I put these in a half gallon of vodka that I had purchased but realized I had no interest in drinking. It has been extracting for six months. It is my first time buying vanilla beans, but the quality seems fantastic to my untrained eye. The price for quantity is great. Very dry and brittle when received. Not what the company promised and completely unusable. Tried to return but they don't allow a refund at all. Wish I could give less than one star.

I jumped on the homemade vanilla train this holiday season. At first I was disappointed in the dryness of the beans when they arrived. They are not all the same size either with quite a few tiny ones in the count. Being so shriveled they were difficult to slice open. However they looked really didn’t matter as they did the trick! I used an InstaPot recipe to cut curing time and added a few beans cut in half to each 4 oz bottle and topped them off with cheap vodka. The recipe called for heating them 35 minutes and letting them depressurize. I filled 15 bottles and had enough left for a 32oz decanter of vanilla and the rest of the beans for myself. The beans soaked up quite a bit of the booze so I topped the bottles off with the decanter vanilla and a couple more half beans and I give them a good shake weekly. I can see some “caviar”, (the seeds from the sliced beans) floating in each bottle and know they are enriching the flavor of the vanilla splendidly. Oddly, for at least 3 weeks they smelled like playdoh instead of anything resembling sweet vanilla! I began to question the results AND money and time spent on this effort!! Do not give up!!! Be patient and after 4 weeks using the InstaPot recipe you will have SUCCESS! Shaking and steeping, the mixture finally smells like the aroma of sweet vanilla, not vanilla vodka either! I assume the flavor and aroma will only get better with age and as I use it up, I am confident topping off with more vodka will keep me in vanilla for a very long time. Plus the added bonus of 15 sweet little gifts to share!
