After washing, dry with a clean towel & allow the piece to fully air dry. Once dry, apply some wax directly onto the wood (start with a little & add more as needed; any excess gets wiped away). A clean cotton cloth works best, but you can also use a paper towel or something similar - you can even use your hands (they'll get moisturized, too!). Buff the wax into the wood as you go, evenly spreading it throughout the entire piece. After you've applied the desired amount, let the wax soak into the wood for an hour or two. When you're ready, buff the piece again with another clean, dry cloth to remove any excess.
