRONG. I was just absolutely bamboozled at the fact that I had wasted some of my money on the intention of trying to make my player better only to find out that it could only go to clothes and packs. But anyway, the game all around is pretty decent, it plays somewhat smoothly. I'm not saying you should or shouldn't buy this game, but if you do, you're gonna have to deal with 2K's nonsense for a while. Good Day. ... show more
