I am starting to see clear visible results after applying a very small amount (1-2 drops) once or twice daily for 2 weeks in fading sun spots, as well as hyperpigmentation from new and old scrape wounds (1 month and 1 year old). My whole face looks brighter, too. The product is lightweight and does not leave behind any noticeable residue on the skin unless too much product is applied. It is non-irritating for me. I am very pleased with it. Some reviewers have described clumps in the product that they thought were fungal or bacterial growth. I noticed some of that, too, when I first opened the bottle. However, the package does say that the product needs to be shaken before use and stored at room temperature, because solids can form if the product gets too cold. I assumed that explained the clumps in my bottle, which was delivered on a cool fall day. I shook the bottle well and let it warm to room temperature, and the clumps disappeared and never came back. Literally, WOW. PERIOD. If you need a serum to lighten dark spots/age spots/scars/discoloration, GET THIS!!!! I use a few drops of this at night a handful of times a week as I suffer from a bad scar and some dark spots/ discoloration on my face. I was involved in a scooter accident about 2 months ago leaving with a scar on my face and since using this the discoloration has easily been reduced by at least 85% and keeps getting better each week. I used to look in the mirror and all I could see was discoloration/Melasma from that pesky scar and now when I peer into the glass, all I see are the incredible results of this serum. My complexion is finally ONE even and BRIGHT tone and my skin looks and feels just as radiant as it did when I was younger. As for the smell, the liquorish root is actually a pleasant smell, and not overpowering at all. Especially after using a moisturizer on top! My skin did get a little sensitive around my nose where I didn't need it after too much, so just "err on the side of caution" as over use can lead to flaky and irritated skin. I think it's best to apply to the problem areas as it is effective there the most. The smell is highly favorable, and the product last a long time as a little goes a long way!!     • Extremely effective but lacks quality control

The product itself is highly effective. I've been using it for about a year now and have seen steady improvements in hyperpigmentation. No, it is not completely gone but that is an unrealistic expectation to have for topical depigmenting products. Topicals work best at managing and reducing the recurrence of hyperpigmentation. Continued usage with sun protection is key to success. However, with the multiple repurchased I have made the quality seems to vary quite a bit between batches. Sometimes it is a light brown-opaque color and other times it is a dark gold-brown color. I assume it is because of variance in the licorice extract used, but that leads me to question the concentration of active ingredients within the licorice. A standardized and stated extract of the active ingredients in the licorice (ei licochalcone, glycyrrhizic acid) would be useful rather than taking their word for it that they are present in sufficient concentration. ... show more

Appreciate sustainable recyclable plastic-free packaging box and heavy glass bottle! Product feels like aloe gel, spreads very well, absorbed fast, dry finish. Fragrance free. In first three applications, had Slight sting under eyes. Applied every other day. After two weeks, face appeared less “tired”, more even tone. After 3 weeks, the newest forehead hyperpigmentation has faded. Caused some acne to break out on chin, a clay mask cleared it up. After 4 weeks overall appearance is brighter, even and definitely less tired. But target dark spots are unchanged. After six weeks, hyperpigmentation had faded 20% Skin overall has evened in tone. However, all dark marks are now clearly visible. Skin looks fresher and younger by about 30%. Product does not fade skin overall, it evens tone and prevents further tanning while breaking up newest dark patches. ... show more

    • Did not use as there looked like MOLD growing in the dropper!

The first time I removed the dropper to use the serum, there looked like mold growing in the dropper, much like photos in other reviews. I immediately did a return. I bought the item from a local store thinking perhaps what was being online was old. What I purchased in store had an updated pump rather than the dropper, which I like much better. AND, the tube for the pump was clear without any lumpiness or mold. I am hopeful it works! ... show more
