  • Super Cool Volcano
Size: One Size
We haven’t done the experiment part yet, but we used the mold to create the volcano and it turned out perfectly! It was super easy to do and fun for my five year old! Will report back if anything goes wrong with the experiment, but so far this was an awesome purchase!

  • It served its purpose well!
Size: One Size
My daughter, a schoolteacher, kindergarten, used that volcano project for a science project for her students. She said it went well for the students and she said it was perfect as a teaching and learning experiment. THUMBS UP!!!

  • Fun but...
Size: One Size
I give this five stars, because it is a lot of fun, but there are some things you should be aware of. You will have to help your kid with this project. This is not something that young kids can do independently. The first of which is the kit comes with powdered plaster and a mold and you have to make the volcano so it is time consuming and there is a little bit of a mess Factor. Additionally, once you've made the mold and painted it, and you're ready to set off your volcano, the volcano lava does stain. Stain. We did our eruption in the street in front of our house and it looked like a small animal had been run over because there was a big red stain in the asphalt. It was there for a couple months already before it finally faded away. Last thing you should know is when you do your eruption, the lava will cause the paint to run a little and fade a lot. Other than that, it's exactly like you would imagine. It was a lot of fun for the kids, it comes with a little information booklet thing that tells you all about volcanoes. So well the mold is setting or the paint is drying. You have some reading material to get them hyped up about the big volcano eruption. As long as you're aware of those things and know what you're getting into, I would definitely recommend this item. ... show more

  • A good gift idea

This was a gift for our grandson. It was a little over his head, so the parents put it together and painted it. But it was fun when it

  • Another explosive hit with the grandkids
Size: One Size
Got this for my grandkids along with another science kit, and this one was just as big of a hit. They were so excited to make the volcano erupt, and it didn’t disappoint—plenty of fizz, fun, and messy excitement. It was easy enough for them to set up with just a little guidance, and the whole experience had them completely engaged. They’ve really gotten into these hands-on science kits, and this one kept the momentum going. They’re already asking for more like it, which says a lot. If your kids or grandkids are into anything that bubbles, explodes, or makes a mess while teaching them something cool, this is definitely one to grab. ... show more

  • Takes some work, messy but fun. Reusable.
Size: One Size
This was fun. Very old school with Plaster of Paris. After it set (45 mins), I baked it for 2 hours at 200F to dry it before painting. Both grandparents and two grandkids (4 and 10) enjoyed this project. We look forward to more eruptions. The mold is reusable if you purchase more plaster (410g or 14.6oz plus 1 cup water. Not nearly enough black paint, the vial seemed half full. The paints are just tempera. You can’t buy extra eruption packs, tho. The kit's eruption powder is a mixture of sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) and citric acid, you add water. But - The instructions with the kit tell how you can easily replicate the eruption with baking soda and white vinegar or lemon juice. Add a few drops of red food coloring and some dish soap for a more realistic "lava" effect and better foam. Or try a single Mentos candy with some added soda pop. That can get very messy and sticky, unless you use diet soda. Try that outside, tho. Have fun! ... show more

  • How is the joy to see your son making is own volcano and enjoying it
Size: One Size
The National Geographic Ultimate Volcano Kit has been a fantastic educational experience for my son and me! We had so much fun learning about volcanoes while creating our very own erupting volcanoes at home. This kit is a perfect combination of science and fun. It includes everything you need to create an erupting volcano, which helped my children understand how volcanoes work in a really engaging way. The instructions are clear, and the process is easy to follow, even for younger kids. Quality Materials: The materials included (like plaster, baking soda, and a safe, non-toxic volcano mold) are high-quality and make the entire experiment feel like a mini science project. The volcano is sturdy and can withstand multiple eruptions. Educational Content: The kit includes a small booklet with fun facts about volcanoes, how they form, and how eruptions occur. It’s educational without being too complicated, and my kids loved learning about real-life volcanoes. ... show more

  • Educational and Fun, but Be Prepared for a Mess!
Size: One Size
I bought the National Geographic Volcano Making Kit for my daughter, and she absolutely loved it! The instructions were clear, and it was exciting to watch her engage with the science behind volcanic eruptions. The kit is both fun and educational, making it a great choice for kids who enjoy hands-on activities. That said, be sure to put the volcano on a baking sheet or other surface that’s easy to clean. The eruption process can get a little messy, with colored “lava” spilling over the sides. We didn’t think of this initially and had a bit of a cleanup on our hands. Lesson learned! Overall, I highly recommend this kit for kids—it’s a fantastic way to spark curiosity about science and geology. Just plan ahead for the mess, and you’ll have a blast! ... show more
